  The views from the house were gorgeous. Every balcony offered a stunning view of the mountains. I wish we could have visited in the fall to see the leaves change. The house was very accomodating for a family with teenagers. I really enjoyed the summer room at night. Falling asleep looking at the stars made you feel like you were outdoors. I would highly recommend this house. Thank you for sharing it with us.

  Can't say enough about Mary, she let us make last minute arrangements. The place was amazing, my daughter loved the architecture. Great views and we enjoyed family time we don't normally get. The walk to the creek was peaceful. We were able to bring our family dog, who loved running down the hill. Just a great place to stay! Hope to stay there again soon. Thanks for opening your home to us Mary.

  Our family of six spent a memorable Christmas at Cool Change! This home offers spectacular views from several decks throughout the house. Pictures could never do these incredible views justice - you have to see this in person to really appreciate it! The home itself is comfortable, warm and inviting. Our teenagers loved the pool table and ping pong table located in the basement. My husband and I loved having a fireplace in the master suite and the perfect ending to each day was being able to see stars, without having to go outside. This is another must see! In addition, the neighbors are friendly and the owner is a delight to work with. We have rented homes in Georgia and North Carolina in the past, but have never enjoyed our stay more! We look forward to coming back to Cool Change in the near future and would not hesitate in recommending this home.

• Anniversary Getaway

  There are no words to describe how beautiful and amazing this place is. My husband and I went for our 20th anniversary (September 2010) and the memories will last us a life time! We were so comfortable and the views were absolutely breathtaking. No TV needed, we watched the view change by the hour. We hiked many times on the property and each time was an adventure. And we went to Vogel State park for a great picnic. Amazing scenery. The hummingbirds at Cool Change entertained us daily from the deck off the living room. And the garden tub in the master bath was a great treat for the ultimate relaxing bath. And the fireplaces were great. We will definitely go again and again. Thanks Mary and Mike for sharing your beautiful mountain home with the rest of us.

  Cool Change has a million dollar view! It was just what we were looking for. Some friends with a vacation home in the area stopped by, they said it was one of the best views they'd seen. During our time in Murphy - middle of August - it was a little warmer than the higher elevations of NC, but we were still able to sit out on the decks and enjoy the view all day and night. The stars are unbelieveable, inside and out! One clear night we set a telescope on the top deck and WOW, incredible. The house is obviously well cared for and maintained. The cleaning crew does a great job. We'll be back, we're hoping to make it up next fall to enjoy the fall colors.

  My son and I stayed the weekend here in summer 2008 to go rafting. I meant to write then but computer crashed (lost favorites, planner, etc...) and haven't til now. I just wanted to thank you for our stay and let others know how much we enjoyed your cabin-spacious and clean, great view, and especially that we could bring our dog. I know of few places that will refund the pet deposit. We also enjoyed-as did our english bulldog, walking through the woods to the creek. We would definitedly stay here again. Thanks!   WOW! Perhaps our best vacation and yet our saddest vacation ever... the best from the moment we arrived and began to appreciate for ourselves the majesty of the Smoky Mountains and the beauty of Cool Change... and the saddest the morning we had to leave. What can we say that hasn't already been said to describe the beauty of Cool Change and it surroundings? It is truly a slice of heaven. It was a vacation where we felt no need to go places and do things in order to feel as though we were making the most of our time. In fact, on the occasion when we did venture out for sights and other adventures, we found ourselves wanting to go "home" to Cool Change because the views from there were better! Being at Cool Change was simple, satisfying and refreshing in so many ways. The joy of reading a book or working on a puzzle or simply relaxing in the comfy recliner with the sound of the wind chimes ringing lightly in the background was revitalizing. We purchased a new camcorder just prior to visiting Cool Change and with it we were able to get some time lapse footage of the Smoky Mountains from the vantage point of the balcony off the Master Bedroom. It’s nothing short of amazing with a magnificent sunrise that particular day followed by a stunning display of mountain clouds rolling along throughout the day to the twilight and into darkness. Simply breathtaking! God was truly showing off that day! Since it's unlikely that Michael and Mary will part with their wonderful home, we've decided that at some point we will have to find a way to become their neighbors :-) (Actually, we're not kidding.) What a treasure, and like so many others that have visited, we can't wait to go back. Thank you Michael and Mary for sharing your beautiful home with us.

  We have just returned from our Labor Day trip to Cool Change and we wish we were still there. The home is great and the owner was very easy to deal with. The pictures give a very accurate view of the home and the great views. The kitchen is well stocked and the game room in the basement is an added bonus. Everything needed except food and drink is provided. The home is at the bottom of the drive for privacy, but there are other homes nearby with friendly owners a short walk away. Our dog enjoyed the numerous trails on the mountain and meeting other dogs on the mountain. Walking the dog was easy with virtually no vehicle traffic on the roads. We looked very hard and long for a great place to stay in the mountains. I think you will be very happy with your stay here. We always looked forward to returning back to the chalet after a busy day exploring North Carolina.
