What is it about this home that guests just love? Maybe it is the Aloha that resides within it because of the blessings during construction. Or maybe it is the floorplan that has plenty of private places for two or more people to sit and "talk story" like the Hawaiians. Or maybe it is the location, just 40 seconds walk to the ocean. Whatever the reason, please read our guestbook to see how much everyone loves this home.
From the moment you walk in the front door, through the charming entry foyer into the great room, you will know you rented the right house! The first thing guests do is stare at the fourteen foot high vaulted wood ceiling. Then they see that this room is totally open to the outside lanai through five sliding glass doors. Finally, they see the sheer size of the room with plenty of comfortable furniture and every amenity. There is seating at the TV for six, a separate game table for two, and the most comfortable chaise lounge for one. The kitchen has everything needed for gourmet cooking or just casual dining. It becomes the center of attention because of the counter bar with four stools. The oval glass dining table seats eight comfortably under a beautiful chandelier. Outside is 1300 square feet of covered lanai that is perfect for reading or chatting at times when you want to be out of the weather. Beyond that is a large private lawn with chaise lounges for sunbathing without the hassle of walking down to the beach.
Each bedroom brings new delights. The large downstairs master bedroom has two glass sliding doors out to the covered lanai and the lawn and oversized bamboo bedroom furniture. Its bathroom has two lavatories, an oversized tiled shower with glass block, a two-person Jacuzzi tub, and an separate toilet compartment. The outdoor shower is just outside this bathroom. The equally large upstairs master bedroom has a wood vaulted ceiling, a nice oceanview balcony just past the glass sliding door, and a light color bedroom set. Over the bed is an original oil painting of Hawaii by famed artist Ezra Muir. The bathroom is identical to the downstairs bathroom except it has a soaking tub. The third bedroom is the largest bedroom and has a great ocean view. It has two twin beds under the vaulted wood ceiling and rattan furniture. Its bathroom has two lavatories, a toilet and a tub/shower.
The fourth bathroom is the powder room, and it has a tiled shower. The laundry room is away from the great room and the bedrooms and features a washer, dryer and a soaking sink.
"Maluhia ma ka Honua" (Peace on Earth) is a private, luxurious Kauai rental vacation home located just steps to the oceanfront at Poipu Beach Park on the south shore of Kauai. It is a great home for family vacations or for very private Kauai honeymoons after a romantic Hawaiian wedding.
"Maluhia ma ka Honua" was built in 1998. It is a luxurious 2650 square foot beach house designed with the feel of an original plantation and detailed, decorated, and appointed to perfection. Beneath a vaulted, fan-cooled ceiling, the large, modern kitchen and the huge great room open up to the surrounding 1300 square foot covered lanai. Three spacious bedrooms each have a large, private bathroom, and every room is cross-ventilated for comfort.
Three wonderful restaurants are within walking distance. Two resorts with Robert Trent Jones golf courses are within one mile.
This house is priced lower than most comparable houses in Poipu. But please don't let our low rental rate keep you from renting this spectacular house. Our business plan is to have all our renters walk into the front door and gasp, saying "How can they rent THIS house for such a low price?" We would rather keep the house rented at these low rates and give our guests a great vacation than to charge more and have the house vacant more often and have guests who feel they overpaid.

Why the Owner Chose Private Homes
We are used to nice things in our mainland home and that is how we built Maluhia ma ka Honua, to be our home on Kauai. We could have built it anywhere on the island, but for one or two week stays Poipu cannot be beat because it has the best weather possible. We also wanted to be near the action, walk a short distance to the beach and a couple of restaurants. This location has a nice little micro-climate because it is in the leeward side of a small hill.
Sandy beach good for tanning, bodysurfing and boogieboarding. 1-2 minute walk.

Aloha from Jim and Valorie Wisda. We live most of the time in Palos Verdes Estates, California where we raised a wonderful son and daughter. We have been coming to Poipu since 1970 and no matter how often we travel to other places or countries we visit like this photo taken on a Bangkok river boat, we always look forward to coming back to Poipu several times a year.

Aloha! We had a wonderful time in your beautiful home. The week just flew by! Highlighs for the kids were riding the waves on boogie boards and sufing lessons with Charlie Smith of Blue Seas Surf School. We also loved the zodiak ride to the Na Pali coast on Na Pali Explorers. Mahalo!

Aloha Jim! You were right, one week isn't enough in Kauai. So glad we stayed for two. Seems like the first week flew by and then we all started to really relax and enjoy the place. First week we had a bid of wind and rain but ever since then it was wonderful. This house is in the most perfect location. We saw whales breaching from the beach, turtles swimming near the rocks at the end of the street, and monk seals sunning themselves on the beaches. I loved snorkeling with the turtles, boogie boarding with the kids (so glad you had boogie boards for our use), sunsets from the upstairs balcony, sitting next to my husband and enjoying a glass of wine were memorable. All this and so much more from the comfort of your beautiful beach home -- who needs to go anywhere else? There was nothing lacking, there is even a coffee grinder. Thanks. Hope to be back for another 2+ weeks. Perfect in every way possible. Mahalo!

Aloha! We all loved your big beautiful house. Kauai is a gorgeous island--our first time here. Our nephews enjoyed the beaches, playgrounds, shave ice and treats. Went whale watching with the 4 year old one morning and saw one of the resident sea turtles. Very memorable. Thank you so much for the home away from home and Hadley drew this picture for you. It is just like the turtle we saw across the road.

Our family had the opportunity to spend my husbands 60th birthday here. The fresh flowers delivered by Vicki on our first day here was delightful. Each day proved to be an adventure -- exploring the communites, culture and beauty all around us and afterward relaxing "at home" in your beautiful house. Thank you for opening up this fantastic home so that other people can enjoy it. We came to Kauai as a family to celebrate my aunt's 80th birthday and we have loved every minute of it! We spend most of our time playing at the beach -- swimming, snorkeling, and bodyboarding. We saw lots of turtles & monk seals! We are not looking forward to returning to the cold, rainy weather nor the Christmas chaos.

What a lovely home you have. Denise and I saw it before our family arrived from Australia and were just floored by its beauty. The sunrise on Sunday was spectacular. The balcony upstairs got lots of use early in the morning and at sunset. Thanks for the bodyboards -- we got plenty of use from them -- between our daughter, son, and grandson and myself the boards almost never got a minute's rest. Snorkeled south, southest and north Kauai. This was our seventh trip here, Jonas' fourth and Lynne & Connor's second trip her so we have now seen lots of fish, turtles, whales, waterfalls, and scenery. It was a great two weeks but your home made it even better.

We had a great time this week!! After a couple of rough months at work, I never thought I'd get my fill of relaxing with a book but on this our last day, I can honestly say I did. Your home is awesome and WOW you weren't kidding about the great location. We spend every day at Brennecke's Beach. I've stayed at a lot of places and this by far the coolest, most well stocked beach house I've ever seen. Seriously, you thought of everything. I wish I could stay here forever. I came with my husband, Michael, who gave your boogie boards a real workout, and my sister and her husband. We fully intend to come back. Thank you!!
