More Than We Hoped For
The pictures of this house on the VRBO website don't do it justice. When we arrived, we spent the better part of an hour just roaming the main house and two back houses so we could discover the intricacies and nuances of this enormous home. The exposed brick in the updated kitchen is especially handsome, as are the original pine floors (in excellent shape!) and the fine decorating details in each room--from the period antiques throughout to the chandeliers in several rooms to the well-appointed bunkhouse, which really shouldn't be called a "bunkhouse" but is more of a fully refinished and furnished guest house with wood floors, beautiful antique quilts, a walk-in oak closet, TV/DVD and plenty of room for our tweens/teens. They loved the privacy! The grounds extend a full block from the front curb to the back yard and Dana was kind enough to allow our small dog to stay in this fenced space, even though the home policy says "no pets." We've already discussed returning next summer.

We stayed at this house to visit Gettysburg, and we found it to be charming and nicely furnished. With 14 of us, it was definitely cozy, but definitely better than getting a bunch of separate hotel rooms. We were hoping that we could have had the kids sleep together in the back cottage, but we were unable to, since there is no bathroom back there. Not a big deal, but I think they would have had fun sleeping there. We had to relegate the older, childless adults to sleeping back there. On another note, there was a lot of old food cluttering up the refrigerator and pantry. We took the liberty of cleaning it out, because A LOT of it was expired. We also had some difficulty trying to make sure all the sheets and towels were washed, dried and put away before we had to be out of the house at 10am. It would have been easier if we could have left all of that in the laundry room to be done by the cleaning staff - as we have done many times before in other vacation rentals. The home was a very quick drive to Gettysburg and everything there. We had a great time staying there and would recommend it to large groups. It's definitely a great option!

Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers.
Owner response: All tenants are given the option of doing their own laundry before checkout or having our housekeeper do it for a nominal fee. Tammy chose to do her own laundry. All tenants are advised that the bunkhouse has no separate bathroom but is steps from the main house, so this should not have come as a surprise. Tenants are told that children younger than teens should not stay in the bunkhouse alone, in part for safety and in part to prevent children from having to visit the bathroom alone at night without adult supervision. We often assign one adult to sleep with younger children in the bunkhouse for this reason, hence, it is best that Tammy and her family did not consign the children to sleep in the bunkhouse on their own. We appreciate Tammy's family clearing old food that had been left behind by tenants; tenants are advised to clear out their food themselves; hence we have followed up with previous tenants about this oversight. The Fort Point Garrison Brass Band stayed in this great house during our week of performing in and around the Gettysburg area. It was extremely convenient to the BGA 150th reenactment site, where we played daily, and also to Gettysburg, for sightseeing and dining. The arrangement of the house provided comfort and privacy for our large and diverse group. Furthermore, it was a joy to stay in this delightful antebellum house, and experience its charms. The owner worked with us and met our needs very well. I would definitely reccommend this house!

Would definitely recommend Antebellum to anyone
We had a large family get together at Antebellum for our son's graduation from Gettysburg College. It made so much more sense to rent a house rather than 5/6 hotel rooms. The house was better than the pictures. It had everything we needed to make our stay there very comfortable. It is close enough to Gettysburg to get there in about 15 minutes. Having the corner market so close made life easy. Parking for our cars was not an issue with 2 driveway spots and parking on Main. There are a lot of stairs, so if you are traveling with anyone who has difficulty with stairs this could be tough....but there is a sleep sofa on the first floor with a half bath. Also the bunk house is on one level. Kitchen was nicely stocked the decor was so beautiful it seemed like we were living in a different time. At the same time the house was updated. Dana was easy to deal with, and her response to questions was very timely. I would definitely recommend Antebellum to anyone who will be in the Gettysburg area.

We had a great stay and the accommodations served our large party of wedding guests perfectly. I would love to come back some day with my family and spend more time at the property. It's a great space in a quiet little town and would surely make for a relaxing and simple vacation.

Location Was Perfect
Hi Dana: We had a great trip. The house worked well for our group. The location was perfect, close enough to sight see and far enough away for quiet evenings. We watched all your historic Gettysburg DVDs. They really helped put it all together for us.

My group enjoyed our stay at this house. The decore added to the historical theme of our trip. It was nice being able to use the kitchen and eat together at one table.

Stay Was Terrific
Hi Dana: Our stay at your home was terrific. The space accommodated gathering to talk and eat as a whole group, as well as nooks and spaces to be quiet and separate. The weather turned out to be lovely. Everyone gave the weekend their stamp of approval.

"We were totally satisfied with our stay! It worked out perfectly for us and we had everything we needed. It is well-stocked and felt just like home. The neighbors were great, too, and hooked us up with an Adams Co map. It was a huge blessing to stay in your home. Thanks so much!"

Why the Owner Chose Gettysburg:
We looked at dozens of homes near ski resorts, but kept coming back to this singular property because there was nothing like it anywhere. It continues to enchant us, and we find some new feature every time we visit.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
While we primarily chose the home because it is two minutes from the ski resort, we also wanted a property that would keep us interested during the off-season -- the spring, summer and fall. We found that nearby Gettysburg and the surrounding wine country offered tons of activities all year long, including antique shows featuring dealers from six states, wine festivals, great downtown shopping, horseback riding, Civil War museums, exhibits and reenactments, hiking in nature preserves and more.
