Freeland house description

Dogs welcome! 1.5 hrs from downtown Seattle, 15 minutes from Clinton Ferry. Rates vary seasonally and with holidays, please check listing.
Baby Beach is a private and quiet no-bank beach house, located steps from water, with a vivid and relaxing water view. Eagles soar overhead while you cozy up to the wood burning stove on a comfy sectional couch with a grand view of the water. Clamming, fishing, whale watching are all nearby. We call it Baby Beach since it is the perfect place for kids and dogs to play safely, and has a quiet innocence and old Whidbey charm.

The deck is the ideal place to read, talk, and relax in wicker lawn furniture as you view passing wildlife; deer, rabbits, seals, eagles, hummingbirds, and sea otters regularly grace our shores. Watch them from our comfortable couch next to the wood stove with a piano, books, videos and music to share, plus a fully stocked kitchen- just add food! Coffee maker, toaster, microwave, place settings for 15, glassware, ceramic dishes, table cloths, place mats, utensils, sandwich grill, waffle maker, and blender. Grill fish or toast marshmallows on the fire pit in the garden or sip coffee on our rocking chairs on the porch overlooking the water. Town is a 10 minute walk away and has a grocery store with fabulous deli, organic foods, and bakery... antique shops, restaurants, bars, and bookstores nearby and a public park with playground and a boat dock, plus famous Double Bluff beach is 5 minutes away. You won't hear a whisper of traffic as you get away from daily life at our sanctuary.

Besides the kitchen, dining area, and living room, we have two charming bedrooms, one with a queen bed and another with two queen beds.
A recent review gives a great feel for our details...
'I have been a vacation house visitor for about 25 years and this beautiful Whidbey island home is BY FAR the most enchanting and rejuvenating place I've ever been. So many details are attended to which makes the house seem warm and 'lived-in' and lends to the immediate feeling upon arriving that you have just come home. After unpacking and finding a comfortable place to sit, breathe and take in the view of the harbor, I could feel the stress drain from my body and mind. We only had 2 nights to be in that serene environment but it had such an impact on all of us that it felt more like a week... now THAT'S getting your money's worth! The home is walking distance (10 minutes) to thrift & antique stores, as well as the grocery store that has an amazing organic section and some of the most lovely seafood you will find in a tiny town, anywhere. We grilled some Copper River salmon and veggies one evening on the bbq provided (bring your favorite charcoal!) and we couldn't wipe the smiles off our faces the entire meal. We also walked up to one of the local restaurants for lunch and had a couple good sandwiches and salads but I would definitely recommend buying food and spending as much time at the beach house as possible because it's much more affordable than eating in town and you really won't want to be anywhere else for long during your stay. Definitely DO set out on a stroll at low tide so you can take in all of the gorgeous rocks & shells that adorn this quiet little beach. The morning sunlight is best and the water is calm because there's not much wind, which can kick up quite a bit off the harbor in the evening time so be sure to bring warm clothes if you're planning an outdoor fire. Although, if you've got a toasty fire going in the wood stove, the sound of the wind and the waves is truly a deeply calming experience not to be missed. The photos on the VRBO.com website are entirely accurate although the modest listing description left us delightfully surprised by all this wonderful beach home had to offer. If you've missed your opportunity to book your time away here this year, I HIGHLY recommend booking now for next year so that you can have the pleasure of staying at one of the most enjoyable vacation stays you'll ever find.'

We had an amazing time on Whidbey with this home as our base. It's so close to the water -- the kids loved being able to run outside onto the beach to collect rocks or shells. And from the huge picture window in the mornings, we watched eagles, several kinds of ducks, a loon trying to swallow a too-big fish, and even two otters. The home itself is dated but comfortable, and very well equipped. There's a playground a few minutes in one direction, and a great grocery store just up the hill. We also enjoyed a few side trips to Double Bluffs Park and Port Townsend.

My friends and I went for a girls weekend away. It was the perfect location with great views, and not too far from the wineries. It has everything you need in the kitchen, bedrooms, and living room. The only reason I'm giving a 4 out of 5 stars is because the place is a little outdated. It reminds me of my nana's house- has everything you need but not much is up to date. It was perfect for what we needed but if you're looking for luxury, this might not be it. If you're looking for a stellar view, this is your place!

This was a wonderful house right on the water in Freeland, WA. Not only is this probably the best location on the whole bay, but the house has everything you need to have a great time. Within walking distance to great stores that have everything you need. We had my in laws and my 16 month old son and we all had an amazing time. the owner was very responsive and generous with their supplies and amenities!

