A Real Home while on Vacation

Guest: The G's (Longview, WA)
Date of Stay: 04/14/12 Review Submitted: 04/25/12

I was in New Orleans for a convention and wanted a safe, place to stay for a week with lots of character. This place did not disappoint. It is exactly as depicted in the pictures with working air conditioning and very clean. The sheets and towels are high quality and the bed is a large King bed (with steps to get onto it!). Ron and Mark met us when we arrived and Ron oriented us to the area and the closest restaurants and grocery stores with a map so we never got lost. We walked all over the French Quarter, the Central Business District, and the Garden District and found many great places to eat every day - we are vegetarian and loved Mona's on Frenchmen, The Louisiana Pizza Kitchen across from The French Market, Green Goddess on Exchange Alley, Nirvana (Indian) on Market street in the Garden District, and Carmo on Julia in the Central Business District. I used the streetcar to get to the convention center or just walked there (about 30-40 minute walk) and my husband worked from the house during the day with no problems - the internet connection was great. This was a super comfortable home-away-from-home for the week and very quiet. We slept well every night and never even needed our sleeping pills! We felt like locals. I look forward to my next opportunity to visit New Orleans - there are still so many things we didn't have time to see or do.

First time in NOLA

Guest: KY travelers (Monticell, KY, USA)
Date of Stay: 04/08/12 Review Submitted: 04/14/12

We had a wonderful first week in NOLA and enjoyed staying in this beautiful cottage. Ron and Mark were wonderful and provided maps, lists of restaurants, and tips for NOLA. The accommodations were as pictured, clean, and comfortable. We especially enjoyed walking to dinner and the friendly local people. Everyone was very friendly and warm. We enjoyed eating at Snug Harbor, the Marigny Brassiere, and in the quarter, Fiorelle's and Deanie's Seafood, and of course, Cafe du Monde. We hope to go back soon!

Thank you for providing such a beautiful place to stay during my visit to New Orleans. I appreciated the clean and eclectically decorated space as well as the peacefulness! I was welcomed by Ron and Mark with a glass of wine after travelling all day. That is hospitality! I would stay here again and highly recommend it. It was very easy to walk to the French Quarter each day and around the block from Frenchman Street and many yummy restaurants. I will dream of returning!

FANTASTIC ACCOMMODATIONS

Guest: Ernest & Curt (Denver, CO)
Date of Stay: 03/01/12 Review Submitted: 03/08/12

We just returned from staying at Ron and Mark’s Creole Cottage for four nights. It has everything you could possibly want while visiting the New Orleans area. Washer/Dryer, the most comfortable bed, private garden and hot tub. It’s a very easy walking distance to everything the Quarter has to offer. Ron met us upon arrival, gave us the complete tour of the Cottage and provided a map of favorite restaurants. We LOVED Fiorellas. If you are researching for accommodations in New Orleans and want to live like a local, this is the place. We’ve been to New Orleans many times and will plan our next trip around the availability of this wonderful place. Thanks Ron and Mark for allowing us the use of your Cottage.

Our wonderful vacation in New Orleans was made all the more perfect by having this sweet, comfortable cottage to call home for 2 weeks. It is beautifully decorated & furnished & has all the extra touches that make it feel like home away from home. The location makes for easy, safe walking yet we found it to be very quiet. Ron & Mark were great & very helpful hosts who shared many wonderful tips & recommendations to help us discover the city. Thank you Ron & Mark for your warm & generous southern hospitality. We will be back. Janice & Gary Lee, Northern California

My husband and I spent nearly 3 weeks here over the Christmas holidays. We visit New Orleans 3 -4 times a year but have never found a more perfect place to stay. Ron and Mark are lovely and have created a beautiful space to share with guests. The beautiful rooms were each decorated for Christmas including a real tree and Christmas lights inside and out. This place had all the modern comforts without losing the charm and character of the age of the house and the feel of the city.

