Magnificent country house close to all in Punta del Este but secluded from all too. All you hear are birds signing, all you see is wildlife and all you breathe is a fresh scent of the countryside. Once the main house for a large family of the farm owners. Now fully equipped to be a year round retreat! Cozy, spacious, extremely private (no neighbors in sight!), with pool, magnificent view of the lake "Laguna del Diario", surrounded by pastures, horses, birds, foxes, wild hares, etc.
El Angel is the largest of the five available at Granja Henderson, an 111 acre farm in the heart of Punta del Este. It is the main house and sits on a 2.5 acre lot.
Master bedroom has one king size bed and a walk-in closet
Bedroom #2 has two single beds
Bedroom #3 has a queen size bed
Bedroom #4 is under loft, has access to pool and has a single bed with trundle
Loft has a single bed with trundle
Bedroom #5 was designed for overnight maid service and has a single bed with a small bathroom attached
The house has recently been fitted with a two Magna wood fireplace. It heats up the entire house and is a joy to stay during the cold months of the southern winter!
Every guest staying at Granja Henderson has complementary access to all the vegetables that are grown on site at the organic vegetable garden!
Wildlife is abundant here. It is amazing to be so close to Punta and be able to enjoy mother nature at its fullest without the noises, people, traffic, pollution associated with city life. Wildlife that surrounds Granja Henderson:
lots of birds (Chaja, tero teru, hornero, swans, benteveo, pirincho, picaflor, cotorra, golondrina, halconcito, gorrion, cuervillo, sabia, ratonera, picabuey, garza, calandria, carancho, carpintero, cisne, cuervo, viudita, paloma, tordo, zorzal, chimango, chingolo, churrinche, murcielago, picapalo, golondrinas, tijereta, gallineta),
Zorro, nutria, mulita, aperia, huron, liebre, zorillo, comadreja, guazu, aperea.
Here is some history:
This was my mother's patch. Her childhood farm. Her parents acquired it in 1942. The place she grew up on. Where her whole family spent their holidays and weekends. Second home and until recently first one too. Originally a chicken farm, later a dairy, then a Quarter Horse breeding facility. Now, rental of cottages.
"El Cisne" was the first cottage built on the farm; 1943. The name came from the swans found on Laguna del Diario, in droves, lots of black necked swans swimming placidly on the lake. My grandfather lived here with my mother's family on weekends and holidays while he went building the rest of the farm.
El Angel was built in the 50's to accommodate a larger family comfortably and to take advantage of the view of the lake.
A little about the lake. Laguna del Diario is called thus because the horses that were used a great deal or on a daily basis for the garrison (colonial times) were allowed loose on the fields around the lake. The Sierra de la Ballena was hostile and they didn't climb up over it. So the daily horses were to be fetched from there. A diario means on a daily basis. All places in the countryside in Uruguay that are a Dead End are named Rincón. Thus the area where my grandfather's farm was, was called Rincón del Diario.

My extended family rented out all the cottages on this farm for a family reunion. We had a great time and wonderful memories. The location is beautiful, ideal for children and adults spending time together. The staff was very attentive and friendly, the house was spotless. This house is surrounded my beautiful gardens and horses! We enjoyed the pool and view to the lake. Can't wait for next year!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

A group of 10 of us had an amazing time at this beautiful, well kept home. The grounds are lush, green and extensive, dotted with flowering plantings and horses in the further fields. The pool is a divine temperature and is backlit by simple, elegant lights. The patio is ideal for a bountiful brunch with friends, afternoon drinks and an evening parrilla (the outdoor grill by the kitchen makes authentic meats easy to prepare). We had a phenomenal time and I highly recommend the property and location. The owner was very accessible by email and the groundskeeper was available on site whenever we wanted advice on beaches, assistance with the kitchen, or to practice Spanish. Sleeping 10 in beds was easy, and the three bathrooms plus one by the pool made showers easy to come by. Casa Pueblo is nearby, as are grocery stores and other important conveniences. While it is about a 20 minute drive to Punta del Este proper, the distance was welcome after a day at the beach. It was a treat to come home to this place. Definitely worth a repeat visit. Enjoy your stay!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
