Why the Owner Chose Lavonia
We purchased this property in 2004 for the following reasons: close to our house in Atlanta; one level house; Lake Hartwell is not as busy as Lanier; the price was right; deep cove water; the neighborhood is filled with high end homes.
Owner's Map of Lavonia
Our family enjoys spending time at this Sheriff Tarpley location on Lake Hartwell. Our 11 year old boy enjoys the campfires at night, my 8 yr daughter enjoys feeding apples to the neighbors horses, my 2 1/2 year old boy loves the boat and anything motorized. My wife enjoys getting up before everyone else to sit on the deck and drink her morning coffee. Myself, I enjoy hanging out on the dock and watching the kids have so much fun.

Annual Brother's Vacation at Hartwell

My husband grew up spending summers with all his cousins on Lake Hartwell, so we try to go for a week every year with my brother and sister in-law. Between us we have 4 teenage boys, so finding a house with a seperate game room/hang out for the guys was great! The guys played pool, watched baseball, and just chilled without mom hovering. Plus evenings at the house were more relaxed for the adults. The canoe was a hit for fishing and exploring. The deep water at the dock was great for swimming and the ski boat. Being able to bring our dog was an added bonus. It is definitely a step decline to the dock, but we look for that so we can be on deep water. I mostly walked down to the dock since going down the stairs really was not bad (I'm in my early 50's), but I only walked back up twice during the week - the mule rides were much easier. Teenage boys eat tons and constantly, so we always cook big meals rather than eat out. There are plenty of pots and pans, but no pyrex type dishes that could be used in the microwave or oven, so I would recommend stocking a few of those items. Having only 1 shower was a bit difficult to manage with 8 people. The house would be prefect if you could install a shower in the master bath. Other than that it was really a good vacation house. We had great time!

The owner was very helpful with helping us with a last minute reservation of this property. The place was very clean and was everything we were looking for in a lake house. We spent most of our time down at the dock and enjoyed using the mule to transport people and coolers. It is very simple to get your boat to the landing down the street and the dock is on deep water so no issues with navigating the boat or jet skis. Very little boat traffic in the area which made for calm waters.

Overall we had a great time. The kids had a great time on the canoe and all caught plenty of fish. The only downside to the house is the walk to the lake. Very steep and without the ATV vehicle it really wears you out.
Owner response:Thanks again, for staying with us. Our guest really enjoy the use of the Kawasaki mule. They thow coolers, fire wood, gas for the boat, and floats in the back while enjoying a ride from the house to the lake. Personally, I don't enjoy walking up it, but I always choose to use the mule. It would'nt be a vacation if I asked my guest to walk it. Thanks again, Dan

We had a very nice time at this lake house! It was very clean and the owners were more than accommodating. We even used the Mule to get to and from the lake/dock, which is a very steep slope.

We've been vacationing at Lake Hartwell for almost ten years now, but since finding the Sheriff Tarpley property several years ago we've never stayed anywhere else. The great thing about this property is that as soon as you walk in the door you immediately feel comfortable. The layout of the home and furnishings make it an excellent place for entertaining family and friends or just relaxing by a warm fire. The decks overlooking the lake are incredible, and I swear one of them is almost as large as the house itself. When we arrive at Sheriff Tarpley we always have everything we need. There are plenty of nice new towels, extra sheets for all of the beds, paper goods and a gas grill...that is a must in our family. There are plenty of utensils, pots and pans and dishes and lots of space to store your own traveling necessities. The kitchen renovation turned out beautifully with great looking countertops and a new sink and faucet. The covered dock has worked perfectly for us as we have a boat that travels with us and we like to keep it covered. Did I mention that you can practically throw a rock to the boat drop from the end of this dock…yes, it is that close. Being on deep water, even when the lake level has been low, has been extremely nice. We love spending time relaxing on the dock in the warm sun and then taking a cool swim off the end of the dock. There is a mighty steep decline/incline going to and from the waterfront, but having the ATV at your disposal is very handy. We usually load everything up we'll need for the day in the back of the Mule and make our decent. The neighbors are extremely nice and the owners of this property are excellent to work with. They are truly one of the main reasons we love renting this property. They listen to your needs and do everything in their power to make your stay one of total relaxation and enjoyment. The Sheriff Tarpley property is great find on Lake Hartwell!

We had a wonderful weekend on Lake Hartwell at this well appointed and comfortable lake home. The location on the lake is very convienant to Tugaloo State Park and Harbor Light Marina. Deep water, great outdoor decks and the softest sheets I've ever slept on!! So great to have our dogs with us. They loved jumping off the dock and riding around the lake. I love that some great rental home owners still allow big dogs in their places. We'll be back.

We just returned from our vacation at Cozy Geraway and had a great time. The house location is very convienient, just minutes off I85. The location on the lake is also great, a nice open area with very little boat traffic, so great for swimming and playing. Having a canoe ataccessible was great. We brought our boat and kept it at the dock and the boys spent time fishing at the dock. We really enjoyed our time at the lake - thanks Dan!!!
