The cottage was a perfect choice for our trip - our family of three was very comfortably accomodated, with the 4yr-old occupying the walk-through-area as well as sleeping and playing area. Kitchen and living room work well together, the movable table provided enough room for breakfast, lunch or dinner (we also tested the additional outdoor seating on front and back porch: it´s fine, too). Entertainment Center, Wifi, Gardens and Fireplace? Yes, it´s all there, high-end and plenty of features - but who needs them, with all this landscape provided just around the corner? The whole place is in an excellent condition, it´s location in Mill Valley is convenient and quiet. Add-ons like starting day-helpfuls for breakfast and a selection of californian wine fit nicely into the picture. (And with another World Series win for the Giants the hosts may become even more hospitable and helpful ;-). To sum up: we´d be glad to get back to the cottage.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Stayed at the Cottage about a month ago with a few girlfriends and it was just perfect! The Cottage itself is wonderful - cozy and beautifully furnished - and Katy and her family were incredibly accommodating (e.g., suggesting great hikes in the area; bringing over extra towels and an air mattress for a night when we had a few extra guests!). They even left us some snacks and wine to enjoy in the gorgeous garden. It's a quick walk into the center of town, and there's parking right on-site. I would highly recommend the Cottage to anyone staying in the Mill Valley area looking for a cozy home away from home! We'll definitely stay there again when in town.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

This place was a real find. My wife and I and our two year old had a great stay at the cottage. the space was perfect for the three of us and Dan and Katie were gracious hosts. The kitchennete was perfect for cooking breakfast and dinner every night and the fireplace kept us nice and warm. The wine that our hosts left for us was outstanding too. Since we will be moving to Mill Valley next month, we won't be staying there again, but it will be the go to place for friends and family who come to visit and can't fit into our home.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our family of five had a terrific stay at the cottage. It was exactly as presented - very clean and beautifully appointed. Owner Katy Leese was generous with information about the area and even had breakfast and other treats in the refrigerator for us. The location in Mill Valley was excellent and we easily spent the day in San Francisco. I would highly recommend The Cottage to anyone looking for beautiful, comfortable accommodations in the Bay Area.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, romantic getaway.

I stayed at the cottage for 2.5 weeks for personal retreat and "down time", and it was lovely. Mill Valley is a beautiful town and is especially great for walking, with redwoods and trails everywhere. There's a great community center with pool, excellent food, and a wonderfully clean, pure environment. The cottage was nice, though does not have any laundry facilities, which I didn't know when I booked it. I wish I had known, because this was my biggest hassle while staying there. The owners gave me a small drying rack but there was no clothes line so I had to wash two items per day in the small bathroom sink and hang them out, which was very slow. There are laundromats in town, they told me, but I didn't relish the thought of spending two hours sitting at a laudromat each time I needed clothes done. If you are staying a few days, it's no big deal, but for longer it's not very convenient. The cottage is small, especially the downstairs, but is perfect for one person. My husband was with me for the first few days and I'm glad he didn't stay longer, because it would have been cramped! There's no real dining area so I ate my meals on the sofa, which was fine with me but not everyone may like that style of eating. Lastly, although the cottage is separate from the house, across a lawn, the windows of the main house look directly into the cottage windows, so I felt I had to keep the shades down on that side of the house most of the time. Again, not a big deal, but just a point to mention. All in all, it was a very nice place to rest and relax, and the owners were very helpful and accommodating.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We were very pleased by the quality of this charming cottage. It felt as though we were home! And our hosts, Dan and Katy were just as nice and helpful as they could be. They even provided the makings for our first breakfast, including English muffins, jam and coffee. We also enjoyed the wine they so graciously stocked in the kitchen. The cottage was immaculate, the bed was comfortable, the kitchen worked beautifully, and the fireplace in the front room was convenient and appreciated. We would gladly recommend this cottage to another couple. We would consider coming back here any time: Mill Valley is a great place for shopping and restaurants. And it is conveniently located to go into San Francisco or to Pt. Reyes and Muir Woods.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This is a spectacular cottage inside and out. The kitchen is very cozy, the living room and two bedrooms are very comfortable and spacious and the bathroom is very welcoming. The cottage is clean, it is very well decorated and well appointed. Visit the beaches, the hiking trails, San Fran and Mill Valley but you'll wish you had spent more time at the cottage, just like we did. There are many many windows to look out and see the lush forest, multiple places to sit outside and be a part of nature and it is perfect. Perfect accomodations and perfect location... it is quiet and bright here. Thank you!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you! We were so happy you chose the cottage for your mini-vacation with your darling family and excited that you took advantage of all this area has to offer. We look forward to having you visit Mill Valley again!

My recent stay at this cottage was so incredibly relaxing. The cottage is gorgeous and has all of the amenities one could need for a peaceful and relaxing getaway. The bed was comfortable and the sitting area at the top of the stairs which we used for my 16 month old daughter to sleep was perfect. I must say that after our days of hiking and visiting our friends in the city this was the perfect place to end our day. Also, the owners are lovely. The husband was so helpful that upon our arrival he assisted my husband with our luggage which was incredibly helpful given we had a sleeping baby in the car. I will definitely be staying here again and recommend this to anyone looking for a gorgeous and relaxing place to stay while in Mill Valley.Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway.
Owner response: We are very happy that you had a relaxing time in the cottage! You are wonderful guests and we look forward to seeing you again.

