  I arrived on a gorgeous sunny day. There was a scenic route from the airport to the apartment, and I arrived to very vibrant purple and white home. Owners made it very easy for access to the apartment with an outside lock box. The apartment was very clean and had all the necessary amenities for a home away from home. There was Wi-fi available and a grocery store less than a 2 minute walk away. The apartment is centrally located on the main bus transit line with access to either east or west of the island right in front of the house. I found that purchasing bus day passes is the easiest way to travel around the island throughout my stay. There is a wonderful nature reserve across from the apartment with a very great walking trail and view of the ocean. John Smith's Bay beach is just a few minutes walk away and is also on the east bus route from the apartment. I enjoyed my stay in Bermuda and look forward to coming back soon!!!

  I was very pleased with the accommodations at the Shalom, I traveled with my family and the apartment felt very clean and cozy. Although it is a one bedroom it had availability to sleep up to 6 people comfortably. I really enjoyed the quietness of the neighborhood and the proximity of the grocery store to the apartment. My family enjoyed a quick 10min walk to John Smith's Beach and decided to take the 3min bus ride back. The free Wi-Fi in the apartment made it easy to complete my work away from home!! I highly recommend this vacation rental, for its quiet neighborhood, proximity to beaches and nature reserve, and the available public transportation line that services the entire island (great for sightseeing!!!!). I will definitely stay at the Shalom again on my next visit to beautiful Bermuda!!

  My wife and I rented Shalom with our two young kids in August 2012. Our rental was for one week but we left after the first day. PROS: 1) Proximity to grocery store. CONS: 1) The neighborhood experienced two power outages during our 24-hour visit. 2) The "ocean front" description for this rental is wildly misleading given the busy road and vast nature preserve that separate Shalom from the ocean. 3) Shalom is a hostel-grade rental with hostel-grade amenities. 4) Shalom has a strong mold/mildew odor. 5) Communication with owner is at the owner's convenience. 6) Waiting for security deposit to be returned. I would not recommend this property to a friend, relative or in-law.

  Owner response: Due to a 3 hour power outage on the island, this renter decided to leave the property unexpectedly. After many attempts to contact him and finally locating him, we offered to pay for his hotel stay and comp him for part of his stay. He declined all offers to make amends. Power outages are rare and unplanned. We are very sorry for his experience as this, obviously, is not the norm. This is the first and only review of this type. We hope that in the futire this renter will revisit the island to gain a realistic and typical Bermuda experience. Again, we are terribly sorry for this renters experience and do our best to provide an outstanding experience for all of our renters.

  We enjoyed our week long stay at the Shalom. The property had everything that we needed. The bus is right in front of the property and as everyone has mentioned, the grocery store a few steps away. We purchased a week long bus pass which we completely utilized...bus/ferry etc. Keep in mind that the last bus to Smith Parish leaves at 415 which did not work for us at all. We ended up taking a cab several evenings and that will run you about $15 plus tip, more on Sunday. Erlin was most gracious providing us with a short tour of the St. Georges area and we also enjoyed a nice lunch with her at Mama Angies. She’ related to everyone! Loved the views from Spittal Pond and we hiked it several times. Found some amazing caves on the island which were better than the tour at Crystal Cave. What an adventurous time we had…go paddle boarding…find a secluded cove…have a picnic at Spittal and most importantly…HAVE FUN. Everyone was super friendly, the island is breathtaking and what we were looking for. Wonderful island and we will be back! p.s. rum swizzles are great but the Dark and Stormy are even better!

  We enjoyed our week long stay at the Shalom. The property was as advertised on the website without any surprises. We enjoyed our morning exercise in Spittle Pond which offered great hiking and breath taking views. Our Shalom host, Erlin, was very helpful upon our arrival and checked in with us later in the week to make sure we were comfortable. Overall we very much enjoyed our stay and thought the Shalom was a good value for those that are willing to independently explore Bermuda.

  Shalom was everything and more than we expected.We really felt welcome and like we were in someones home, not just a rental.Erlin extended her hospitality and made sure we were comfortable The property was clean and well maintained. Bermuda is a beautiful island although the cost of living is very high.Spittal pond is across the street. Follow the path all the way to the Portuguese rock.The view is breathaking.We did get bus passes( actually Erlin bought them for us and we paid her when we arrived).The bus runs right in front and once you figure out the schedule it works well.The grocery store is two doors down and they have a lunch and dinner buffet.The beaches are pristine and the water is clear and beautiful. Vaugh, picked us up at the airport and we used him for any trips. He was friendly and informative.Again,be prepared for high prices on everything.I would recommend Shalom and hope to go back soon

  My wife, and I, have been to Bermuda on mumerous occations. We can honestly say this was the nicest and most convienent, place we've stayed at. We will definately go back. Everything that we were told prior to our trip was true. The Shalom was clean, and equipped with everything you could possibly need. Bus stop was located right at the end of the driveway. Well stocked grocery/liquor store within a 250' walk. The owner and her husband were two of the nicest people we've ever met. They couldn't do enough for you. If we were ever fortunate enough to live in Bermuda, these are the people that we would hang out with. We enjoyed our stay very much, and have nothing but wonderful memories.

  Based on the great reviews I had read on the site, I decided to book Shalom for an end of July stay with my family of 4. Just within a week of booking, my aunt & parents decided to come to Bermuda too so I had to look for bigger accommodations and could not find anything for them close by. The owner was very accommodating and expedient in processing the cancellation and associated reimbursement. I was really impressed.

  We found the apartment clean and well kept.The interior pictures are correct in the description however the apartment is the rear upper unit and the balcony overlooks the neighbours back yard, not the ocean.The property is on a bus line, however the last bus to Smiths parish leaves the bus terminal in town at 6:15 PM. This means that if you have supper in town you will be paying about $15.00 for a cab back. The wild roosters start crowing about 4 in the morning and stop at about 6 when the sun comes up. Some people find them amusing, us, not so much. It did take about 8 weeks to get our deposit back which we were not impressed with. The nature preserve across the street was very nice. The store was only 2 doors away so getting supplies was easy. The owner was extremely helpful.

  This was our first trip to Bermuda, and based on all of the reviews I had read, we were excited about staying at Shalom. The accommodations were fine, but the bedroom smelled like pet urine. We kept the air conditioning and fan going the entire time to help with the odor. Stanfield welcomed us and explained everything. Edgar picked us up at the airport and dropped us off. He was FANTASTIC - explaining the island as he drove us to the apartment, then staying with us when the flight home was cancelled (due to weather) to ensure we were OK. We left the apartment clean, so we were expecting to get our security deposit back within 7-10 days according to the contract. We had to ask for this twice, and it finally arrived on January 21 - eight days after the deadline.The apartment is convenient and good for those on a budget, like we were. Unfortunately, the smell of urine detracted from an otherwise enjoyable stay.

In any case, we will investigate as this is the first disappointing review we have received. Again, we appreciate your feedback as we strive to make things better for our guests at every opportunity.
