Incredible. Everybody asks us for a house RIGHT on the beach. They say, "We want to be able to see the kids playing on the beach right from the kitchen window." Now if you look (see all our rental listings) we offer some outstanding (even awesome) waterfront homes, but THIS charming home, with dramatic vaulted living room and towering stone fireplace, occupies an enviable spot right on the crystal clear waters and pristine white sandy beach that at so many have asked for...and now we have it: LakeHouse Beachfront Cottage.

LakeHouse Cottage is a Nantucket Barn-style house in a park-like setting which has three levels, all rooms looking out onto the water. The sandy beach is a happy 30 feet from the kitchen sink, and you will be closer to the water than almost any home in New England (or anywhere.) But it isn't a tacky crowded beach area, -- far from it -- it is a serene private enclave of charming cottage-homes at the end of a quiet country road conveniently near an exit to the Cape Cod to Boston Route 3.

Some of the irresistible features include a dramatic Great Room which has a 2 story stone fireplace, a newly renovated kitchen, wraparound decks, patios, balconies and a crystal clear lake (1 mile from the ocean, 2 miles from the Cape Cod Canal bikeway) with delightfully swimmable waters, a dock for parking your kayak or canoe or jet ski. This charming home gives you more amenities than 95% of other vacation homes being offered. And it is only offered MONTHLY (we've cut the price in HALF so you can afford to rent 2 or 3 or 4 weeks as our only guests for your month.)

Where can you go to find it possible to spend the day at the ocean, but in 5 minutes you arrive at your multi-level lakefront hideaway home on a sparklingly clean, spring-fed 376-acre lake so close to the ocean and the Cape Cod canal, they practically merge? Impossible? It sounds that way. But that is the unique beauty of this oceanfront/lakefront area at the northern edge of Cape Cod, a little known, overlooked spot, just north of Sandwich on the north side of the Sagamore Bridge. You'll be on the beach at LakeHouse Cottage while other Cape-bound vacationers are mired in the infamous traffic, parked on the highway. But not you.

You can grill breakfast on the lakefront deck, then mid-morning you can zip over to wade in the Atlantic, stroll out on the pristine sandbars, beachcomb for sea stars and hermit crabs and sand dollars. Pop home for lunch at your lakefront where from the kitchen sink, great room, many decks and balconies and each of 4 bedrooms all take in the lake and beach view.

With panoramic water views, The cheerful, vaulted great room (on the middle level) features a 20 foot stone fireplace with sit-upon hearth, rustic beams, with a wrap-around tree-shaded deck with water views in three directions. A multil-level spiral staircase leads up to the master bedroom which has its own balcony overlooking the water. (oh, those sunsets...)

Another three bedrooms (and full bath, and laundry room) on the beach level, each have their own doors out onto the brick patio, garden, and lawn which is 6 long strides to the water and sandy beach.

LakeHouse is tastefully decorated in appealing New England style. Hardwood floors, 12-over-12 cottage windows, antique cabinets, maple countertops, new appliances (gas cooktop, convection oven, dishwasher, side-by side refrigerator) antique touches and modern amenities make this a lovable vacation home. A large antique pine table is perfect for laying out your seafood extravaganza, or setting up your laptops to check you email with our complimentary WiFi. Comfortable beds (currently 2 kings, one double, and a bunk room with bunkbed and room for cots.) There is an outdoor shower on the brick patio. And a fire pit on the patio for memorable nights watching the starlight, moonlight twinkle on the water a few feet away, while you toast marshmallows in the fire.

For outdoor fun, swim, float, kayak in the spring fed waters of the lake, bike along the nearby Cape Cod Canal, where there is a seven-mile, level bike path and easy parking for your car. (Several shops rent bikes by the day or week.)

Plymouth Rock, the Mayflower, and facinating Plymouth Plantation, (which is like a trip in a time machine) are 10 miles north where whale watching boats and deep sea fishing cruises leave right from Plymouth Harbor. And don't forget that Plymouth, "America's Home Town" has an abundance of shops, multi-dealer antique malls, boutiques, souvenir shops, and museums.

The area has many fine golf courses and has historic homes - some of which date to the 1600s and can be toured. Play a round of golf at nearby top-ranked Rees-Jones designed course, in The Pine Hills. Crosswinds, Atlantic and other golf courses might tempt you to hang up your inner tube.

And there is nothing quite like being oceanfront when the July Fourth fireworks can be viewed across the water. In fact, neighbors seem to spare no expense to celebrate the 3rd, 4th and 5th of July, where you can see fireworks all around you as lakefront owners, and oceanfront homes enjoy campfires and clambakes.

Beach association bylaw requests multi-week rentals, please call or email for details.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

To me, creating the perfect waterfront getaway home is an art form. My lifelong career had been in designing publications, and later creating magazine illustrations (google "robin jareaux") and painting expressionistic works on canvas. When I first decided to rent my weekend home so I could renovate an incredible but dilapidated cottage (which became, at great expense, "Timberframe Cottage") I did not know this would become my work and my passion. Working in 2d was fun and rewarding, but my new ART is creating vacation homes that themselves are 'works of art.' My goal with my homes, as with my art before, is to create a setting that exceeds your expectations, and in turn, your patronage lets me continue my art form a few more years. Please read the guest comments to see the generous and enthusiastic compliments we've received. Finding just the right furnishings, using classic Nantucket decor, using materials such as massive beams, barnwood ceilings, wide pine floors, RL sheets, antique cabinets, and creating gardens overflowing with roses and peonies, clematis, daylilies, gigantic buried stepping stones, blueberries, raspberries, foxgloves (can you tell it is June as I write this?) expanses of mahogany countertop, fine appliances, stone fireplaces, stained glass, with views that will take your breath away. Please look at "all my rental listings" to see my portfolio art in the form of unique and extravagant vacation getaways. It is a labor of love... for you.

We only began renting LakeHouse Cottage a year ago, and at that time did not have our online guestbook set up, nor did we put a paper bound guestbook at the house (we were just too busy making the homes as nice as possible and didn't make time for this helpful promotional amenity. We are grateful to Claudia Fahrner from Heidelberg who kindly requested we create a guestbook (at long last) so that she could post her comments. Thank you Claudia! Here it is...

    • The LakeHouse was the perfect accomodation for our family of 4 generations - from 1 to 81! Being right on the lake, with the park like lawn, and even a hammock, was wonderful for the small children - and the adults who were trying to keep up with them. Robin and John are truly the King and Queen of New England hospitality - they answered every question, provided directions, and were immediately responsive to every need. LakeHouse felt like our own home - except with better appliances - completely comfortable, and very relaxing. We will definitely contact them when we next come to Cape Cod. Thank you for maintaining such high standards in your properties. You are the best!
