'Spirit of the Sea' is a spacious, peaceful beachfront home with elegant furniture and a wide deck affording magnificent ocean views, set high on over an acre, next to undeveloped, forested coastal land. The home is ringed by pines and the deep green growth of the Northwest. Easy private access down some steps to miles of virtually deserted beach both north and south. The beach is five hundred feet wide at low tide. You’ll be both exhilarated and soothed by the unceasing roar of the Pacific breakers rolling in, by the flight of gulls, pelicans, and eagles, by the wind in the trees, and by the nearby creek flowing out of the forest over rocks down to the sea. Fly one of our kites, build a sandcastle, search for agates, make a beach bonfire or use our indoor fireplace and wood stove. Luxuriate in the oceanfront hot tub, read while swinging gently in the hammock, grill your salmon and dine on the deck or at our large dining table, relax and watch the night sky over the Pacific. Once you have stayed at 'Spirit of the Sea', we promise you will catch its spirit and want to return. 'Spirit of the Sea' is just a few miles from Newport’s historic bay front with its art galleries, fishing fleet, sea lion colony, Oregon Coast Aquarium, Marine Science Center, boating, crabbing, and clamming opportunities, and variety of fine restaurants. Other nearby attractions include the Lost Creek State Park (right next to our house!)Yaquina Lighthouse, Cape Perpetua, and Beaver Creek Natural Area.

We have been going to the Oregon Coast for the last 16 years. We started in Brookings, moved to Gold Beach, and went many years to Bandon. This year we decided to try Newport, mostly because we found this great rental. We had such a good time. The house was amazing, the views were terrific. We will definately come back here. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, people with disabilities, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

We just returned from a wonderful stay at Spirit Of The Sea. Our party consisted of six adults, three teenagers, one child and two dogs. We had so much room and didn't feel crowded at all even when we were all there at one time. We loved being able to cook most of our meals and all ate together at the large dining table. The view is spectacular. I wish you could have heard all of the exclamations as we drove up to the house. The beach is wonderful and so private. We had a hard time getting the grandkids out of the water to do anything else. We all enjoyed Newport, the aquarium, the lighthouse, and we even spent a couple of hours at the Coast Guard station. They give wonderful free tours and we were able to go aboard one of the boats. The home was stocked with everything we needed and we loved the master bedroom where we could sit and read or just look out over the ocean. The deck is wonderful and we enjoyed having a barbeque and just sitting, visiting and enjoying the view. You will love this home and the owners were so helpful while we were making plans for this trip. We can't wait until we are able to return to Spirit Of The Sea. Thank you so very much.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

