We live on this property in a separate house and have a small 7 acre farm. We raise llamas, donkeys, and fruit and vegetables. We also have 2 horses, 23 laying hens, 2 dog, 4 cats, and fish in the pond. This is a lovely rural community that is close enough to town to give you the best of both worlds.
The 'cottage' is a 1400 sq. ft. home built on a small hill with garage underneath it. Access to the home can be up the front stairs, up the inside stairs on foot or on electric chair that glides to the top of the stairs. A car can also be driven to the back of the cottage with access up 2 steps to the second bedroom and the rest of the house.
There is a hammock under the screened porch for relaxing, reading and listening to the birds. We have walking trails on the adjoining 30 acres, as well as a picnic table in the woods. There is a fire pit next to the pond for bonfires. The sky at night is filled with stars and the sounds of hoot owls. Deer and turkeys visit the hills. We are close to famous motorcycle roads that wind through the mountains. Well behaved pets are welcome, but we do ask that they do not get on furniture and are crated when you leave the home.

Thank you for sharing your farm with us. We had a wonderful time intentionally doing little to nothing. I sat around reading and occasionally wandering out to take in the beautiful area. Loved watching the animals and petting the kitties. My husband and I spent plenty of time sitting on the screened deck enjoying the cool crisp air! I had the opportunity to eat vegetables I picked from one of the gardens myself and also for the first time I collected eggs straight from the source. It was all just a pleasure. I recommend the place to anyone who just needs some breathing space to think and to unwind. Also I want to note that the owners are a big part of the attraction of this place. Tony and Linda are genuine and just such welcoming hosts. You feel like you have known them forever. Thanks again! The listing described the place accurately. The property was clean and well-maintained. The owners were very helpful and I would be happy to recommend the place to friends and family.

Really enjoyed our stay at this cottage which was just as advertised or better. It was very clean and had all the essentials - even some extras. We could tell the owners put a great deal of thought into making their guests comfortable. It is a relaxing setting. Thanks for your hospitality Tony and Linda.and for accommadating our special needs dog. She really had a great time too.

What a neat place in the mountains to spend a vacation! My wife and I loved everything. We love animals, so we had fun visiting the horses, chickens. llamas, the barn cats and the donkey. I had never had eggs fresh from the chicken coop before but it was great. The cottage was comfortable, clean and nicely appointed, very restful. The property and the views were outstanding. I hope I can find someplace like this when I retire. Linda and Tony also foster dogs and cats for adoption shelters; so if you are wanting to adopt a dog or cat they can help you. I'm a business owner and I'm always busy, so a getaway like this is perfect for quiet rest, and contemplation that our modern internet age may be connecting people and places but disconnecting us from who we are. When you come to visit, the horses and donkey love apples, but only if you have cut them into bite-size pieces first.

Owner response: One of the nice perks of having a rental that includes our farm animals is that you get really great folks who love animals, too. Richard's comment about becoming disconnected from who we are really is true. When you are here with nature all around you it is a chance to reconnect with yourself and if friends or family are here too, then it is time well spent in reconnecting with them also.

We had a wonderful week at Tender Mercy. Linda and Tony are incredibly gracious hosts and made us feel so welcome. Our young children LOVED the animals and the space to roam around. We reveled in the simple pleasures of picking blackberries (then making a truly amazing cobbler with the recipe Linda gave us!), gathering eggs from the henhouse each morning, and visiting the kittens they were fostering at the time. The house is very comfortable and homey, the entire property is gorgeous, the location ideal for exploring both Waynesville and Asheville, and the price is very reasonable. The only criticism I can think of was that the wireless internet access was occasionally spotty. But it was vacation--who needs to check email? I would wholeheartedly recommend Tender Mercy. (My only hesitation in doing so is wanting to prevent others from discovering this gem, so that the dates we'll want to come next summer will still be available!) We can't wait to go back.

Owner response: Such a joy for us to have a young family here. We are grandparents, but ours are miles away. We always enjoy sharing our special place with folks who love it too. Let us know early when your next vacation is planned so we can reserve it for you!

I stayed at Tender Mercy Retreat with my dog for two weeks. I was looking forward to a real time of rest and retreat from my busy and noise-filled work schedule. I enjoyed the silence that the property provided, walks around the lake and property, and visiting with the assorted animals. A trip into Waynesville was only 6.5 miles away and drive to the BR Parkway even closer. The cabin was clean and provided everything I needed. Tony and Linda took care of any questions I had and gave me tips to local places to shop or eat. Perfectly situated near the Interstate and BR Parkway it was possible to take any number of interesting day trips in any direction. There is nothing like staying in the Great Smokey Mountains and The Tender Mercy Retreat is a perfect get-away!

Our family and friends had a wonderful time at Tender Mercy Retreat. The cottage is exactly what we were looking for, with the added benefit of all the animals. The donkey was a favorite of the kids, as well as being able to collect our own eggs for breakfast. Thank you Linda and Tony for a lovely visit. We truly enjoyed the Waynesville area and would love to return-hopefully we will get some snow the next time. Thank you!

My Husband,13yr old son, Mom, and 13 yr old nephew and myself stayed for a week just after Christmas. What a wonderful place to stay at as the house is very cozy and having the animals just a few steps away was awesome. We had fresh eggs in the morning from the chickens and the donkey is just the cutest little guy ever. We had our two dogs with us as they always have to travel with us and they just had so much fun playing in the snow and following us down the hills on the sleds that Linda and Tony have for sledding. We will be back very soon and would encourage anyone visiting this area to stay at Tender Mercy Retreat. We LOVED it !!!!!

About the owner: We love the mountains of Western North Carolina and the lifestyle of living on a small farm, yet being close to the town of Waynesville and the city of Asheville. We feel that we have a responsibility to care for all of our animals and the land in a respectful manner. We make everyone welcome who visits here. We want them to love it as we do. Our mailing address is Sexton 383 Heath Retreat Rd., Waynesville, NC 28786

                  Why the Owner Chose Waynesville:
It just happened, as we wanted this property to live on, and the second house was a bonus.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
