Words of Wisdom *** We at Villetta Mimma Vittoria understand that as Calabria begins to become a more popular travel destination, others will and have jumped on the bandwagon of the villa rental business to make a quick buck.

If you’re traveling on a budget and think to be getting a good deal elsewhere, (think again) you may end up finding that unscrupulous competitors in the region end up making up for the difference in savings by charging outrageously high HIDDEN FEES during check-out time.

This sly and underhanded practice is leaving a bad impression on those otherwise honest, good and hard working Villa owners.

We believe that competition is healthy for the market economy and the consumer, however at Villetta Mimma Vittoria we do not endorse this shady kind of business practice and we believe in stating everything upfront in our correspondence and rental agreement. In essence, we don’t like unpleasant surprises and treat others the way we want to be treated.

In conclusion, as you do your lodging research for your future travels to southern Italy…we hope to hear from you with any questions you may have, with the hopes you’ll want to stay at our villa while vacationing and exploring Calabria, Italy.

Visit our extensive photo gallery and take a tour of the villa and the surrounding area. Have you ever visited Tuscany, Umbria, and all the art cities? Did you notice that every other person you meet is either an expat or tourist?

Come spend a minimum of seven nights at Villetta Mimma Vittoria on the seaport village of Gioia Tauro, Reggio Calabria. To really get-away from it all, experience rural hospitality in the blissful Mediterranean... Italy: Still so much more to discover!

You are renting directly from the owner - there is no sales pitch, no meetings to attend, no timeshare trappings! You simply come, stay, relax, and enjoy your vacation! Upon your arrival at the Villetta, you will be given a tour of the well appointed town house - Villetta and all that it has to offer. A €500 Security / Breakage Deposit will required and returned to you at the end of your rental period if there is no damage.

Villetta Mimma Vittoria offers all the amenities you would expect from a modern Calabrian Villetta:

The closest airports are Reggio Calabria (50 kilometers away) or Lamezia Terme (70 kilometers away).

All this and the perfect location in Calabria's Costa Viola! Contact the owner for complete booking conditions and select your week(s) of choice.

    • Our stay at The Villetta Mima Vittoria was incredible. Everything about the villetta was just as promised by Michael. This was our first trip to Italy and we wanted to go somewhere wehre we could just relax, enjoy the area and wander around at will. We didn't want to do the "tourist" thing. Everyone was very friendly and patient with us as we tried our best to communicate. We plan to go back as often as possible. We were able to meet and spend time with cousins of mine, spend time exploring farther south and up into the mountains. There were no hidden costs or "surprises" Micheal makes sure you are very prepared to visit Calabria. Sono caduto nell'amore Villetta Mima Vittoria mentre ho scoperto il mio " roots" La vita è molto dolce!

    • We stayed in the gracious Villa Villetta Mimma Vittoria. The location was perfect for our travels and the beach was the best. We rented a car locally and was able to get around fine in the small sea side village. We went to Rocco's around the corner for fresh produce and had a gelato every night which was a short 2 blocks. The Piazza was great too and very close. We could here the church bells and watch how the village was still untouched in a lot of ways from the hustle bustle. We left early one morning to catch the train to Palermo and the street sweeper was something out of Oliver twist, hand cart and all. It was a great experience and we truly enjoyed our stay. Michael was very informative and Pauloa was very helpful as well. We Love Italy and can't wait to go back. Sincerley Andrea and Jack Lupo

    • We stayed at the Villetta in late August 2008. My girlfriend and I were very impressed and have already recommended it to friends. The owner, Micheal, started accommodating us long before we were at the villa. He has extensive and valuable written tip sheets for this region which does not enjoy much travel press. The villa is quite modern. Air conditioned throughout (though we used it only one night); a beautiful and functional kitchen; DVD/CD/stereo; and candles and modern lighting throughout. It is an up-to-date home. The most critical necessities are an easy walk: gelaterria e pasticerria; frutta e verdura; restaurants; beach; and supermarket. Be sure to stroll il lungomare, the walk along the ocean, so you can relax and dine with the residents. We liked Gioia Tauro because it is not a tourist town. We relaxed with no crowds and lived among the Italiani for a week. Micheal engages a local resident who speaks English well if you need help with something at the villa. She is very friendly. We highly recommend Villetta Mimma Vittoria.

    • My husband and I stayed at the Villetta in June 2008 for 5 days. It was wonderful. The apartment was so cozy and very nicely decorated. Michele was extremely helpful with all the information he gives you about Italy and the area including the buses and trains. It was very comforting to hear all the little details about the area and places to go from someone who really knows the area. Paola was very very helpful also and one of the nicest people we had met there. We loved our stay and was also able to visit family we met in Acri. I would recommend staying there to anyone. You will not be disappointed.

