Wine Country Retreat on the Russian River with Views & Spa
- Minimum stay:N/A

This cottage is a true retreat, it is one of the best priced homes on the river with scenic views and a large spa. The price is the same or lower than many other places across the street or up Fitch Mountain. It is truly a different experience to be on the river. The deck and dinning room have wonder views of the river and lots of natural light. Our house was built in 1928 and updated extensively in 1999 while keeping all the charm of a vintage river cottage. There are high ceilings, wood floors, knotty pine in the living room, a stone fireplace, enclosed sun porch and deck with wonderful river views. The river flows behind the house just a few steps away. A large 4 person hot tub is located under mature redwood trees. The house is near the end of a quiet street with very little traffic. There is a one car garage plus 1-2 parking places in the driveway.
This house is perfect size for 2 couples or a family with 2 to 3 children. The easy beach access makes it a fun place for children to enjoy the river. Take a float down the river, enjoy the scenery you may even see a few turtles and herons.
Besides the river there are many other activities for guest to enjoy, the Healdsburg Town Square is 3 miles away which offers shopping, fine dinning, theaters, bakeries, live concerts and a farmers market. Dry Creek, Alexander Valley and Russian River wine regions are just a short drive from the property.
The Villa Chanticleer, a wonderful facility for Weddings is less than a mile away on North Fitch Mt. Road.
The house will accommodate up to 6 people. If you are planning a wedding, family gathering or just have a larger group and need more room, the owners can refer you to additional rental properties on the same street. More details available on request.

This was our 2nd stay 1 week at this wonderful cottage! It was a great way to end our summer. We spent the week swimming and tubing down the river and even ventured up-river on one of the communal canoes. The cottage was just as we had left it the summer before. Everything you need is provided and it's extremely well kept. There are lots of activities in the area for families and couples. We drove into Santa Rosa to check out Safari West with our 8 year old son. If you can fit it in I highly recommend it. Most of the week though was spent just relaxing and enjoying the beautiful surroundings. Everything about the cottage is great, but we especially love the deck overlooking the river, where we enjoyed our morning coffee and dinner every evening. The hot tub is a nice treat too (very clean and well maintained!) The owners, Edrene & Ken are very nice and it's evident that they take pride in their property. Can't wait to return next summer!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: We appreciate the great review. Thanks for the kind words and the recommendations for other family friendly activities in the area. Not only is Sonoma County a great wine destination but also a family friendly vacation area with lots to do for all ages.

The hosts are extremely prompt in their response to inquiries, the place was immaculate and even cuter than the pictures. I came up with a couple of ladies to participate in a working retreat during the off season and was so pleased with the care that the hosts put into the set up: from the kitchen (it's got pretty much everything you need), to the bedrooms (comfy), to the hot tub use (convenient bar to guide the lid off and on) and even though I didn't have time to watch, there's a wonderful selection of dvd movies to see...The view of the river from the back deck is spectacular being surrounded by redwoods, I was just sorry that it was too cold in Jan to take advantage of the toys that Edrene and Kenn provide for their guests. The town of Healdsburg is a very quick 10 min drive down the hill and a wonderful place to walk around and eat-the restaurants are plentiful and really great (for an upscale experience try Barndiva, for amazing tapas go to Bravas and for lunch try Costeaux French Bakery & Cafe)... I would definitely recommend this place to friends and family to stay and feel I will be returning when it's time to play in the river! The Russian River Cottage is a wonderful and welcome retreat that feels incredibly kid-friendly and perfect for those who want to just relax and enjoy their time in a home-away-from-home. Thanks so much Edrene and Kenn!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: Wow, what a great review. Thanks for taking the time to write how much you enjoyed your stay. We really appreciate when guests take time out of their busy day to write such a comprehensive and positive review. Please come back in the late spring, summer or early fall when you can enjoy the warm weather and the all the river has to offer, swimming, tube floats and canoeing. This is our favorite time of year.

My family spent a lovely weekend at this house. My husband's parents happened to be visiting from the UK the weekend we had already booked for our family getaway. My husband's mom is very neat so I was worried that the house wouldn't meet her expectations. I was so pleased to find the house was very clean and although it is small the layout worked well. We enjoyed sitting on the deck overlooking the river, watching the birds and then the stars. The house and location exceeded our expectations. I plan to book this house again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you for taking the time to write such a positive review. My housekeeper and I work hard to keep the cottage neat and tidy and happy to hear the guest notice.

Our second year and we had just as much fun this year as last, including Montana (our dog). This year we got her swimming with us in the river as we floated down the river in the giant inner tubes. Went canoeing and kayaking three times. Went golfing and wine tasting. Fun was had by all and the week went by way too fast. Edrene and Kenn have all the equipment you need to enjoy the water and the cottage. We are all looking forward to next year.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you for spending the time to write such a great review, it means a lot to us to know that our guest are happy with the cottage especially from a repeat customer.

This is our second stay at the cottage, and we had an amazing time yet again. We spent our days floating on the river and our nights soaking in the hot tub. I have nothing but great things to say about the house. Great location, well stocked house with everything you could need. We will definitely be back again next year.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: Thanks so much for your kind review. We are so happy to hear that others love spending time at the river as much as we do.