This Creole cottage could not be sweeter or more comfortable. The owners have thought of every detail to make this, my first visit to New Orleams, sublime. The decor, the comfort, the location: such easy walking distance to virtually everything I've wanted to do...then to share it all with a dear friend these last two days. Many thanks to Ron & Mark for all of their hospitality!

The home is beautiful and spotless; great location in proximity to French Quarter and Frenchman Street. Yet --- no sloppy revelers staggering around. Ron and Mark are friendly, knowledgeable, and available, but definitely not nosy or intrusive. The home and lovely hot tub/garden patio are very private. Truly a lovely and perfect place to call home (sadly, only temporarily) in NO. As the owners live next door, I understand why they only allow adults... but it's too bad I can't bring my son and stay here next time. Looks like I'll be making two trips!

FANTASTIC HOME IN A SAFE AND QUIET AREA OF NEW ORLEANS

Have just spent an entire month at Ron and Mark's wonderful house and don't want to leave it. Ron and Mark are on hand if you need anything or require information, nothing is too much trouble, we're so sad to be going home. The house is beautifully furnished and the bed so comfortable. Very convenient to get to French Quarter, and only a few minutes from Frenchman Street, yet a very safe and quiet area. Have had such a great time here and can thoroughly recommend it.

Absolutely beautiful Rental

Guest: Jeffrey R.
Date of Stay: 07/09/11 Review Submitted: 07/31/11

Everything that our hosts had to offer and provided was and is in the best of taste and traditional Naw'lin's style. From the high 4 poster bed complete with stepping stools, to the charming courtyard with hottub surrounded by the flora and fauna. The baby morning dove was a special treat in his nest above. The cottage is situated in a terrific part of the French Quarter and a straight shot to the infamous Bourbon Street. However, for the off the beaten path exploration, Frenchman's Street is just around the corner. From sitting outside and talking to the neighbors, or walking down to the corner market, the stay at Ron and Mark's is truly placing yourself in the heart of the New Orleans culture, which is the truest way of knowing a people and it's culture. Fantastic time we both had. We would highly, highly recommend this cottage to anyone, as the owners are the best-est of hosts. We will be back!!!

Amazing Marigny Triangle Experience; Classy and comfortable! You will love it here!

Guest: John and Jen (Centreville, VA)
Date of Stay: 05/31/11 Review Submitted: 06/06/11

All I can say is WOW. We had an extremely relaxing and fun stay in this Marigny hideaway. Everything is as advertised, and I was extremely impressed with how much of a home it became during our weeklong trip. It's perfect for a romantic getaway; the private hot tub, fluffy towels and bathrobes, and other little touches really make this place a home away from home. And its location couldn't be better; the French Quarter and all it has to offer were just a few blocks away when we wanted it, and we had a peaceful, quiet and comfortable retreat when we wanted to relax. Ron and Mark are excellent hosts and provided us advice on anything we needed to know, especially restaurants; we visited five of the ones they recommended and we were never disappointed. They were very close by when we needed them (their home is attached), but we had total privacy for our entire visit. We're NOLA veterans, and having stayed in Canal St. hotels in the past, I felt like I got so much more for my money staying with Ron and Mark; having a kitchen, laundry facilities, and an enormous, comfortable king-sized bed helped make this place a much better choice than any hotel here. For attractions near here, I'd definitely recommend Snug Harbor--their restaurant was great, and when we attended one of their live jazz shows which play nightly, who walks in to play with the band but sax master Branford Marsalis, which was an unexpected treat. We also would recommend Cafe Beignet on Royal in the Quarter for your daily dose of those heavenly fried donuts. I would recommend Ron and Mark's place to couples who want to have a vacation without the kids, and I'll recommend it to family, friends, and anyone else who will listen, but my only concern is that this amazing secret will get out and it won't be available when WE want to come back. But we will absolutely stay here again in a heartbeat. Thanks Ron and Mark for allowing us to share your amazing, comfortable home.