The cottage was perfect for my small family. It was very bright, clean and beautifully decorated. Katy and Dan were great hosts. We drove in late and were surprised and pleased to see that there was a bottle of wine, snacks and coffee and food for breakfast. Such a nice and generous touch. Mill Valley was a great town and we hope to be back one day.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.
Owner response: We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay! We try to provide a few items to make your stay more comfortable and it is great to hear that they added to your visit. Please come back soon to Mill Valley!

From the moment I saw this beautiful cottage and its location, I knew I was in heaven. Not only is the cottage situated at the base of Mt. Tam which is beautiful enough, the grounds/gardens around the cottage and the cottage itself are so, well, gorgeous and peaceful. The cottage is perfect for 2-4 people. My daughter and I chose this as a transition place for the month of June while we packed up our house to move to Hawaii. What a wise choice we made. I can't rave enough about the owners. They take your comfort very seriously and were always available for any of our needs day or night. AND, they are lovely people. They have added nice touches throughout the cottage and really outfitted this cottage to suit all your needs, including wireless, a great TV with speakers in all the rooms, a precious fireplace in the living room, a cute kitchen that was even stocked with basic necessities, and more. I often enjoyed sitting on the private patio, or opening the french doors of my bedroom out onto the gardens/lawn and having my coffee on the benches outside. Honestly, it's like something you would find in Home and Garden magazine. I loved that it's a few blocks up from Old Mill Park and the Dipsea steps, and you had an easy walk to the town in about 15 minutes. You can't help but walk around and just drink in the atmosphere of the best part of Mill Valley. Thank you to the wonderful owners and their sons, and I'm already talking my husband into booking it for a chunk of next summer for our visit! Better book fast!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We are so happy you chose the cottage for your transition and that you may return next summer! We hope all is going well with your new home. Thank you for you kind review and it was our pleasure to make your visit as enjoyable as possible! Looking forward to your next visit.

It is not a 2 Br. It is a 1 Br with loft or 1 Br with den area. The "all new appliances" were mostly broken. The oven did not work during my entire stay. The refrigerator/freezer was not working and the dishwasher flooded the kitchen on the first use. The contractor who came to look at the appliances insinuated that I had broken everything. (It turned out it was all wear and tear.) The owners' son, who is the property manager, fixed the leaking dishwasher drainpipe himself and his plumbing leaked. The internet was not working and the son said, "Well, I have a Mac and you have a PC so I don't really know about that.." He did come back later and reprogrammed the refrigerator and the internet modem. I stayed only 5 days instead of my planned 2 weeks.Owner response: We were saddened to receive this review as we responded to her many specific needs very conscientiously and quickly and pride ourselves in providing our guests with an enjoyable, carefree stay. We would like to respond with the facts. The cottage floor plan is addressed on our site and communicated when we receive inquiries from all potential guests. We remodeled the cottage 3 1/2 years ago and all appliances were new. A hose to the dishwasher broke while the guest was here and it was repaired immediately. Wear and tear can be expected from time to time and can happen during a guests visit. The oven was broken (and admitted to) by the guest spilling a cup of hot water on the stovetop damaging the electronic panel to the oven (the gas stove top still worked). We were gone at the time of this call but immediately contacted a neighbor who kindly came over, carried her lasagna to his house, cooked the guest's lasagna and then carried it back to her. We also gave her and her son a gift certificate, at our cost, to a local restaurant and we chose not to keep her deposit or charge her for the damage to the oven...it took several days to get a replacement part from the manufacturer as it is not a stocked item. The Internet was working but due to user error the guest was not able to log on. Charlie responded bringing his Mac over to the cottage to make sure he could log on as he is unfamiliar with a PC format – he was in fact apologizing. The issue was resolved. Finally, while it was well within our rights to charge her for the entire stay she booked, it was clear we would not be able to satisfy this guest even with our most earnest efforts and she departed early without penalty.

My girlfriends and I stayed here (4 people total) for the Miwok 100k. The cottage was so clean and the location is very convenient and beautiful. We had two cars and they have free and easy parking available. Dan and Katie are so nice and accommodating. The linens are very high quality and everything was very comfortable. We cooked dinner and breakfast and the efficiency kitchen had everything we needed (including olive oil and really good wine!) I would highly recommend staying here.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Great and Healthy times! The group really enjoyed the yard and outdoor areas. We were very happy that the cottage worked for their run and girls getaway!

This was absolutely the most wonderful place I have stayed - perfectly new, clean, charmingly and tastefully decorated, quiet, peaceful. It is better than the owner's posting suggests, in an amazing location off the main street and just steps from multiple trailheads. Charlie and Dan were such kind and helpful hosts - available when needed and leaving us to our full privacy otherwise. They were so gracious in so many ways. We were there for the hiking, redwoods, ocean, and shopping - and we were not disappointed. Favorite things included the fireplace, the bedroom's french doors leading to a private garden and lawn, and the very high thread count sheets on the bed. I would highly recommend this property but hope it won't get so busy that I can't go back. Thank you Charlie and Dan!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
