Built as a modern replica of a sugar mill from island plantation days long past, Sugar Mill showcases creative architecture with a contemporary twist. Constructed of stone and offering three levels, it boasts two swimming pools on two levels overlooking blue vistas of Savannah Bay, Little Dix Bay and Long Bay. The Mill's middle floor comprises Sugar Mill's Garden Suite, and above, the Rooftop Suite on the topmost floor. Each Suite has its own private pool. Both Suites are compact and charming one-bedrooms, each of which feature a pleasing floorplan, central air-conditioning, a king bed dressed in fine linens and a wonderfully-equipped gourmet kitchen with a wide array of chef's tools and cookware for those who love to cook.(And with advance notice, Sugar Mill Villa can conveniently be provisioned with your list of groceries for the day you arrive, so you can start your relaxation the moment you walk in the door - please inquire).
Through curtained french doors, Garden Suite's stunning blue pool, inlaid with a leaping tile dolphin, is set in a flagstone garden terrace where sink-into cushioned chairs and chaises await, and around the outside curve of the Sugar Mill is another, larger flagstone terrace and shaded pavilion set with dining table, more cushioned armchairs and a big gas grill for outdoor island living.
Up in the Rooftop Suite, through french doors, is a private slate-tiled balcony with cushioned chairs, wonderful for watching sunsets. Just outside, a stone staircase curves up to Sugar Mill Villa's topmost level, the Rooftop, where your second private pool and terrace overlooks the sea, blue skies and green islands in the distance. The Rooftop terrace offers tables, a sofa, cushioned chairs and chaise lounges, plus a second big gas grill for poolside cookouts with sea views and cool tradewinds. Cool slate floors add a rich look, lighting is well done inside and out, and interesting decorative items collected on Caribbean travels add a lighthearted flair to the interiors.
Sugar Mill Villa is surrounded by flowering tropical gardens set amongst boulders, and enjoys memorable ocean views. Behind the Sugar Mill for your exploration are 19th-century historic stone ruins of Nail Bay's old sugar plantation, and although secluded on a private hillside, Nail Bay's office, restaurant and bar are but a short walk away. You could explore The Baths- huge boulders provide a myriad of rock pools, secret beaches, and trails. Or spend the morning at a hillside restaurant cooled by gentle breezes while you watch the ferries cross the North Sound far below. Dramatic slopes plunge from Gorda Peak to the turquoise waters below.
