We have a great time in Vermont staying at this beautiful farmhouse. The location was convenient to skiing at Burke Mountain (15-20 minutes) and the area / views were outstanding. Otto and Lynn, who own the house, live right down the street and could not have been nicer giving us a quick tour of the house as we arrived along with some fresh maple syrup, invited our kids come see their chickens, sheep and geese. The house is in great shape. There is plenty of room, extremely clean and it is stocked with different activities for the kids both inside (board games, DVD) and outside (logging trails) on the property. It was a great time and we look forward to coming back. The McDermott’s Barrington, RIDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

What a beautiful (and huge!) house in such a gorgeous landscape with breath-taking views! You will enjoy this family house, with so much attention to details in the decor, especially for all of you coming from Europe, you will recognize a piece of your homeland like we did. We are French and were quite very surprised to find a 1000 Bornes game so far from the mothership which brought back memories for us like a madeleine de Proust. Large kitchen, plenty of light, warmth, eggs and syrup, thank you so much to the Wurzburg family for their very welcoming house and mind!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

This has been our second stay in this wonderful vacation home. The first time, we spent 5 days in April, 2011. Now we had great 14 days of winterwonderland in this beautiful cozy, very well equipped and maintained house. And we are looking forward to our 3rd stay at the beginning of June. This house is like coming home: a perfect spot to relax and regenerate. This is not only because of the very cozy interior, the awesome panorama view out of the livingroom and wintergarden windows, the great library with a wonderful selection of a lot of interesting books, but especially the hospitality of the owners, who made us feel so welcome and at home - thank you very much! The house is located a few miles out of St. Johnsbury, the road is well maintained also in winter. Within 10 min. you are in town, within 20 min., you reach the Burke mountain ski area. Right out of the front door, you can find wonderful hiking trails where you can find poem tables attached to some trees. The farm of the owners produce its own organic food, and if you like, you can get fresh eggs and vegetables. We can highly recommend this wonderful place! It pains me to even write this as it may contribute to direct competition to rent this wonderful house, view and land. We have been there twice now in both summer and winter and both times have been exceptional. The house is great, with loads of windows and views of the mountains, as well as a sun-room in which we ate every single meal in on the last trip. The house has a nice open lay-out and the upstairs has a very large bedroom (with serious play space) and a smaller bedroom and full bath. Waking up in the downstairs bedroom is pretty Utopian. Every morning should be filled with mountains in the distance, fields and trees (and the smell of lilacs in the spring). The land surrounding the house is also (again) great; wonderful cross-country ski-trails, literally out the back door, we spent hours and hours exploring. In the summer, great for walking and finding/hearing all sorts of forest dwellers. I lost track of how many hours I spent on the front porch just enjoying the view and listening to the warblers. The area has a great array of outdoor activities and Lyndonville has an excellent outdoors shop for rentals and gear (fishing, biking, kayaking, clothes) with great staff and prices (Village Sports). Great hiking, great back road biking (and challenging), fishing and kayaking/canoeing. That is just during the warm months; I still have designs on Burke Mountain for downhill skiing. I didn't get to it last winter because I was enjoying the trails out back so much. If you enjoy being outside, quiet, nature, and sitting around eating you have found yourself a good spot here. Oh, the owners are just as great as the land too.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers.

02/15/10 We really enjoyed our stay at the farmhouse. We went up for Christmas vacation and skied Jay Peak and Burke Mt. The house was very convienent to both (although Jay is a good 1 hour drive away). Burke Mt. is about a 15 minute drive. We found the house to be warm and inviting with ample space for everybody. The maple syrup and Cabot cheese left by Otto and his wife were a nice touch. The many windows throughout provided beautiful views of the vast countryside. It would be nice to be able to use the woodstove, but I guess there is an issue with the insurance company and it was not available for our use. We really enjoyed feeding the farm animals in the morning with our table scraps (especially the pigs!). We look forward to returning to the farm. It won't be soon enough!
