Punaluu house description

Fare Tamanu is our 'green' vacation home close to the beach, mountains and the famed North shore. Our property borders a 40 acre farm and the Sacred Falls park. In front of the house is a large field ideal for children to play and a safe distance from the highway. It is very quiet and relaxing. A nice sandy beach is a three minute walk and is usually deserted. This is a 2 story property with approximately 3200 square feet under the roof including covered lanais. Upstairs is a large wraparound lanai which facilitates outdoor living.

We enjoyed building this unique home, and tried to be as green and energy efficient as possible. We use solar power, propane gas appliances, and on-demand gas water heater to reduce our energy footprint. There is no air conditioning, as the house is cooled by the tradewinds, and circulating fans. We used recycled windows, doors, counters, travertine, and marble which give our house an 'old/new' feel.

Our steam room is a unique feature, and the nearby wooden hot tub is a wonderful area to soak under the stars.

All bedding and pillows have hypo-allergenic encasements that block dust mites, bed bugs, and are certified for allergy and asthma protection. This house is clean.

Downstairs has some accommodation for those with disabilities i.e. bars in the bathrooms, no thresholds etc. and lots of open space. The steam room, hot tub and outside shower are conveniently located near the stairwells on the bottom floor.

Punalu'u is for those who wish to get away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. There are no major shopping centers, but there is a good grocery store about 5 minutes away. There are various small mom and pop restaurants, and convenience stores nearby.

Our kids love it as there is plenty of space to run around in. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.

The nonprofit I founded used this lovely and spacious home for our Board Retreat. We needed to meet for several days and sitting around the large table with easy wifi and a peaceful back-drop was just perfect. The kitchen, bedrooms, and bathrooms were everything we needed to keep us comfortable as we worked. And, the nearby beach made it easy to step away and enjoy a swim for a short break or two! We got together here in order to plan a proposal for a new Hawaii charter school but the home would have also been a great place for a family getaway or girls (or guys) weekend. A+ for spaciousness! Mahalo.

My growing family absolutely loved our stay at this lovely Hawaiian home. We felt completely at home and there was plenty of room for all seven of us. We liked how we were so close to such a sweet little beach and how many amenities were available to us.

The house: The listing clearly described the house and the pictures were exact. The owner was great and same-hour/same-day responsive. There was an issue that he let me know about in his voice-mail, and he ensured that his property manager had it resolved when we were there. We needed a second pack-n-play, and it was there waiting for us. The house itself is laid out to allow full-privacy to a downstairs couple, and can comfortably hold another two couples, or an average-sized family. The screened & shuttered lanai wraps around 3/4s of the house upstairs, so you can easily spend most of your days and nights lounging on the lanai, downstairs in the covered patio. The wifi works, and is dependable; and there are board games for the low-tech entertainment nights. The area: It took me a while to get comfortable here, not because of the house, but because of my TV-induced paranoia. You know, when someplace has dense foliage, and is dark & quiet outside, there MUST be some boogie man or wild animal on the loose. After I got over the paranoia, I was relaxed. It was a safe place to be, the nearby houses were really quiet and everyone was so kind. You can see the ocean from the front door; you just walk down the entry driveway (maybe 150 yards), and you're at the main street. Walk about two house-lengths down the main street, and you're on sand. This place is roughly 1 hour's drive away from Honolulu, but driving there was so beautiful. On Oahu, anywhere you drive (other than Honolulu highways) is going to be a visual delight. In fact, after spending a few days on the North Shore, once true "vacation mode" kicks in, you probably won't even care about driving to Honolulu/Waikiki. There is too much relaxation to take in up North. The cons: Keep in mind that this is a place more humid than many cities, (unless you already live in a tropical region). So many of the condiments left from the previous vacationers will be soggy/useless (e.g. salt, seasoning). You will be washing your towels every two days because there is too much moisture in the air for the towels to thoroughly dry if they're used regularly. This is a vacation home, so you're trading the attention to detail of a hotel, for the pay-it-forward karma of having so many items left from previous visitors. We didn't need to buy snorkeling gear or shower gel. After one or two days, the gnats and other bugs make their ways into the house; and the bug zapper lamp has no bulb.

Our stay was glorious!! There were 6 of us and there was plenty of room. We loved this place especially the layout of the house. The pictures and the description do not do it justice, only because there is no way to envision it without being there. The kitchen and bathrooms are designer quality. The bedrooms were good sizes and had plenty of storage space for clothing and suitcases. The location of the home was perfect for us as well. We wanted a space that was away from the crowd but still in close proximity to all that we wanted to do. If we are able to return in the future we will definitely be contacting Eesha for availability.

This house was a perfect spot for our family vacation of 5 adults. It was clean, comfortable, and very peaceful. The bird sounds were amazing and even some of the rainy evenings were amazing in the sounds. It was so wonderful to return at the end of busy day and relax. They even had some board games available. The owner was great and was always ready to help. The kids loved the sauna and hot tub after days of hiking or kayaking. It is the perfect location for a visit to the Polynesian Cultural Center and Ted's Bakery about a 1/2 hour north is a great sandwich place. We loved this little slice of heaven and would gladly recommend it to friends and family.

