Location: Waterville, County Kerry, Ireland, Europe (Ireland's Southwest Coast, Killarney 1 hour, Shannon 3 hours)
Accommodations: Oceanfront Home, 4 Bedrooms + Den, 2 Baths (Sleeps 6)
This privately situated, Non-Smoking bungalow immediately overlooks a two kilometer-long sandy beach. A short track leads from the front gate of the property to the pristine beach below.
This is the only home fronting directly onto Reenroe Beach. The property commands a panoramic view of Waterville, Ballinskelligs Bay, and the scenic mountains ringing the bay. Some visitors use the home as a base from which to explore the historic sites, mountains and unspoilt coastline of South Kerry.
Others prefer a more restful vacation strolling the sands, fishing (sea or lake), downing a pint of Guiness at the local pub in Dungeagan, golfing (at the nearby world-renowned Waterville course with its splendid Ocean views), pony-trekking along country roads or even galloping along our beach, exploring the local coves, and basking in the splendid scenery outside their front door.
Daily boat excursions depart from the local harbour to the world-renowned Skellig Isles, situated 13 miles offshore. These rugged islands provide the nesting grounds for thousands of sea-birds. On the largest of these cone-shaped rocks, stairs lead to the site of an early monastic settlement on the pinnacle of Skellig Island.
These stairs were hewed from the rock by the resident monks well over 1000 years ago. Those making the climb are rewarded with the same superb view experienced by these monks during the Viking era. Visitors also get a chance to visit the ancient stone "beehive" huts formerly inhabited by the monks and to marvel at their ascetic life-style in this wilderness setting.
Inland from the local town of Waterville lies the hauntingly beautiful Lough Currane, renowned for its fishing, boating and rugged scenery. Other popular local attractions include pre-historic "ring forts", medieval ruined castles, charming Valentia Island and Derrynane Park (just along the coast from Cahirdaniel).
Further afield lie day-trips along the world-famous Ring of Kerry to the bustling town of Killarney amid its lakes and woods, picturesque Kenmare and the timeless beauty of the Dingle Peninsula.
