This was our best stay yet in Kapoho. We now make the Merry Monarch our week long get away every year. Living on Maui and working at resorts and owning a catering company which services homes such as this, we are not easily impressed, but were blown away by the accommodations, pools, and friendliness of Sophia and the entire neighborhood. You will be hard pressed to find better than this. Everything is as described and better.Pool table, snorkel gear, floats,3 decks, 2 bbqs on and on. The only drawback...small kine, no Verizon service in Kapoho, you must drive to Pahoa for service but the wife has another phone company just for that reason.
Owner response:Aloha! Thank you for sharing your visit with us on VRBO and for future travelers to see. I am so glad to hear you enjoyed the home and atmosphere! Unfortunately, there is no Verizon in this neighborhood but just a mile out of this neighborhood you get some signal. It's the price we all pay to be in this beautiful spot! :)Please think of us again! Best Regards,Sophia, Muhammad, & Lynette Yunis

This has been the best place on our trip to Hawaii! We all loved the friendly turtles in the ocean and of course puffy the puffer fish, next door. Champagne Ponds was amazing we found a little cave under the house there and recommend going to the Ahalanui Pool it is like a hot tub! We love to come back. Mahalo & Aloha

My only regret is that we didn't stay long enough. Very well stocked home. Just as advertised and more. Beautiful views - wonderful Ponds. We enjoyed all the fish next door. Can't wait to come back.

We loved this fabulous holiday house. We loved puffy, next door. Also all the turtles and the fish were fab! There were also other strange animals that were wonderful like cleaner shrimps. The snorkeling was out of this world! All the pufferfish were so cute especially the baby one. We hope to come back! Aloha!

We all enjoyed the snorkeling in the bathtub like water. We saw a eel that wasn't even hiding in the rocks. It was just swimming along very visible. We have seen many fish and 2 of us saw a sea turtle! We are hopefully going to experience Champagne Pond sometime in the Bdays we are here. We had some excellent shaved Ice about 1 hour away from here or less. We went on a hike to see Akaka Falls.

Nice vacation rental - so good for kids, and plenty of space for the entire family. We were pleasantly surprised by the excellent snorkeling, the cool tropical fish next door - especially Puffy - the Muskovy (sp?) Duck, Mr. Waddles, and SUN pretty much everyday. We loved to go to the Champagne Pond it is so fun. I love the scenery from the Beach.

Wow! This is Paradise!! We had a fabulous time... The tidepools were such a delightful surprise. Everyday there were new lands of fish and eels. VNP was great-spent 1 entire day up there and watched the Kilauea Crater at night - but came back to our Kapoho Paradise for more relaxing. And we'll be back!! The Mullers

This house was awesome and the ponds were great for snorkeling. The owners were always helpful and accommodating. The only thing missing was a can opener. We were a little surprised when visiting the Black Sand Beach at mile marker 19 as there were nudists there. The rental book supplied was very helpful in finding directions and explaining cautions. We would recommend this rental to all. Thank you for a wonderful time!

Loved this family area. Best Snorkeling we've ever had. Very warm water in the ponds and out on the cove. We were amazed by all the different fish we saw at the lagoon house pond and we were able to see turtles. Puffy loves lettuce and the neighbors told us "meat!" Mr. Waddles was great to watch and feed as well. The Yunis family was very accommodating and kind. We'll def. be back!! Thank you!!

Our stay here was truly paradise. We were here with our 2 children ages 7 & 9. They loved snorkeling in the geothermic pool (one word of advice-put sunscreen on your whole back-side if you know what I mean!) We loved going up to the Onizuka Center for International Astronomy. Another favorite thing of ours was hiking the undeveloped side of the Thuston Lava Tube at Volcanoes Na. Park - be sure to take a flashlight. The kids loved to feed the resident "duck." I think that one of the most meaningful things that we did here was plant a coconut tree at Kaimu Beach. We took pictures and got the GPS co-ordinates. One day, we will all come back and visit our tree that will add to the Big Island's beauty. This was a great trip with many lasting memories. Thank you to the Yunis family!

Our stay here will always bring fond memories to all of us. This was a dream come true & this wonderful place made it even more than we expected it to be. Sunsets, sunrise, & even the rain made it a great experience. Daughter & son in law had these vows renewed & it was so beautiful & something that took place that we will never experience any where else in this world. Just a wonderful wonderful time. Hate to move on to Kona after this. Audrey & Alan were the best.

We had a wonderful Christmas without presents - Our stay in this lovely place was the best present ever! Grandma (carol) first came to the Lagoon house in 1989, and with other family members has to returned several tmes. But this was the best! Grandaughter, Becca, which 2 1/2, laughed the whole times she was in the pool. All the adults enjoyed snorkeling here, and in adjoining pools. The vacationland tidepools offered coral pools as well. Most of the time we just relaxed here! Our gracious hosts provided a baby bed and play seat for our 6 month old, who just loved having so many family members to hold him. Mahalo! Thank you, We'll be Back!

Great Swims in this giant Pond. We love sitting on the Lanai at night and watching the waves break beyond the pond. Really no place like this else where. This house is setup beautifully and in a very smart way. We are here from Florida on our Honeymoon and will carry these memories forth always. We had great Weather with sunny day after sunny day. Great Snorkel in the pond and many wonderdful side trips. Loved "Mr. Waddles" and his evening routine. Fantastic food from local sources. Will be back soon. Mahalo! Thank you for the flowers on the table they bloomed all week.

We have spent a spectacular week here. This is the best place to vacation in Kapoho, & we have stayed in this area more than 10 times. It is the ideal location with a very comfortable home. You cannot ask for better Hosts than the Yunis Family. Any request we made was promptly & cheerfully fullfilled. The resident Duck apparently had no name so we have chrsitened him as "Au-Kele" (Hawaiian for Swim & Glide) We liked watching him swim before sunrise. Be sure to try: *Dinner at Kaleo's in Pahoa *Swimming in the Warm Pond Down the Red Road *Snorkeling in the Kapoho TidePools *Buying Fresh Fish at Suisan Fish Market in Hilo. Much Aloha

Our Mom took us to Hawaii in 1982. We decided several years ago we would do the same and bring our girls. Our precious Mom went to heaven in 2009. We have had a wonderful week - boogie boarding, floating in the lagoon, feasting fabulous meals, eating on the lanai, going to the Hilo Farmers Market, resting, relaxing and lots of laughing. We will take this great experience back to Texas and never forget our week in paradise. Hopefully we will return some day. (Our Moms name was Lynette May)

Everything was well thought out for taking care of guest needs--towels, snorkel equipment and fins, fully outfitted kitchen with everything we needed and more. Great view, and swimming in naturally warm pond right down the steps at the rear. Comfortable beds, quiet neighborhood. the owner was helpful and easily accessible when we had questions or needs.

Greetings from Belle's Cottage- Portland, OR Our groups came to celebrate our 10th year of existence. We are a supported living home, advocating and facilitating life for a woman living with autism. Belle had a great time in the lagoon. She loved the warm water, sparkling fish, and volcanic rocks. Our trip was escorted by the full moon. So we knew we'd have a lovely time. The many thoughtful amenities, i.e. laundry soap, towels, working appliances, books and DVDs were much appreciated. The Daily paper was great too! Mahalo!

So mahalo and merci for the wonderful time and even though those coqui frogs were incredibly annoying I loved the entire time I was here. We saw barracuda too, that was coolish. Soon to be famous, remember that! Oh also, I am sad I didn't get to see Autherena....