This house was perfect! We had so much fun staying on the North Shore. The house was comfortable, clean, new, and had a bonus jacuzzi and sauna. Eesha provided buggie boards and snorkle gear as well as fresh fruit! There is a ping pong table as well. The walk to the beach is very short. We did some snorkling there and just layed in the sun. The house has a security gate that you can close at night. The enclosed porch was amazing! We loved it. The roosters wake you up in the a.m. so bring ear plugs. We were fine with it. It was our alarm clock to get up and start our fun adventures. Everything was great, we highly recommend staying at this home. There is a seperate room and bathroom on the bottom floor (ground level) that was perfect for my Mom. She felt like it was her own space and she didn't have to come up the stairs a lot. She has bad knees. All of the beds were comfortable. Enjoy!

We wanted to try the north side of Oahu, and found this beautifully designed, very spacious and elegant home tucked into the edge of the jungle in super-sleepy Punaluu. Creative Balinese-style house-within-a-house (wraparound screened lanai made for nice breezes and tons of room), easy and well-equipped kitchen, beautiful bath, orchids and artwork giving an elegant touch throughout, plus a separate suite for my mom downstairs. Lovely gardens, with the sound of a waterfall all night long. A bit jungle-y, with ubiquitous roosters in the a.m. and geckos chirping at night, but that suited our style. A real departure from what you think Oahu will be. Not too much of a beach but nice enough, and only about a 2 minute walk down the road. Beautiful trails, easy access to everything. Bigger beaches close by. All this, AND the nicest and most helpful owners I have EVER experienced in my many years of using VRBO. Checked in periodically to see if there was anything we needed, left cookies and coffee and fruit for us, loaned us a standup paddleboard and snorkeling gear--whatever we needed. Amazing!!!

We'd about given up finding a place to stay on windward Oahu that was both acceptable and affordable when we discovered this beautiful house. Eesha welcomed us warmly and gave us a tour, and was patient and helpful with our later jet-lagged questions. The property far exceeded our hopes and expectations. We hated to leave, and would love to return. The place has a timeless feel, like a pretty little cottage surrounded by comfortable indoor/outdoor living space. We pretty much lived on the big screened lanai. The ground floor suite gave Mom and Dad some much needed privacy, and the upstairs bedrooms worked well for the two boys, and Grandma and Auntie. We enjoyed the tropical surroundings, the beautifully landscaped yard, and the lawn where the boys (age 5 and 7) played "soccer." The kitchen was modern and convenient, and the bathrooms downright elegant. We all needed a lazy, laid-back vacation, and Punalu'u was the perfect out of the way place. The beach, a short walk away, was great for boogie-boarding. For a longer beach day we drove to gorgeous, scenic Kahana Bay. Heading the other way, we explored the shops, farm stands, and shrimp trucks, turning back when we hit the North Shore crowds. Nobody seemed to miss TV, but we were grateful for good wi-fi service to carry out some urgent business. A few tips: The mosquitoes are fierce - plenty of repellents are provided - use them! The beach can be rocky and reef shoes are a good idea. For a full range of groceries, bypass Tamara's (good for Asian specialties) and look for the Foodland in Laie.

Recently spent a great week at this property. Can't recommend it highly enough. We are professional chefs and seasoned travellers and this house more than met our expectations. The pictures are accurate, though nothing can compensate for actually being there. The house and grounds are immaculately maintained. Next door is a vast fruit farm and behind you is pure Hawaiian jungle leading up to the rocky volcanic cliffs of Oahu's centre. Just a short stroll away is a very secluded beach. Honolulu is about 45 minutes to the south and Waiamea is about 30 minutes to the north. Really this is the perfect spot to explore all of Oahu from. Good shopping centre five minutes north of the house and lots of fun road-side stands and farm markets to check out. We were two couples, one with two teenage boys. Very spacious house for the six of us. Downstairs suite would suit anyone with a disability but there are still a fair number of stairs to reach the main living area. Steam shower is just awesome. Many little details have been thought out by the lovely owners and it is easy to see the pride they take in this place. If you enjoy cooking you will be most impressed with the kitchen. Gas stove, stainless steel countertops, big fridge, commercial spray arm on the sink, etc,. etc....it is a chef's paradise. We're already planning our return trip.

This is an awesome, unique, brand new home! I was worried the place might not feel brand new although it had been recently built, or that the house might just have large lanais that in reality you wouldn't want to use very much, but those fears were 100% unwarranted. The open lanai upstairs is such a part of the layout that it makes the whole house feel like a relaxing adventure. Think Swiss Family Robinson meets Ernest Hemingway. We truly loved our stay here, and have no doubt you will as well!

About the owner: We are a family of five, my wife and three kids (ages 6 and twins that are 3). We enjoy the beach and the country. We live in Honolulu and this is our get away spot.

                  Why the Owner Chose Punaluu:
We liked the area as it has an outer island feel even though it's only 45 minutes from Honolulu.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
We like the peacefulness of the area. For me it always a stress reliever to get out to Punaluu. Even the drive out there is very relaxing. Being close to the ocean, as well as having beautiful views of the mountains and surroundings is what makes this a great place to be.
