Maluhia ma ka Honua is an almost oceanfront Kauai vacation rental home at Poipu Beach Park.
'Last time we came to Kauai we stayed at a $2000 per night house on the beach and everyone agreed we liked your house even better (for a much better value!)' JM, Orange, CA 11/28/09.
Come to Poipu and experience a true Hawaiian beach experience! Like the Hawaiians, come to the beach, gather at the sand and spend hours 'talking story'. Use the sparkling blue Pacific Ocean as your swimming pool. Laugh and enjoy the weather and life. Maluhia ma ka Honua was designed to offer an old Hawaiian beach experience with all the modern amenities and comfort and with the ocean as our swimming pool because it is so close to the house. Isn't this why you are coming to Poipu, for the weather, the beach, and the ocean?
Previous guests have responded by loving this house and having some of the best family vacations of their lives. Maybe it is the Aloha that resides within the house because of the blessings during construction. Or maybe it is the floorplan that has plenty of private places for two or more people to sit and 'talk story' like the Hawaiians. Or maybe it is the location, just 40 seconds walk to the ocean and two minutes stroll to swimming and sunning at Brennecke's Beach in Poipu Beach Park. Whatever the reason, they have left behind hundreds of warm comments in our guestbook, and you can see every one of them by clicking on our 'Guest Comments' above.
From the moment you walk in the front door, through the charming entry foyer into the great room, you will feel right at home! After staring at the fourteen foot high vaulted wood ceiling, you will notice that this room is totally open to the outside lanai through five sliding glass doors. The size of the room allows large, comfortable furniture and every amenity. There is seating at the TV for six, a separate game table for two, and the most comfortable chaise lounge for one. The kitchen has everything needed for gourmet cooking or just casual dining. It becomes the center of attention because of the counter bar with four stools. The oval glass dining table seats eight comfortably under a beautiful chandelier. Outside is 1300 square feet of covered lanai that is perfect for outdoor dining, reading or just the times you want to be out of the weather. Next to the lanai is a large private lawn with chaise lounges for sunbathing when you don't want to walk down to the beach
Each bedroom brings new delights. The large downstairs master bedroom has a king-size bed and oversized bamboo bedroom furniture with a television and two glass sliding doors leading to the covered lanai and the lawn. Its bathroom has two lavatories, an oversized tiled shower with glass block, a two-person Jacuzzi tub, and an separate toilet compartment. The outdoor shower is just outside this bathroom. The equally large upstairs master bedroom has a king-size bed, large rattan furniture with a television, a wood vaulted ceiling, a nice oceanview balcony just past the glass sliding door. Over the bed is an original oil painting of Hawaii by famed artist Ezra Muir. The bathroom is identical to the downstairs bathroom except it has a two-person soaking tub. The third bedroom is the largest bedroom and has a great ocean view. It has two twin beds that can be converted to a king bed, a vaulted wood ceiling and rattan furniture. Its bathroom has one lavatory, a toilet and a tub/shower.
The fourth bathroom is the powder room downstairs complete with a tiled shower. The laundry room features a washer, dryer and a soaking sink.
'Maluhia ma ka Honua' (Peace on Earth) is a private, luxurious Kauai rental vacation home located just steps to the oceanfront at Poipu Beach Park on the south shore of Kauai. It is a great home for family vacations or for very private Kauai honeymoons after a romantic Hawaiian wedding.
'Maluhia ma ka Honua' was built in 1998. It is a luxurious 2650 square foot beach house designed with the feel of an original plantation and detailed, decorated, and appointed to perfection. Beneath a vaulted, fan-cooled ceiling, the large, modern kitchen and the huge great room open up to the surrounding 1300 square foot covered lanai. Three spacious bedrooms each have a large, private bathroom, and every room is cross-ventilated for comfort.
Three wonderful restaurants are within walking distance and at least nine others are nearby. Two resorts with Robert Trent Jones golf courses are within one mile.
This house is 'value priced' to give you a wonderful Kauai vacation and give you good value. You will spend so much time and money just getting to Kauai, and the rental cars and meals can be expensive. You deserve to stay in a really nice home and Maluhia ma ka Honua is nice enough that it would easily rent for $600/night if it were one house closer to the ocean. So come and take advantage of this great value and please don't let our low rental rate keep you from renting this spectacular house.
This house is fully licensed by the County of Kauai! (#TV3716)
For smaller families, we also own two other Kauai rental vacation homes. AKALA PUA is our other new three bedroom/three bathroom home and AHE LANI is our new two bedroom/two bathroom home. Click on 'All My Poipu Rental Houses' below to view them!