We were looking for a place where we could bring our dogs and big enough to hold our extended family as we celebrated our son's 27th and my mother-in- law's 80th birthdays. We were drawn to Spirit of the Sea by descriptions of previous renters. But it was more than we hoped for!! When we arrived, we were immediately struck by the incredible view! Just amazing! Huge windows on the main and upper floors facing the ocean. We were right there with the ocean just below the house. The house was very clean, and there was a bottle of wine and chocolate truffles waiting for us when we arrived. The interior on the main floor is spacious, open from the kitchen to the dining area to the livingroom, all one, yet separate. The dining table seats 10 but we were able to squeeze 12 around it the night we had a crab feed after a day of deep sea fishing. This home is just far enough on the outskirts of town that there were few people on the beach, mostly from the neighboring houses on one side; very private. There are small pines above the beach, and surrounding one side, and a hammock among them where I read my book and listened to the birds singing in the trees. There was even a nesting pair of bald eagles in the trees on a neighboring bluff. We watched them through binoculars from the wrap-around porch. There is so much to do in the Newport area also. The owners were helpful in recommending area fishing companies ahead of time ,so we could choose one and make reservations for those that wanted to go, before we arrived. Loved it. All of us caught our limits and we brought home enough dungeness crabs to have a crab feed that night. We spent an afternoon at the Newport Aquarium (I highly recommend this), toured the Rogue Brewery where the birthday folks got free beer and t-shirts, visited shops in Nye Beach the historic harbor area, and ate lunch at a few good restaurants. We even visited Agate Beach north of Newport to see the tsunami dock from Japan. But most of all we liked spending time at the house, listening to the surf while soaking in the hot tub, walking the beach below collecting agates; and where there was enough room that those that needed a break from family or to take a nap could find a quiet place, while the rest of us played games around the table or shared stories in the open main floor while preparing meals or just sitting around. We never felt crowded. It was quiet and peaceful. We would like to come back again. Thanks for a great experience.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Situated approx 35'above the beach, unobstructed view to the west and south, nearly so to the north, except for a few weathered pines which add to the sense of it all. Active Bald Eagle action, full-rich surf sounds . Turn off the house lights and the stars are everywhere (if the microclimate cooperates which it did for 2 of 3 nights) Fully satisfied with the online description..even more so. Everything is provided, however, remember to bring some extra towels if you have serious hot-tubbers in your party. ( or use the washer/dryer in the attached garage to renew the towel supply ). Books, puzzles, telescope, binoculars are all there. ( The Glow In The Dark Dragon puzzle has ALL of the pieces and it does glow) The owners are obviously dedicated to providing the best experience. There is even a Christmas tree stand in the garage when the time is right. Too Easy! Definitely a keeper.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, people with disabilities, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Our party of 7 - two adults and five energetic teenagers - stayed here for three nights in November 2011. The sea was stormy but the house was great, and we enjoyed watching the 80 mph winds through the beautiful windows as a fire burned in the fireplace. The house is beautifully situated at the end of town - close enough to quickly get to restaurants, the aquarium, the glass factory (they give classes!), lighthouses, the old bayfront, etc., but remote enough for quiet beaches (when it isn't storming). There was plenty of room for all of us, and I enjoyed working in the well equipped kitchen. We accidentally locked the key in the house when we left, and Jeff was gracious and good to communicate with. We would definitely recommend the house to large groups, and can't wait to go back (in calmer weather!).Owner response: Thanks, Lea! Love the fact that you appreciated the house and location even during one of the famous (but not frequent) Pacific storms. We do hope you come back, and when you do we'll have a new kitchen floor and a renovated bathroom.

This house was ideal for our family gathering - easy access to the main floor, privacy for the kids/young adults downstairs, and amazing views! Loved being able to lay in bed and watch the waves roll in - even better at night with the full moon! The owners were very helpful and answered all of my many emails. We hope to come back to Spirit of the Sea next summer!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners.

We enjoyed the privacy, the great view, and the large dining table for eating and game playing. The owners were VERY easy to work with and returned the security deposit promptly. The hot tub has no roof but we didn't let that stop our enjoyment even though we had some rain while there. The steps down to the beach were fine for most of our group but not my 81 year old mother. My husband and I loved the master bedroom and the view from the windows. We appreciated that the bulk of the house (kitchen, living room, two bedrooms, one bath, dining room) are all on the main walk in level. This made it a house my mother could come to and stay at and still offered her a good view of the beach and sea. This room arrangement also made it nice for the younger family (granddaughter, husband, and two boys) to occupy the large family room downstairs and my mother to sleep comfortably in her main floor bedroom. A few minor repairs need to be made to the house but over all the house is a pleasure to stay at.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners.

We spent a week at Spirit of the Sea and we could have spent much more time. We had a group of 10 people, three of which were children. There was so much for them to see and do. The House is large enough we never felt like we were on top of eachother. The basement worked perfectly for the children. The hot tub was a fantistic addition as was they easy beach access. We felt as though we had a private beach which is very unusual in this area. I would go back in a heartbeat. Thanks!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers.

About the owner: Sharon is a psychotherapist, Jeff is a pastor and college professor of religion. We have four wonderful children, two sons and two daughters. Originally from the Northeast, we have lived for many years in California, and we love the American west.
Why the Owner Chose Newport:
We both feel very connected to the natural world. Sharon especially loves the sea, and Jeff loves the evergreen forest. We both need plenty of peaceful, quiet time, which this location richly affords. We love to hike the beach and the forests. The house is set well back from the main road and has few close neighbors. It is spacious and open, and allows us both to entertain guests while giving everyone their private space.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Rest, renewal, reconnection to the earth, and fun!
