My family from FL to MI met for dad's 80th birthday. The house accomodated 16 nicely but there were no sheets for the pull out beds and the kitchen lacked in silverware. The pullout bed in master was not comfortable. It was not well maintained. There was a very nice new couch and loveseat in the greatroom. We enjoyed our stay.Owner response: Thanks for your feedback. We always strive to zero in on things that need seeing about. Since we have not had the pleasure of staying in this property in over four years, we rely on our guests to tell us where we can improve.

12 of us stayed for a weekend and had more than enough room to hang out. The layout of the house is very accommodating for families with small children who are early to bed or need a nap as there are bedrooms on all 3 floors. The hot tub was a hit and the location was convenient to both Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. All in all, a great place to stay.Recommended for: Families with young children, tourists without a car, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks for your kind words. When we purchased Black Bear, we were looking for a place that would easily contain our family and not be so confined that we would be running over each other. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us.

Our stay at Black Bear didn't turn out the way I had expected.Having talked with the owner a year in advance of our Dec.2011 arrival, was told our expectations would be met.Cleanliness was a big concern and I let the owner know this.Arriving at the cabin we saw right away that no one had cleaned the bathrooms, there was dirt on the overhead fans, poor lighting a tv downstairs that didn't work and hand towels passing for bath towels.I e-mailed the owner telling her what we had found, and that we had spent several hours cleaning.I have not received an e-mail or call back from the owner,I would have expected more.Owner response: Our caretaker lives next door to Black Bear and is always on hand to take care of any issues that arise. We are also fortunate to have repair people who have responded at all times day or night to accomodate problems. Our aim is for all of our guests to enjoy our vacation home. We continually strive to make your vacation enjoyable with us.

My family and I had a wonderful stay at Black Bear Lodge.... it really is a perfect place of rest! There was plenty of room for all 13 of us.... and we all enjoyed it immensely. The kids and guys really liked the pool table and they all spent a lot of hours playing! The beds were very comfy, and everything was clean and ready for us when we arrived. I would stay here again if I have that size party. Thanks for everything.... it was a great vacation and one we will always remember.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+, girls getaway.

My family of 11 had a good time in Gatlinburg during our visit to Black Bear Lodge. We had plenty of room with 5 grandchildren and 6 adults. Every need was taken care of and we felt at home in this mountain get-away. Maybe we can do it again sometime!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.

We just stayed at Black Bear Lodge with our youth group from church. This place is just as beautiful as the pictures indicated! A big plus is that 4 of the beds are king size (very comfortable)! The owner was very friendly, helpful and prompt when I first emailed her with questions. Two weeks before our arrival, I was sent the very accurate directions. It was easy to get too with good level parking. We parked 4 vehicles easily. It is right off of Glades Rd. and only 10 minutes from the Gatlinburg Convention Center. Also, their very nice next door neighbors, April & her husband, greeted us upon our arrival asking us if we needed anything and warning us about walking outside at night due to the bears in the area! Hopefully, we will get a chance to stay at this wonderful lodge again sometime in the near future!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway.
Owner response: It is so rewarding to know that our "home-away-from-home" met your expectations. Our desire is to create an atmosphere where vacation time can be enjoyed by everyone who spends their time with us. We count it an honor to be your hosts.

Just returned from this cabin. What a wonderful place for a large family to stay. Everything was perfect. It was clean, lots of room, the hot tub was fantastic. It was close to everything we wanted to do but out far enough that you could relax in peace and quite. I'd do this next week if I could. Could not ask for a better place to stay and the owners are fantastic people!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

We decided to rent this cabin again this year because we really enjoyed it last year. This year was not the same. The hot tub was green and could not be used and the owners were there coming into the home when we were asleep and our belongings were in the home without our permission every day we stayed. If you are looking for a cabin with privacy this is not it. You can get more privacy in the middle of Gatlinburg.Owner response: August 29th we were excited to have a hot tub installed to replace the one that was there when we purchased this property. 28 jets, pretty blue inside - we are not educated on hot tubs, but that sounded good. After the installation was complete, we were notified by phone that it was up and running and everything was up to code. We arrived at Black Bear around 10:30 on the 3rd wanting to paint the lattice work around the propane tank out near the street before tropical storm Lee showered down on us. We were told it was no problem for us to do this. So we put on two coats of paint and while the first coat was drying, worked on the rock wall in front of the Lodge. Around 1:30 we left, we returned on the 4th shortly after nine. We were informed that they would rather we were not there, so we left immediately, returning after the lodge was vacated. We are so sorry that we invaded their privacy, having no intention to do so. And we appreciate the kind remarks made to us while we were there about the cleanliness of our place. We have passed those remarks on to the people responsible.