We have had a wonderful stay-your place is cozy and has all the warm amenities including books, games, a piano, kayaks --too many things to mention! --to provide for a fun vacation. On several occasions my 4 year old grandson caught fish while fishing on the beach in front of your house. We would love to come back soon for another week. Thank you again!!! Patti P

Jessica was very pleasant & helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our April, 2013 stay. The kitchen had all we needed & a modern, complete food market & deli is just a minute away along with 2 Freeland restaurants. We enjoyed the 2 picture window North view of Holmes Harbor & it's bird variety across the spacious deck & clean beach. There's a nice beach park with playground equipment less than 50 yards West up the beach. The quality living room wood-burning stove was enjoyed morning & evening. The furnishings & beds are comfortable, towels and linens are high quality. The house was private but only a minute ride up the hill to Freeland. We enjoyed visiting nearby Fort Casey (be sure to read the descriptive placard), Coupeville, Langley & Clinton. This comfortable cottage is an excellent vacation headquarters & we intend to re-visit.

My boyfriend and I as well as two very happy Labs had a wonderful time at Jessica's beach house. We had the pleasure of meeting Jess upon arrival. It was great learning about her and the house and the neighborhood! Our stay at Baby Beach was exactly the long weekend we were hoping to have and so much more! The weather cleared up just in time so we were able to enjoy the decks, lawn, fire-pit out back and of course the beach. At night the house is such a cozy place to unwind. The house is fully equipped with anything you might need which was perfect as we also stocked up on groceries before arriving. One of the highlights was grilling up some organic steaks on the fire-pit, it was one of the best meals we've had! The dogs loved having so much space to run and play and it was a real treat to be able to toss the ball right into the water when tide was up! The beach was perfect for long walks and when it gets warmer we'll be back to enjoy the kayaks Jess has for use. We also walked into town on one of the afternoons. It is a lovely 10 minute walk. There are lovely views from the top of the hill. The beach house is situated so well, it is nice and private yet close to anything you might need. We can't wait to come back...The Baby Beach House will definitely become part of our holiday traditions.

Wow, what a wonderful place !! My husband & I have rented many vacation homes in WA, mostly on the coast & this was by far the best place we have stayed. All weekend long my husband keep thanking me for finding such a great place & I had to agree, We loved the close proximity to Seattle, we ferried over & drove around Deception Pass on our way home. The cottage was clean, comfy, fully supplied with everything we needed to stay put for a relaxing weekend. I loved the beach being so close, just steps away from the back deck, it was wonderful walking along the shore at low tide & hearing the waves crashing at high tide. Our little dog had fun chasing the bunnies & running on the sand. The beds are comfortable & linens fresh & inviting. I loved all the purple towels & fresh purple flowers ! I also loved all the older dishes & knick-knacks, it reminded me of being at Grandma's, but with all the modern necessities. The views are grand, we watched sea lions & herons while eating breakfast. The living is great for lounging & watching movies, while staying warm by the fire & still able to watch the waves. I often thought how much fun it would be to have family or friends along to enjoy the space. We like to have sing-alongs in the evening & the piano would be a great addition. I know I've forgotten something about this wonderful cottage, you'll just have to check it out for yourself. Jessica was very friendly & accommodating, maybe next visit we will get to meet her, she seemed like a friend I haven't met yet. We will be coming back, bringing family & friends & telling everyone about our great find.

Owner response: Carole, so glad we were able to meet, great to find a sister spirit! Glad to have you again and just might join you for that sing along around the piano...peace through music...if you get confused, listen to the music play...Jess

A friend and I were very comfortable and happy in the 2 bedrooms, but you could add a number of others folks in the extra sleeping hut (super sweet) and extra bed in the second bedroom. Loved the wood stove! Handy to have two large tables to use one for the jigsaw puzzle. We didn't miss watching television because at the grocery several blocks away there's a redbox video rental at $1.20 for new movies to use on the DVD player, and wifi worked great for streaming netflix. At low-tide there's loads of beach to walk and 2 mornings we saw a deer on the beach. Although I didn't meet Jess, she was great on the phone and emailed me info re: walks I might like close by. To sum up, it's a pretty idyllic place!

My husband, dog Buddy, and I stayed at Baby Beach from Sat-Mon and we had a wonderful time. The weather worked in our favor and we traveled around Whidbey each day and the beach house was perfect to come home to. The views are just amazing and Buddy loved walking up and down the beach, chasing birds, sniffing shells and seaweed. Before the weekend was over, we were talking about coming back in summer for more hiking and farmers' markets! The house is very comfortable and had everything we needed. We will definitely come back to Baby Beach.

Owner response: Joy we loved having you are guests. Our dogs love the beach in front of the house too! Next time check out both Tilth Farmer's Market in (Sundays) and Bayview Farmer's Market (Saturdays), both in Bayview a 5 minute drive from our house. Tilth even has a wood fired pizza oven built by a friend of our who makes cob houses. Cheers, Jess