I was very happy spending just under a week here. Ron and Mark were very kind hosts, and the location of the place is excellent. I was able to just park my car on the street and walk everywhere or easily catch the streetcar. I had no problems returning to the property at night even though I was alone. The unit itself is a great size, and the bed was very comfortable. I would recommend this place to anyone that is visiting New Orleans

This wonderful home deserves TEN STARS ....

Date of Stay: 05/11/11 Review Submitted: 05/26/11

Renting a home sight unseen is certainly a leap of faith .. one must depend on the narrative offered by the owner, the photographs and reviews from past renters. This absolutely perfect home is just as it is shown ... and so much more. Do not hesitate a single minute more if you are yearning to visit New Orleans. This is the home away from home you dream about. From the beautifully decorated home to the special touches throughout, it is special in every way. The flow of the home was great .. it just felt right from the moment we walked through the door. Our special delights: the four poster bed .. so comfortable ... the lovely, secluded back yard filled with plants and birds ... coffee and tea .. shampoo and soap ... the ideal location, which really is just blocks from the French Quarter ... the computer and printer .. the feel of the neighborhood ... Milo, the resident kitty ... Cliff, the neighbor who is also a cabbie, so available and full of knowledge ... you truly need only to 'show up' ... it is all here for you! And Ron and Mark ... completely interested in making our stay a memorable one ... providing information and insights for our visit .. when our flight from California was delayed and rerouted again and again, we called Ron to update him ... instead of getting to New Orleans at 2:20 PM, we finally arrived at 1:00 AM ... and there he was, waiting to greet us and show us our home for the week. He said, "This is what I do" ... at 1:00 AM!!! Impressive!!! A perfect week in a perfect town ... but most of all, the MOST perfect place. We will be back!!!

Home away from home near the French Quarter!

Guest: Beverly and Michael (West Hartford, CT)
Date of Stay: 03/14/11 Review Submitted: 03/24/11

We spent a week in Ron and Mark's beautiful apartment. We were very comfortable there; it really was a home away from home. We cooked meals in the well-appointed kitchen, ate on the patio in the lovely garden, relaxed in the hot tub, and lounged in the charming living room. The bed was terrific -- it was enormous! Ron and Mark gave us recommendations for wonderful places to eat in the Marigny Triangle and the quarter -- everything you could want was in walking distance. A highlight was an unexpected gathering of some Mardi Gras Indians right outside our front door -- a chief had come up to pay his respects to a woman living across the street -- her husband is a member of the Zulu Crewe -- and there was singing and dancing right there! We also enjoyed the St. Patrick's Day parade in the neighborhood. For a getaway, we went on the Cajun Critters Swamp Tour -- it was great! We saw a dozen alligators as well as birds and other wildlfe. That was just a short drive away, but you really don't need a car. Returning home to the apartment was wonderful; we could cool off and really relax. We can't recommend the apartment strongly enough!

janice and i just returned from nola, and it was the first time ever to this most fabulous city. we had the pleasure on a recomendation from some friends about ron and mark's cottage, to spend 5 days and nights at their most comfortable and beautifully decorated rental. the location was amazing as everything was in walking distance. Both ron and mark were the most friendly men you will ever meet, and the cottage was so clean, comfortable, and the emenities were staggering. they have internet, a hot tub, full kitchen, beautifully equipped with books on nola, antiques, beautiful furniture, and the christmas tree was great. what we will remember about our trip is a thousand fold, but at the top will be ron and mark and their wonderful cottage, and their most friendly genuine personalities. they include a list of all the great local food establishments whether they are considered dives or 5 star, including addresses and types of food. As other reviewers have stated the only sad part now will be how popular their rental is and now everybody will fill the calendar up. We just got home one day ago, but we still can only talk about nola, and ron and mark are one huge part of a great vacation. We will be back and will work our schedule around when their cottage is available. we highly recommend their home and can say unequivocably you will not be dissapointed. Thanks for making our vacation 5 stars. One last tidbit as the taxi was arriving at 6:45 am to take us to the airport there was ron to meet us and say goodbye, what a treat. Nola and ron and mark we will hurry back