    • I spent a week at the Villetta in February 2008. Location is ideal to explore Calabria and Sicily. I was able easily able to find and visit the village of my ancestry on the Ionian side. Accommodations are top notch and as advertised. Within walking distance you will find all that you need including a friendly corner alimentari and a great fresh pasta store. Michele, the owner, will send you a wealth of useful information prior to your stay, including the best gelateria I have visited in Italy their site is gelateriacesare.it (it is worth the trip to Calabria just for their Gelato). For a view of vineyards carved into the rocky seashore similar to Cinque Terra, take the drive from Scilla to Reggio di Calabria along the lower road, with it's great view of the straight of Sicilia. I am looking forward to my next trip to Calabria as a week was not enough.

    • Walking into the Villetta I had a feeling of beauty and comfort. It is impeccably designed with a marble staircase, a wonderful modern kitchen, sumptuous bathrooms, large rooms with that unmistakable Italian style. The area, the house, the weather...does it get any better than this? We can't thank you enough for our vacation at Villetta Mimma Vittoria

    • My husband, two close friends and I recently enjoyed a week's stay at Villetta Mimma Victoria (VMV). VMV's location in Gioia Tauro, a seaside community on Italy's Costa Viola (Violet Coast), makes it an ideal place from which to explore southern Italy, especially Calabria. The owner, Micheal Castaldo, spared no effort to ensure that our stay was everything we had hoped. His attention to detail ranged from providing extensive pre-trip information on the villa, the community, and the surrounding region to ensuring that we felt instantly welcomed by the very helpful keyholder when we arrived. The kitchen is well-equipped -- we enjoyed an on-site cooking lesson and then tested our own culinary talents using ingredients we were able to purchase within walking distance. VMV is pleasantly decorated with an ambiance that's warm and cozy. The washing machine is an added plus for those enjoying an extended stay. Gioia Tauro is an active port community -- we enjoyed interacting with local residents and shopkeepers who were always willing to help us though our knowledge of Italian is limited. From the villa, we were able to make easy daytrips to Scylla, Tropea, Gerace, Palmi and Reggio -- we highly recommend these excursions to other travelers. If you enjoy stunning scenery, interesting history, delicious food, and friendly encounters, Calabria is the place for you. VMV puts it all within easy reach!

    • "Home away from home" is definitely the best way to describe this gem in this lovely authentic, non-touristy town. Michele is a gracious, attentive, incredibly responsive and accomodating host. The house is stunning with great attention to style and detail. Renting in a foreign country can be frustrating and Michele and Paola went to great pains to make everything user-friendly with personal touches, including calls from both just to check in. The villetta is beautiful and spacious with great extra amenities. The welcome basket of food and wine was a lovely touch and much appreciated. I highly recommend Villetta Mimma and will definitely be back.

    • My husband took me to Italy in October 2005 as a surprise for our honeymoon. One of the highlights was our stay at Villetta Mimma Vittoria. I highly recommend this beautiful vacation home. I loved how every detail was thought out and how so many things were supplied for us. I appreciated the love and care that was brought to the villa and to the experience and stay of the guests. It was truly a home away from home.

    • After returning from our trip to Italy and getting back to some degree of normalcy, we wanted to write and share some of our thoughts and experiences. After arriving in Rome, we ended up spending our first night in Fumicino enjoying a fantastic dinner at Il Moro before we set out to begin our journey down to Gioia Tauro on Saturday. It was a pleasant drive down to Gioia Tauro. When we arrived in Gioia Tauro we were ecstatic to find your Villetta as the warm inviting place that we had hoped. Paola was there waiting for us with all the candles lit and warmly greeted us. Our first night was used getting groceries from the market where we met Sylvia and then followed by a great dinner at Tre Canali. Once we discovered this fantastic restaurant we ended up eating there 2 more evenings during our stay in town. I don’t know that one can fully appreciate both your Villletta and the town of Gioia Tauro for it charm until one has actually spent some time there. Gioia Tauro is simply a small town that despite its narrow streets filled with cars seemingly parked everywhere and more people then that small town could possibly contain (particularly during the April 25th holiday/Independence Day) somehow works. Our travels took us to Reggio di Calabria twice (once driving on the back roads all the way down to Reggio which lend itself to some stunning sights) where Ceasers became an absolute must stop, taking a ferry to Sicily and driving to Taormina where the Greek theater captured all our imaginations and visiting Tropea for a relaxing enjoyable day. Finally I would be remiss if I didn’t give a special thanks to Pietro for sharing his time in what ended up to be a fascinating tour of the Olive Oil factory. He did a great job of both showing and explaining the process that goes into producing the Calabrian Gourmet Olive Oil. The things that I will never forget about the Calabria region are the people and the food, both of which are magnificent. I can honestly say that meeting the neighbors next to your Villetta was one of the highlights of our trip. Antonio and Corio are some of the warmest, kindest human beings one could ever meet and we thoroughly enjoyed every moment we shared trying to communicate with each other. What a wonderful trip and we truly enjoyed staying at your Villetta in Gioia Tauro. The time and effort you made in putting together your survival kit/voucher package had more value than we ever anticipated. I don’t know that we ever really new what we were going to encounter during our journey but I think we all came away with one of those precious life experiences. Those are just a few of our thoughts and experiences that I wanted to share and now I’ve got at least a couple of dozen of things that I must get done so I will leave you with about the only Italian words I learned while traveling in Italy….. Grazie and Arrivederci.
