Thank you, Monica, for the wonderful weekend at Open Acres! My husband, children and I have enjoyed the beautiful Lodge for 3 years now and love it. The suites are very nicely appointed with lots of space, kitchenettes, and clean linens - perfect for families! (My sister and her family and my parents also joined us. Now that it has become a tradition, we all look forward to our "time up north" every year.) We especially like having the Gathering Lodge for meals, games, and time together by the fire. (With children it is also nice to be able to get back to the separate suite for quiet time or naps. Lots of privacy.) The kitchen in the Gathering Lodge has EVERYTHING you would need and it is such a treat to be able to arrive with a bag of groceries and not have to eat out. Finally, I have to mention that the Lodge is located in a clearing within the Manistee National Forest - the drive to and from is glorious. A perfect spot. We come to Open Acres to ski at Caberfae Peaks, snowshoe, and winter hike. Before finding the Lodge, we stayed in a variety of places which were far inferior and did not provide the flexibility of preparing our own meals or spending time together as a group. And, we can bring our dog - Perfection! It was a pleasure working with Monica, as always, and we highly recommend Open Acres to anyone looking for a well maintained and beautiful retreat.

Great Family lodging! Very roomy and cozy too. Just be careful of freezing ice/snow; no salt for the steps and I am still healing! Overall; great family/friend house!

I wish you mentioned that it was as bad as you stated here the couple of times that we spoke that weekend; I would have made certain that someone would have gotten you ice-melt. I am also sorry that the salt I did have there did not make it to the porch from the pole barn, normally there is a bag accessible when weather gets bad. Unfortunately the cleaning and preparations were done before the snow hit. Anytime a guest needs something I always have people accessible within reason to make certain things are taken care of.

Awesome Place to stay

This place was amazing, we have a huge family and it was so big that we all had seperate sleeping areas and a huge meeting room. It was very very close to the ski resort. We had an excellent time. I would definetely go back there even in the summer...

Nice getaway

We stayed for 2 nights over and found the lodge to be perfect for a weekend get away to ski in Northern Michigan. Close enough to the slopes yet in a peaceful setting.

Great place for a family reunion

For the past eight years our family has come to Open Acres Lodge for our family Christmas. We love that the two families with children can have their own suite. We all eat together in the common area/gathering room. And that room is more than big enough for some to play fussball, some to play a board game, some to read by the fireplace, some to watch TV.... well I think you get the idea. The children enjoy sledding on the hill behind the lodge and the adults like to cross country ski. We hope to continue this annual outing.

The perfect place for large groups!!!

Wow!! The pictures do not do it justice. I have owned a cottage in Cadillac my entire life. We recently sold it and wanted to continue our annual golf trip at McGuires. We usually have 12-16 guys that stay at my cottage. Trying to find a place to accomodate all our guys and not pay alot of money was very hard. The lodge was perfect!!! Its set back in a field and allowed us to stay out all night playing games and having fires. The 3 separate suites made it ideal for the guys who wanted to get to bed early. The gathering room was great for cooking all our meals and sat us all comfortably. I have recently booked out 2nd trip there and may be going in May as well. This place is an absolute hidden gem. The service is great! Monica really makes you feel like family! I would recommend this place to anybody and everybody!!

A truly awesome place that works great for all of your needs. A beautiful location, scenic views and quite surroundings, lots of room for all sorts of outside activities. Open Acres is perfect for our group, three separate suites and the main lodge make for lots of room for inside events, and if people want to stay up late, others can get some sleep without being impacted. Always clean accommodations, excellent heat and A/C in the suites, and Monica has never easy to work with. This will be our 6th year coming to Open Acres!