What can I say besides superb and excellent! Ron and Mark are two of the nicest people you will ever meet and their NOLA cottage offers a fabulous home away from home with its beauty and cleanliness, great location (within walking distance to the French quarter),and fantastic customer service and friendliness from arrival to departure. They also provide guests with a list of great recommendations for restaurants in a city known for eating and restaurants galore. This cute cottage is beyond beautiful with its wonderful paintings and quaint books, the large kitchen with all the amenities you'll ever need, the warm and cozy living and dining room, free computer access, and a bed to die for!! The bed is sooooo comfortable, we had to set our alarm after 2 days because we kept over sleeping. We highly recommend this place 200% and my husband and I look to returning and staying here many times again when visiting. Thanks Ron and Mark for making our 10-day vacation stay to NOLA a treasured memory. Randy and Shelly La Botte (January 2011)

Truly wonderful apartment and owners in a great neighborhood

Guest: SML (DC/NYC)
Date of Stay: 12/26/10 Review Submitted: 01/01/11

This is our second year staying with Ron and Mark - and we are certain to return. Not only is the apartment comfortable and attractive, but the owners are extraordinarily friendly and accommodating. The neighborhood is great as well- there's enough distance between you and the quarter to avoid the craziness entirely if you choose, but you're close enough to walk there in just a few minutes. Even better is the proximity to Frenchmen street, which has tons of music, bars and restaurants worth exploring. A few of our favorite things about the apartment itself: the enormous, ridiculously comfortable bed, the super soft robes in the bathroom, the washer and dryer, the hot tub and the grill. Then of course there are all the little things, like the maps, menus and books about New Orleans around the house. Finally, we can't stress enough how nice these guys are. As a totally typical example, we casually mentioned that we planned to grill out on New Years Eve, and came back that night to find that Ron and Mark had purchased a brand new grill, which they set up on the patio along with table and chairs for us. This apartment is ideal for anyone looking for a comfortable, convenient, inexpensive and altogether lovely vacation in New Orleans.

Great Getaway at a Fantastic Value.

Guest: SilverApples (Santa Cruz)
Date of Stay: 12/19/10 Review Submitted: 12/24/10

My wife and I carefully planned our first trip to New Orleans, and were lucky enough to find this beautiful little home in the Marigny triangle. We saw the pictures, read the descriptions and reviews, and booked it hoping for the best. We were NOT disappointed. The Cottage is even more charming and inviting in reality than on the website. Ron and Mark were engaging, humorous and highly informative of the city they are so proud to call their home. And they have plenty to be proud of: this is a wonderful rental in a fabulous city. The walk to the French Quarter is easy and smooth. But do your geographic homework, KNOW WHERE YOU ARE GOING, and remember for your safety, stay SOUTH of North Rampart Street. Use research to educate yourself about areas to avoid. Also If you are out late at night, you might want to use a taxi to return to this safe and secure nest in one of the city's most colorful and endearing neighborhoods. Street smarts. Observe the preceding and you should be golden. And really, Ron or Mark have all the info. You need to make your stay in NOLA a safe and satisfying one. Take notes when they orientate you. They have a lot of valuable knowledge to relate. Also remember that there is so much more of interest in this city than the French Quarter, get out there and discover it! This cottage and neighborhood far exceeded our expectations. We will definitely be back!

My husband and I really enjoyed staying at Ron and Mark's cottage. The cottage is adorable very comfortable. Ron welcomed us into town the night we drove in. He gave us a history of the house, provided maps and even suggestions to restaurants and places to go. The cottage is conveniently located right down from Bourbon Street (it actually is Bourbon Street but the street's name was changed in the 1920's). We walked just about everywhere. The cottage is very warm and inviting, almost like your very own home. We went around Christmas time and Ron decorated the house and even had a real tree!!!! Ron is one of the NICEST people you will ever meet in New Orleans!!! He quickly becomes your best friend and talks to you like you have known him for decades! If we ever return to New Orleans I don't think I can consider anywhere else but this adorable cottage.

