Rare rental, quintessential, classic and charming seaside cottage with a newer 140 ft pier, floating dock and a deep water mooring..Central Air, all amenities, screened and open porches.Fish or sunbath on the dock, shellfish on the property!
The beautiful landscaping is framed by spectacular unobstructed and panoramic views of the Bay, the shoreline from Warwick to Portsmouth, and views of Providence and the Mount Hope Bridge. The scenery on the Bay is forever changing with weather systems passing through, sailboats, ships, wildlife, cloud formations, the stars, and sunsets and sunrises. There is a private beach right out front where you can fish, clam or sunbath. Prudence Island is a quiet respite from the craziness of other summer destinations as there are no restaurants or bars. If you want those, you can take the ferry or your own boat to Bristol, Newport, Providence or any of the shoreline areas. When you have had enough, you can leave it all behind and come home to peace and quiet and the serene views of this beautiful cottage.
Decorated with antiques and artwork, the views inside are comforting as well. The entire house inside and out was repainted and updated in 2010. The house is well stocked with high quality cookware, spices, paper goods, and condiments. All you need to bring is your food and other provisions. There are two small grocery stores on the island for the basics.
There are two open decks and a large covered porch with a dining area and fans, a hammock, wicker and a Weber gas grill. There is a large yard with gardens and stonewalls, an outdoor stone patio, and an outdoor shower. Across the street is your beach (water shoes needed) with great swimming, clamming, fishing or sunbathing. Avery large level grassed private rear yard for crochet, badmitten, etc.Relax and fish off your own dock. A sandy beach is a short bike ride or drive away. There are two kayaks which can be used with an additional security deposit.
Use of the dock should only be by experienced boaters. The dock must only be used for loading, unloading, and short stays.
Prudence is a an incredible place for nature lovers and explorers. It's the way life used to be. The South End is a preserve with miles of trails, a nature center, a beach, abandoned bunkers leftover from WW11 and much beautiful scenery. Throughout the summer there are a number of old fashioned activities like the Fireman's Fair and the Farnum Farm Ice Cream Social. Everyone will wave to you and you'll wonder why. It will be just because you are on Prudence. Prudence Island is an unusual place where time seems to stand still, you'll forget the date or the day of the week, you'll sleep well, meet many characters, renew your relationships with family and Mother Nature, and probably discover some new things about yourself..

I stayed at this beautiful cottage last summer with my sisters and we had one of the most enjoyable weeks of our lives. Prudence Island is a little piece of heaven. The cottage is so beautiful and tastefully decorated, we felt so at home. The pictures of the house and property, truly do not do it justice. When you wake up and look out the windows or go out on the porch, the view is breathtaking. The gardens are amazing and the property itself is so well kept. Everyday there is a new adventure. We discovered little hidden away beaches where we were literally the only ones on the beach. We became expert clam diggers and we all enjoyed the sweetest clams I have ever tasted. The owner is a sweetheart and she provides everything you will need for a comfortable stay. If you are looking to get away from the bustling summer crowds, this is the place. Everyone on the island is so friendly and helpful. I absolutely loved it. I would highly recommend this vacation home for families with children, girlfriends or sister reunions, couples wanting a romantic getaway. It's just beautiful. We took the ferry back to the mainland a couple of times for shopping and dinners. There are excellent restaurants and shops, steps from the landing. I look forward to the next time I can visit Prudence Island and I would love to stay here again!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+.

Year Purchased: 1999
About the owner: I am an artist and have always dreamed of owning a seaside cottage with stonewalls and gardens. I have done many additions and renovations since I bought it, and I am very happy with the way it has evolved. The cottage is an expression of myself as an antique collector and artist. This picture was taken at my daughter's wedding which was held right on the bluff in front of the house. The weather was perfect, the stars were bright and the harvest moon rose up behind the bridge. It was perfect, and perfectly Prudence Island.
Why the Owner Chose Prudence Island:
I bought this house because Prudence Island is so unique and pristine. I was living outside of New York City when I purchased this property, and I was looking for the antithesis, and a place to truly relax and get away from it all..When I bought the cottage it was a mere bungalow and through the years I have improved it with updates and additions.