Not having been to Healdsburg before, we (family, 2 small children) picked out this place for its prime location on the river during our recent trip to the area to celebrate Thanksgiving with friends. What. A. Treat! Kenn and Edrene wonderful to work with, and their cottage is very convenient to the main drag in Healdsburg, but still tucked away for some real R&R. You have your own driveway, which, trust me, is a huge convenience for parents who have children too partially attached to some small toy they dropped when they fell asleep during the drive home and suddenly need it right away to go back to sleep in bed. The garden in front is super cute, and the house has its own little path down to the river's edge. Our favorite features of the cottage proper? The beds are super comfortable and cozy. The washer and dryer, great for helping us feel clean again 2 days in to a rainy Bay-area trip. The heater is amazingly effective for an instantly warm and cozy cottage out of the cold and dank of the late-autumn night. The place was so very clean. And never mind the fact that... In the mornings, our kids LOVED being able to have a non-restaurant breakfast in their home away from home right out of the well-equipped kitchen, while sitting in the glassy dining room to watch the fog unfold around them. My 2-year-old son loved the animals who came to visit the river. One morning, we had a crane, a duck, and a cat all show up in view at the same time. If a dump truck showed up, he would have had a conniption. He was just so excited. We didn't use the hot tub, and we didn't use the grill, but both were big bonuses to have on site. The deck is great for hanging out as well, and we did enjoy the view very much from the deck in the mornings as well. A tip for others with small children looking to stay here: we found a great playground and walking track on Heron Drive, just before you get into town proper. And the redwoods in the main square are great for little ones - ours loved the sheer size of these giants, unheard of on the East coast. There's a Safeway with all the basic provisions just off Vine and Matheson, and Oakville Grocery had wonderful cookies and charcuterie. We'd highly recommend to anyone looking for a quiet getaway, and next time we're in the area we're definitely staying here again!Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.

We just got back from spending a week at this lovely cottage right on the Russian River. I cannot say enough good things about this place. The location is great, especially with kids. It's cozy yet roomy with 2 nice bedrooms on opposite ends of the house, which is nice for privacy if 2 couples wanted to stay here. It's extremely well maintained and clean. The deck on the back has beautiful views of the river and redwoods and wraps around the house. There is a nice size dining table & chairs so that you can enjoy meals on the deck as well as in the house, as there is a lovely sun room/dining room with large windows and more great views. There is an easy path right behind the house that leads to the beach and river. We played at the river every day...great swimming and tubing. Lots of friendly neighbors too! The owners have really thought of everything to make your stay as nice as possible. We hope to come back soon!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.

Because the price seemed so low compared to other properties in the near vicinity, I wasn't sure what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised upon arrival; this cottage is adorable, cozy and very romantic for a couple and a nice size for a family or two couples. All the amenities are there for you, whether you are in and out doing wine tastings or held captive by the rain. The cottage is so inviting that the rain all day didn't bother us a bit. The hot tub with the towering redwoods above was absolutely wonderful and the wood burning fireplace kept us toasty warm (we didn't even need to turn the heat on). Edrene & Kenn were very kind to have a celebratory anniversary bottle of wine waiting for us upon our arrival! Healdsburg is very quaint, great food and service at the Healdsburg Bar & Grill (HBG). We don't have Safeways in Wisconsin but I wish we did. Great place to shop if you're going to be doing some cooking at the cottage (recommended). We've rented several properties via VRBO, and this one is at the top of our list. We hope to be lucky enough to return someday.Recommended for: People with disabilities, sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.

Weather was a bit wet but the house was cozy and warm. We had a good time watching DVDs. With a fire in the fire place and the heater on (heater works great) the house was cozy and warm. The kids had fun going in the hot tub. The adults enjoyed wine tasting at local wineries. Wonderful views of the river from the dinning room, a great place to watch the river go by. Fun was had by all.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.

Spent a long week at this charming cottage right on the Russian River just a short drive from town. The river is steps away, easy access to a nice beach. Enjoyed having a glass of wine with friends on the back deck and a cup of coffee in the morning on the sun porch taking in the wonderful views of the river. My husband and I rented this cottage with another couple, it was a great place to stay and also a good value for a house right on the river.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2010
About the owner: My sister's and I were born in Healdsburg and learned to swim in the Russian River. Even after we moved away we made many trips to this area with our friends and family to enjoy the river. We rented many vacations homes along the Russian River from Guerneville to Healdsburg and this is our favorite spot. Our kids have fond memories of spending warm summer days on the beach behind this house looking for frogs, swimming, canoeing and rafting down the river. They named the beach 'Froggy Beach'. We always dreamed of owning our own place and now have this really great cottage on the river to enjoy and rent out to others. Our favorite activities are tubing, kayaking and canoeing down the river.
Why the Owner Chose Healdsburg:
This property is located on a great spot on the Russian River. There is a nice beach just a few steps away. The street is quiet with no through traffic. There are many large redwood trees that line the river and keep it cool in the summer. We have a large private spa and in the Summer a Gazebo set up across the river for you to use.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
The views of the river and countryside from the back deck are fantastic. You can enjoy the large hot tub located in a secluded area under a grove of mature Redwood trees. The house has the charm of a vintage 1920's cabin but with all the comforts of home. Fine dinning and great wine tasting are located just a short drive away. Canoe and Kayak trips are available in town or go for a float off the beach behind the house. During the summer months we have inner tubes, noodles, ice chest, lounges, chairs and a beach umbrella you can take to the beach.