So thrilled with our stay at this fabulous home. First, it does feel like home- and an upscale one at that! There is so much room to spread out, the bedrooms are well laid out and the walls of sliding glass doors brings the natural light and air inside. The landscaping is beautifully maintained and the kids loved having breakfast at on the lanai while listening to, and watching the multitude of birds that seemed to gather every morning. In fact, the bird song that greeted you every morning (minus the occasional rooster) and made you feel like you were in an aviary is one of the things I missed most on coming home. There are plentiful blankets, pillows, towels, beach towels- those kinds of things can be annoying if they aren't present, but this house is well stocked to take care of your family. The kitchen is also well-stocked and clean. I didn't do a lot of cooking or entertaining, but it certainly looked like you could if you chose to. Next time (oh, yes, we are already planning), we will take advantage of the gas grill on the lanai, as well, with a little more advanced planning. The location is fantastic. The crashing surf is heard throughout the house with doors and windows open, but is not so loud as it would be if you were right on the beach. The walk to the nearest spot on the coast is seconds- less than 1/2 block. This spot has no beach, but the kids LOVED to explore the rocks and tidepools here so it made a great, short walk in the evenings for that entertainment and to watch the sunset. Brennecke's beach is just a bit further down- maybe a minute or two. This beach has a sandy inlet surrounded by rocks. It's good for boogie boarding, but had some pretty big, hard waves that were intimidating for my kids. So a 5 minute walk further down brought us to Poipu beach. This is where we spent our beach days. We took advantage of the boogie boards and sand toys in the garage (thank you!) for that. So nice to have those there and it was still a pretty easy walk for our family (including a grandma and kids 6,8) to the nice, calm, sandy Poipu beach. The photos don't quite do justice to this property. I had that 'this is perfect' feeling the whole time I was there and honestly, the price isn't much more than a room at the Grand Hyatt and we (6) were in a QUIET area and could prepare meals. The owner called me after my initial inquiry and was super friendly and helpful and I would recommend a stay here without hesitation (just don't take my days :) )Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Mahalo, Cheryl. We are glad you had a great time! Valorie and I work hard on the houses to keep them in the best shape we can, and it is wonderful to hear that it is working. I hope you return soon--don't forget about our returning guest discount: 5% off for each return visit, up to 20% off for the fifth and subsequent visits.

Our second stay in your house was better than the first! We loved watching the Olympics and having our own! Swimming, snorkeling, surfing, running, building sand castles. Our family vacation was fun-filled & fabulous. We loved dinners with cool breezes at the big table. Kids enjoyed the outdoor shower! We hope the turtles take good care of themselves. Mahalo! That doesn't seem enough to tell you how wonderful our time has been here. I don't believe I will ever want to vacation with our family and stay at a hotel again. Using your home has been exactly that--a home for us. We came with our adult children and grandson and it was wonderful to have a place to go to just relax. We called "Our Kauai Home" and Tino -- 4 years old -- would respond with jou. He could play and relax and we could spend hours talking and enjoying each others company. You have provided everything! Thank you! I even used your needle and thread to fix a button! Ron and I have been to other islands in Hawaii, but now we will always come back here! Already we are discussing, "Well, next time..." We are so impressed at the design of this house--breezes from all directions! My daughter-in-law and I are ready to make our places look similar in style. Again--thank you for such a delightful accommotation.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We sincerely thank you for the stay at your magnificent home. From arrival to departure, our stay in Poipu Beach was a wonderful experience. Your home was most comfortable and inviting--nothing lacking. Thank you for changing the internet modem, which brought great joy to my father-in-law. Tomorrow we leave this little heaven on earth and fly into Oahu, and then back to beautiful Conifer, Colorado. thank you for making our stay here perfectly complete with your beautiful home. We are already planning our next vacation with the whole family.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us this week! Everything was even better than promised. We made a game out of trying to figure out what wasn't available. We packed the cooler from the garage with lunches for Kokee State Park & the beach and we used the boogie boards almost every day. We saw whales, dolphins, turtles & seals right at the end of Nalo Road. We love the design of the house. The breezes blowing through the rooms, the outdoor shower to rinse off sand and the wonderful great room. We had dinners in the great room as well as the lanai! You obviously take great pride as well as great care of your home. Hope we left it a little better than when we came here, although that would be very hard to do! Thank you also for the lovely flowers on our arrival.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Once again a fabulous vacation in our FAVORITE Kauai home. We have tried others but yours gets the vote for the best place to stay. We even had 3 days of unusual torrential rain with lightening and thunder. The 3am thunder was LOUD! Had friends and family to enjoy it all with us!! Mahalo. owner's note: this is their fifth or sixth visit with us, at least.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1998
About the owner: Aloha from Jim and Valorie Wisda. We recentlyt moved to Scottsdale, Arizona from Palos Verdes Estates, California where we raised a wonderful son and daughter. We have been coming to Poipu since 1970 and no matter how often we travel to other places or countries we visit like this photo taken on a Bangkok river boat, we always look forward to coming back to Poipu several times a year.
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes:
We are used to nice things in our mainland home and that is how we built Maluhia ma ka Honua, to be our home on Kauai. We could have built it anywhere on the island, but for one or two week stays Poipu cannot be beat because it has the best weather possible. We also wanted to be near the action, walk a short distance to the beach and a couple of restaurants. This location has a nice little micro-climate because it is in the leeward side of a small hill.