This was our second time staying at Mark and Ron's cottage. What made this time so special was on this visit to New Orleans we got married and I was truly honored to have Ron part of our day and was so sad that Mark wasn't available! Mark and Ron went above and beyond, the christmas tree was lit up and so pretty; all the special touches were so thoughtful for our wedding night! The location of this cottage couldn't be better, you are close enough to the Quarter to be in the action but far enough away to enjoy Life in New Orleans! This is truly a home away from home! Like we have said on previous reviews is that the only negative is how popular they have become - our little secret hideaway has been found out! These men personify itegrity!

Leaving the Big Easy ...

... is not easy when you're staying in a great place like this. Comfy (!) bed, relaxing hot tub, ample sized rooms and a great location in Marigny all add up to a home away from home. We loved everything about our home in New Orleans for five nights and were so sad to leave this morning. We know we'll be back the next time we come to New Orleans. We walked just about everywhere we wanted to go. If our destination was a bit too far for that we just walked to the streetcar at the end of Esplanade and it took us wherever we were going. Plenty of great places to eat, to drink and to hear live music are easy walks away. Quiet street in the evening for restful sleep. And our hosts were great. All the details in the cottage were thought of for us and we are appreciative of the hospitality shown to us by Mark and Ron. Thank you both!! If you're looking for a place close to Bourbon Street without all the craziness of Bourbon Street, then this is the place for you!

The owners are excellent hosts and very helpful and knowledgeable about the city. They helped point us in the right direction from the moment we got in to the moment we got in a cab back to the airport at the end of our stay. The cottage itself was amazing. The pictures don't even do it justice.... it's a nice blend of vintage pieces, and modern furniture and it's incredibly warm and inviting. the bed is super comfortable, as everyone below has already mentioned. It's also about three times the size of a hotel room, for half the price. And it has a great kitchen with all of the amenities if you want to cook and save money. If you are going to New Orleans but want to get away from all of the Bourbon St. craziness, stay here. You won't regret it.

My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed the cottage and our hosts. The cottage was very intimate and cozy and we loved the courtyard. Very large bathroom and kitchen. And you can't beat the location! We loved the Marigny Triangle! Great little restaurants and clubs just a couple of blocks away.

Wonderful Cottage

Date of Stay: 09/18/10 Review Submitted: 09/24/10

We enjoyed a wonderful week here. The cottage is located in a quaint, quiet area about three blocks from the edge of the French Quarter. The action is several more blocks away. Ron and Mark were wonderful hosts...very knowledgeable and provided us with great information on places to eat. They thought of everything in the way of amenities. Our only negative is that the bedroom didn't have a ceiling fan and it was the warmest room. Regardless, we highly recommend this cottage and would definitely stay again. Thanks Ron and Mark!

My "Eat, Pray, Love" tour in New Orleans

My loudest and most enthusiastic thanks to Ron and Mark for a wonderful 10 day getaway! My home away from home was spacious, inviting, secure and delightful! The bed was amazing, and I loved all the amenities, and of course, the fantastic suggestions and help getting to know your wonderful city. I walked everywhere! The French Quarter and Frenchmen Street were steps away, and the streetcar or Cliff the Cabbie got me everywhere else. I will be back again to build for Habitat, and hope to stay again in your most welcoming Creole cottage. Don't change a thing!!

Can't say enough good things...

Date of Stay: 08/21/10 Review Submitted: 08/31/10

...but if I say too much, it won't be available the next time we want to stay! :D Neighborhood is quiet, and the location is excellent for walking to the French Quarter, French Market, and Frenchmen St. Can also rent bicycles a few blocks away and there's a streetcar stop about a mile away, which allows you to venture to other parts of the city, such as St. Charles Ave. and City Park. Numerous restaurants and live music venues nearby, too. Owners Ron and Mark are beyond charming, and pay attention to the little details and amenities that make for a delightful and comfortable home away from home. They're available whenever you need them, but as they say, "We won't bother you, but you're never a bother to us!" The private garden and hot tub are a special treat. Looking forward to our next visit!