You just have to love auto-correct with words! I am sure you meant to say that I am very easy to work with otherwise I am sure you wouldn't have returned for 6 years in a row! My husband and I like to take the children skiing at Caberfae every winter and we've been looking for a nice place to stay. Open Acres Lodge offered everything we could have hoped for and so much more. Monica made the arrangements so easy and we were thrilled by the spacious, well-appointed, and very clean accommodations. The loft with its four beds was ideal for our children and the kitchen area made it possible to enjoy family meals without the hassle and expense of restaurant dining. My sister and her family stayed in the suite next door and a wonderful time was had by all. Thank you so much! We look forward to staying at Open Acres Lodge again next year.

We had a great time. We were up there for a x-country ski week-end and there are a lot of trails in the area. The suite was larger than it looked in the pictures, very clean and it had everything we could possibly need. The gathering lodge is well worth the extra fee and very cozy. We saw a lot of deer on the drive into the lodge - drive carefully!!!

We had an awesome time staying at the lodge. The weather was beautiful and the Salmon fishing was great! It was a perfect getaway and the accomodations were just like home. We are already planning our next weekend:)

We had a truly wonderful time at the Open Acres Lodge. We were celebrating our parents 60th anniversary and had 17 people from 3 months of age to 82 years there together. We were able to meet together and cook in the lodge, we slept well, ate outdoors and had a campfire for singing and s'mores in front of the lodge. The lodge is well kept and well stocked and very clean and comfortable. The owner and caretaker are wonderful to work with. We had fun canoeing on the Pine River, swimming at Lake Mitchell and had an elegant delicious meal at Hermann's European Cafe in Cadillac. A very positive experience. THANK YOU from all of us. Irene

I just wanted to say thank you for helping us make our retreat a great one. We had a blast and the Lord really blessed our time together. In fact we already have guys wanting to sign up for next year's retreat. We have unanimously decided to return next year to Open Acres and I will be contacting you some time in Nov to start the ball rolling. Again thank you for everything, the cabin was awesome. It is a very nice place to stay. Clean, comfortable, quiet. Monica worked with us to change the date that we stayed due to a cancellation and made it worth our while. Would highly recommend staying here.

Open Acres is truly a wonderful place. The pictures do not do it justice. We stayed in one of the loft suites with another couple and had a blast. We came up for the Hoxeyville Music Festival (a great 2 day outdoor music fest with phenomenal talent) and kayaking on the Pine River. We enjoyed hiking on the Open Acre trail, having a bonfire and just sitting in the rocking chairs on the beautiful long pourch. This is a great romantic escape for a couple, fun adventure for a family or a comfy place for friends to meet. We found it pretty funny that with Ron White (very popular comedian from Texas) stayed at Open Acres just a few months ago.

My family rented the entire lodge for a week to celebrate my parents 50th anniversary. Having the seperate suites was nice as I have small children that needed quiet to go to sleep-each family could be by themselves, yet get together for meals in the gathering lodge. The yard is also large enough to play volleyball or any other sport you want to play. Very clean as well-We all had a blast and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

This was the most beautiful, private, weekend getaway lodge that I have stayed at. There was so much space and none of the city noise. The only things that we heard were the animals go bump in the night. The view from the porch was spectacular, and not to mention the rooms as well are gorgeous with all the pine. One thing I would recommend is whatever you think you need to bring from home, DON'T! They have everything there that would complete the trip. From bedding, extra towels, paper towels, to kitchen utensils and a bbq. The Sunrise and sunsets were amazing and the Pine River was a blast. I can't wait till there is a break in my schedule and we can go up again. I highly reccommend this lodge to anyone from a party of 2 to 27. Its worth every second of the trip. Open Acres Lodge is a wonderful place to get away. The unique set up of the lodge allows for great group gatherings yet also provides plenty of privacy if needed. Very beautiful too! We'll be back for sure.

The lodge exceeded my expectations. Beautiful, clean, great location. I would definitely stay here again. Cell phones did not work, but not a big deal. Monica was very friendly and accommodating. Bring firewood.

A great place to stay. Lots to do and in the middle of alot of places. Hoping to go again next year to see everything. Interior is realy nice. We had a blast. Also the Malvich's are nice, friendly and helpful nice people to meet.
