Pictures and descriptions are for selling you on it. I was wary due to the 1st review. Pura(prop mgr) said it was extenuating circumstances. Upon arrival, 2br was cleaned, with some exceptions. 3br was not. In both units stoves and cooking utensils were such that we would not want to use them. Ant problem in both units. Having paid cleaning fees, we were disappointed at the job done. BBQ pit was in same condition. Did not come on vacation to clean things in order to use them. Says garage but only one garage was usable, other one occupied with owners' son's things. So parking was a pain and one car had to be left out. Turtles did not come up on the beach to be seen, water is not blue but a dirty brown. In 2br, both bedroom ACs did not work, advised but it never got fixed. Big disappointment. Couldn't sleep with doors open to help circulate the air because of mosquitoes. Quiet on most nights but, local kids had some party in the fields next door til 3am. Can't really swim due to coral. The duplex is solid and well built, the design of the 2 br is really nice, sitting on the balconies watching the sunset, listening to the light waves, wonderful. The neighborhood is not sketchy. Just working class. Close enough to shopping and some sights but far enough away to enjoy without the crowds. A pretty long drive for the bigger sights but, again ,better than staying where it is crowded. Pura and the cleaning lady were very, very personable. Glad to have met them. But, you should be aware of some of the problems so you come into this with open eyes. Dirty house, dirty cooking, ants, not having blue waters...negatives. Being mostly quiet and somewhat secluded and a nicely built house with some aesthetics..positives. And Pura was accommodating when we asked for later check out since our flight was not until 10pm. Since there was no one coming she agreed to let us hang out there. That was nice. However, did ask for some monetary return since we had no AC for most of our stay and never got a reply. Again, was not an experience from hell by any means but if you don't have your expectations set to high it was comfortable enough, newer and the view out away from shore was relaxing. Be sure to buy some OFF for the mosquitoes. Oh, and there is a cemetery next door that has some history and that was a very interesting morning walk to take.

Beautiful property on the beach--but not clean at all
Beautiful property on the beach--but not clean at all
The place is gorgeous-located on the beach. However, the neighborhood is a bit dicey looking--graffiti on the walls behind some of the nearby homes, broken down old cars in yards-in short the neighborhood is not nearly as upscale as the house, in fact, the neighborhood looks rather run down and a bit scary. I would not walk around at night without my husband. I saw neighbors walking their dogs on the beach/nearby, so it must not be that bad. Just looks a bit scary. Our immediate neighbors, while perfectly nice, played loud music until 12-1 am some nights, smoked to the point we could smell it next door, and left beer cans strewn about the porch that were visible from our balcony the next day. Again, they seemed really nice, but we are NOT big party people and came to HI to get away from noise & wanted no part of anything that sounded like a bar-atmosphere. The carpets in the bedrooms had cigarette burns as well as the outdoor patio furniture pillows. The place itself, while truly, absolutely gorgeous, had trash in the kitchen, clothes in the dryer & drawers that were not ours, filthy moldy dishes in the dishwasher that were not ours & were there when we arrived, no usable cleaning products in sight. There's not one decent sized tub in the entire place. We did call the manager re the trash & they sent someone to take the trash out, wash the moldy dishes, but left the clothes in the drawer & the mucky scummy buildup on the sink faucet handle--see my pictures that I post on trip advisor. Also, the furniture- beds, couch and chairs were not at all comfortable. Just a futon-like mattress on a really nice looking bed, and thin (well worn) cushions on nice beachy looking chairs. While I do hope they continue to rent the place out, they really should have offered us a refund of our cleaning fee, as the place was not clean upon our arrival. There were also mosquitos, gnats, ants, and fruit flies everywhere in the house. I had to wear off to bed & keep most all of the windows closed at night just to avoid getting my mosquito bites. The off worked, but it's awful to sleep in it. I still can't get over how great it was to wake up to the sounds of ocean everywhere in the house, but they MUST clean the place up, get rid of the bugs, and not rent out the next unit to partiers if they want people to enjoy their stay. It was not really worth all that we paid. For the money, I would skip this spot and stay elsewhere next time we visit Oahu. Mahalo!
