- Kaslo is a haven for small business entrepreneurs and artisans whose works are displayed in shops and galleries throughout the village. The storefronts lining Front Street date back to the early 1900s and the unique historic architecture of the period has been painstakingly preserved or restored. Kaslo is also home to a number of events and festivals throughout the year, including the famous Kaslo Jazz Summer Music Festival, named by USA Today as one of the “10 greatest places to get in tune, and be outdoors!” A myriad of recreational opportunities sustains locals and draws visitors to the Kaslo area year round: A short distance from town you will discover many hiking trails, hot springs, beaches and other small villages, each unique in its own way. Kaslo´s most attractive feature will always be the pristine beauty of its natural surroundings. The nicest thing about the Kootenays is that the area is always green; clouds form in fantastic configurations, and, if you are lucky, you will see a triple rainbow....moreless

Our family had a great time at Dayspring! The place was big enough for our large family (gramma, kids, spouses and grandkids) with areas for puzzles, games and relaxing. The views of the lake from several of the bedrooms were fantastic. We loved sitting out on the large deck. The kitchen had everything we needed, and the owners were very helpful, and understanding of the needs of a group with young kids. Being able to swim off the rocks was a lot of fun, and there are nearby spots for little ones to wade in as well. The area is beautiful and very unspoiled, after a week we left feeling there were many more things that we would like to do, and are ,already planning a repeat visit next summer. The owner Jacqueline has plans for some kayaks, which will be great.

Great family house by the lake
Great family house by the lake
This house 10 minutes south of Kaslo worked perfectly for us. Plenty of room for extended family to spread out. Three different tables so we could have board games in one room and an easy conversation in the next. Bedding was comfortable and plentiful. The kitchen worked well for us. The east facing porch was excellent early in the morning with the sun and later in the day as a refuge in the shade. The views of the lake are fantastic. The front garden was my wife's favourite place to hang out taking pictures of flowers, bees and dragonflies. The south porch offered nice shade mid-morning. Misty, the border collie was a comfortable and welcome resident. We left the door open during the day and she'd come and go as she pleased and she spent several nights curled up on the floor doing what border collies do... watching. A short walk in one direction takes you to Fletcher Falls and an even shorter walk down the road arrives at a lake access offering excellent swimming. Our kids spent hours in the lake there. Mark was a great host and offered day-trip ideas, books and maps. We found excellent hikes at Fry Canyon and Idaho Mountain. We also had a fun trip into Cody Cave and an interesting time in Kaslo, Nelson and in the ghost town of Sandon. The house made a great base for a fun week in the Kooteneys.

Our group rented this property to do some fall hiking in the West Kootenays as the days are too short for camping trips at this time of year. It more than met our needs. Mark welcomed our extra guests parking their camper on the property. The kitchen served 13 women well. The huge sitting room with fire place was wonderful as was the deck overlooking the lake. What a view!! The property could do with some upgrades but was more that adequate for our purposes. Would recommend it for any group or family gathering. The hiking was fantastic....even with the snow storm at Monica Meadows!

Fantastic Views From Just About Everywhere
Fantastic Views From Just About Everywhere
We just got back from a week at Dayspring Lodge where we shared the house with two other couples who are friends of ours. I can honestly say, this was one of the most enjoyable trips we have ever taken. The house is very large and has fantastic views from just about everywhere, especially the front deck, which became our favorite place to start and end the day. The serenity and beauty from that deck is priceless. The owners were also extremely helpful, and gave us all sorts of tips on trails to hike, places to eat, and things to do, and every one of those things proved to be just right. Jacqui is an avid hiker and knows the area better than anyone, so the first morning we were there, she showed up at the door with four pages of handwritten notes on all kinds of suggestions for activities. We ended up using it almost as a checklist and were able to complete almost the entire list. Mark offered to “drive” a large boat we rented and we all had a wonderful tour of Kootenay Lake, including a stop for a picnic lunch in a beautiful secluded beach on the other side of the lake. The entire Kaslo area is a nature lover’s paradise, so if you like hiking and having been there, you need to include it in your “bucket list.” The same goes for the town itself. It’s small, peaceful, beautiful, and friendly. Idyllic. I think about the only thing I could say that would have made our stay there even more perfect is that the upstairs floor needed another bathroom. There were four bedrooms on that floor but only one bathroom, and that bathroom was inside one of the bedrooms. So the other couple staying upstairs had to use one of the two bathrooms downstairs. Another thing to note: three of the bedrooms may be too bright for people to sleep in. One has no curtains, one has very light curtains, and the other has curtains on one window only. But even with these small inconveniences, we would gladly go back to Dayspring Lodge. Everything else more than made up for that. We are hoping to go back some time soon. Great vacation, great place!

Owner response: Thanks for the great review. Your suggestion to block out the early sun over the lake has been met with new curtains! I look forward to showing you some more mountain trails with awesome views,

My wife and I celebrated our 50th anniversary here with the whole family. it was perfect in every way as there was plenty of space for us all to enjoy ourselves and still have lots of privacy. Dayspring has a gorgeous location and is beautifully designed. We especially enjoyed the walks along the lake to the waterfall and the nearby hotsprings. Kaslo is a real treasure!

This was one of our very best family vacations. We enjoyed the big kitchen for our passion for cooking and the wonderful views. Jacqueline took us on two amazing hikes right up to the glaciers. Our teenagers were thrilled