Charm and value just outside the French Quarter

Date of Stay: 07/23/10 Review Submitted: 07/31/10

This is a very comfortable and convenient place to stay--an easy walk to the French Quarter and to Frenchman St., but in a quiet, friendly neighborhood. It's elegantly furnished with antiques; the bed is super-comfortable; and it's very reasonably priced--you'd pay much more for a sterile and charmless hotel room. And the owners are very thoughtful and considerate. They even stocked the refrigerator with milk, cereal, and a bottle of wine!

VERY SPECIAL PLACE, WONDERFUL HOSTS

Guest: LOS ANGELES FANS (Los Angeles, CA)
Date of Stay: 05/31/10 Review Submitted: 06/15/10

Where to start with what we loved most about our visit? Was it the thoughtful and warm greeting by our charming hosts? The tasteful and comfortable accomodations where every worldy comfort had been imagined and every need anticipated? Or, maybe the perfect location in the authentic, convenient, charming Marigny district...blocks away from the non-touristy restaurants, bars and jazz clubs of Frenchmen Street? Maybe all of the above? All we can say is that if you are lucky enough to snag a visit during one of the few calendar openings, treat yourself, and enjoy. This was our first trip to New Orleans but because of this wonderful find, it will not be our last! PS If there is one thing that the listing did not convey is the total PRIVACY available here! The staircase in the photos leads to storage space. In addition, our wonderful hosts were always available for advice and counsel but were conscientiously unobtrusive. Other than that, we found the photos if anything underrepresented the comfort and elegance of the cottage.

We highly recommend this peaceful sanctuary and appreciate the efforts of Ron and Mark to ensure that we had an outstanding experience in New Orleans!

We stayed here for over a week including the SuperBowl weekend. The place is well furnished and Ron (we didn't meet Mark) was very helpful. If you want a place that is close to the Quarter and has some space to move about in-this is it! We enjoyed having a kitchen so as to do some cooking and being in a homelike setting. Great spot! We had a wonderful time in N.O., with its fantistic food and music. Staying at Ron and Mark's place made our vacation so much more enjoyable. The place is spacious, clean, well-equipped, tastefully decorated and extremely comfortable. We highly recommend this home to those who love to stay in a historical building. Thank you Ron for your hospitality and the information on the history. Alex and Pat

We have just spent a beautiful week here, and are grateful to Ron and Mark for a truly lovely place to stay. We hope to be back as soon as we can. The cottage is as soulful as can be, warm, safe, comfortable, like home, only with a higher bed, incredible foliage, a kick-ass hot tub, and the coolest possible neighborhood right outside. Best to all who are fortunate enough to come...

We had a terrific time in New Orleans which was made even better by staying at Ron and Mark's Creole Cottage. Everything you read about the cottage from former guests is absolutely true. We booked the rental for the week before Christmas, and when we arrived the front room was decorated with a live, 10 foot tall Christmas tree, and garlands draping the fireplaces! The kitchen was stocked with local coffee and had every appliance and utensil you could need. As someone said before us, the pictures on the website do not do the cottage justice. It really was a home away from home. Ron and Mark are the epitome of Southern Hospitality. Because of an impending snowstorm back home up north, we had to unexpectedly check out a day early. They volunteered on their own to refund the last day's rental fee. True class. Thank you Ron and Mark. We highly recommend staying at the Creole Cottage. Bill and Gary

We stayed at Ron and Mark's place for a week, and had a wonderful time. The cottage is beautiful, and has everything you would need..much better than a hotel! The neighborhood was also great, we liked it even more than staying in the French Quarter.. there are tons of nice restaurants/bars within walking distance. Ron was also very friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to New Orleans!
