A perfect Christmas in Mexico
A perfect Christmas in Mexico
My family and I had a great time at Sisal Sur Mer! It was the first time we decided to break away from our usual Christmas traditions and instead head off on a family vacation. The change is destined to be repeated after our amazing experience in Sisal. The guest house was exactly what we needed for the four of us. It was spacious, clean, comfortable, and welcoming. My parents got to share the lovely master bedroom with morning views of the ocean! I took the room with two twin beds, which allowed for quiet and a few extra hours of sleep without hearing the going-ons of the rest of the home. The room where my brother stayed was less comfortable than the other two, as it doesn't have as much privacy and isn't as quiet, but he managed all the same :) The house is right on the beach, so after making a quick cup of coffee it was just a simple stumble to set up and catch some rays. The afternoons were wonderfully spent in a hammock reading or napping. The kitchen was well supplied with pots and pans and dishes, so we got right to cooking after we did a "quick" run to the Costco in Merida. When we were too tired to cook, or wanted seafood, we went to one of the best restaurants I've ever had the pleasure of eating at, La Palapa de Soco. Although late-eaters beware! The restaurant closes when the customers stop coming in so don't wait too late if it's a quiet day in town. We also got in some sightseeing, with a day-trip to Merida and one to Uxmal and the Puuc Route. My family has been to the Yucatan before so we weren't as focused on venturing out as we were on resting and relaxing. However, Sisal is a great beach location if you also want to get in some touristing. Marty, the owner of Sisal Sur Mer, was extremely helpful with everything we needed and my whole family enjoyed getting to know him over the course of our stay. The only complaint that I had was that there were workers around doing renovations and updates on the property (which is great for future renters!) and were there and a little noisy early in the morning sometimes and took away a little bit from the seclusion of the location. Otherwise we had a truly stellar visit in Sisal and it would not have been nearly as excellent if we'd stayed elsewhere. The whole family hopes to return in the not too distant future and look forward to more time in this very, very special corner of the world.

Brilliant Holiday in Sisal at villa Sisal sur Mer
Brilliant Holiday in Sisal at villa Sisal sur Mer
We had a 4 week glorious holiday which, at the same time, was peaceful and adventuresome. The owner was a solicitous, thoughtful, gracious and fun host. He made us welcome and feel at home but also gave us the space to be by ourselves. The description of the villa, location, layout and amenities was more than accurate - the hacienda felt like home. We loved its comfort, colours, furniture and layout. We had the service of a cleaning lady on a weekly basis. We often cooked our meals in the well-equipped kitchen and ate on the back patio amongst the stand of palm/coconut trees and overlooking the sea. Sisal is not a "resort" village. It is a fishing village with wonderfully friendly, open and helpful people. Although we met a few holiday-makers from overseas, Sisal is an unspoiled authentic Mayan fishing village. The beach, right outside the villa's back patio is beautiful, clean, and almost always empty, and you can walk it for miles enjoying the exotic birds and pelicans. The twice daily flypast of thousands of flamingos above the beach was a sight to see. There are several good restaurants in the village and one in particular, La Palapa, was our favourite because of the family that ran it and the wonderful fresh seafood they prepared. There was always great company in the restaurant with lots of laughter and much Sisal history. We felt safe walking in the village and on the beaches, even at night. We spent a lot of time at the harbour watching fishermen come in with their catch and watching sea cucumbers being prepared for export. With a rented car, we made wonderful day trips to Mayan temples, the nearby town of Hunucma and the city of Merida, always returning to our villa, our home. We picked shells for hours on the beach by the villa and on another nearby beach. Grocery shopping in Sisal's stores and market as well as in Hunucma was a great experience where we made friends with the shopkeepers and their customers.Anyone choosing to rent Villa Sisal sur Mer will have chosen a lovely home, beautifully situated on the beach, and the possibility of making their holiday whatever they wish to make it. Now back in Canada, we hold dear our memories of Sisal sur Mer and our holiday amongst the Mayan people.

My stay in Sisal was just perfect. A beautiful house, well decorated, clean, right in the beach! The kitchen is well equipped, bathrooms are spacious, luxe, calme et volupté! Yolande and Marty were great, giving me all informations I needed for my activities in the area. I spent much time bird watching , collecting seashells, walking around the village. I met nice people and had the chance to practice my Spanish. One hour away from Merida , it is easy to go to the capital of Yucatan to discover that interesting city . I had the BEST fish and seafood soup I had ever tasted at "La palapa de Socco" my favorite restaurant in Sisal. I highly recommend that location. Everything was great. Louise

My Family and I Had a Wonderful Time
My family and I had a wonderful time at this very quaint and quiet rental. We enjoyed both the beach in the back yard, and the refreshing pool. The water pressure was good (which is suprising for a small town in mexico). There were movies and booths which were great when the hurricanes kept us indoors. We enjoyed swinging in the hammocks both inside and out. The fans in every room made our stay very comfortable. We mada a day trip to cancun, chichin itza, celestun, merida, and cenotes as well. The driving was easy and well marked roads made it easy to find things. We found the kitchen well stocked with pans, utensils, plates, bowls, etc. It was nice having Ramon on site to care for things as they came up.

A Month At Sisal Sur Mer
A Month At Sisal Sur Mer
The month we spent at this wonderful house was the best. We have spent eleven winter vacations in Mexico, many in Celestun, but this month with the friendly and helpful Patricks was our favorite. The spacious house was perfect, really tastefully decorated and outfitted with everything we needed. It was more than we imagined. We can recommend it to anyone. Sisal is a very clean and friendly Mexican village with great birding and shelling and lots of good restaurants, too. We are planning on going back next year!
