This former Ship Captain's waterfront home known as the Stinson Mansion is perfect for family reunions and is large enough to comfortably accommodate 18-20 people. Perfect destination for a crowd free escape.

Located in Prospect Harbor, Maine, we are approximately 45 minutes North of Bar Harbor. Our part of Maine is known as "Downeast," a reference that dates back to the shipping industry of the 18th and 19th centuries when Maine was a shipping capital. When schooners sailed from Boston to ports in Maine, they traveled to the east. They also sailed downwind (with the wind at their backs). This led to the expression "Downeast."

Our home is just across the street from the pink granite-lined harbor and has a view of Prospect Harbor, its lighthouse, and lobster boats. Public swimming is only eight minutes away at Jones Pond. The closest beach is Sand Cove, which is a bicycle ride away. The 2366-acre Schoodic Peninsula section of Acadia National Park is only a ten-minute drive and offers exceptional views of rocky coastline. This is a great spot for picnics or you can bike the 12 miles of rocky coastline!

Nine spacious bedrooms with four expansive waterview suites with balconies. Large, first-floor kitchen plus a second kitchen on the third floor.

Three dining rooms. Three full baths and two half baths. First-floor sunroom has views of the harbor and its lighthouse and lobster boats. Family room has 50" TV with DirectTV satellite and combo VHS/DVD player, two large sofas with matching oversized chair, wingback chairs in front of the fire place and game table with two chairs. Wifi DSL Broadband Wireless internet access. New for 2009 - Nintendo Wii game system w/4 controllers & games. Portable crib and (2) highchairs, as well as a standard crib. Hardwood floors and ceramic tile are throughout. Large, finished, tiled basement with air hockey, pool table, board games and lots of space for the kids to play.

All three floors have porches overlooking Prospect Harbor and its lighthouse. Thirty-six acres of land in back of the property provides trails for hiking.

This 6500-square-foot house rents quickly for family reunions, corporate gatherings, etc., so make your plans for a great Maine vacation now!

Downeast Maine Family Reunion Home Lighthouse Views - Wifi

Year Purchased: 1988

Why the Owner Chose Prospect Harbor

As a boy Stephen spent a summer working & managing property on one of Maine's islands. It was a very special summer that he just couldn't get off his mind as an adult. In the late 1980's, Stephen decided it was time to finally buy his own slice of Maine. He started at the top of Maine and worked his way down to find that perfect combination of a small village, coastal land and uncrowded bliss. We're glad that he chose Prospect Harbor & Downeast Maine!

The Unique Benefits at this house

There's just nothing like sitting on the front porch with a nice breeze from the Harbor and watching the lobster boats bring in their catch. It's a nice bonus that I can walk right across the street and purchase lobster fresh of the boat! The kitchen is well stocked because we love to cook. I've also been able to host a few reunions with classmates from high school & college. The house is perfect for large gatherings and everyone has their own space if they want some quiet time to read a book or catch up on work, etc.

Owner's Map of Prospect Harbor

My fiance, Stephen Flood, has been very fortunate to enjoy a long career as a small business owner of an antiques auction company. Stephen also dabbled in politics and served a 4 year term as County Controller. He's also owned & managed vacation rental homes at the New Jersey Shore & Downeast Maine. Stephen is a 3 year stroke survivor & as his fiance I am now responsible for managing & booking the property. We enjoy traveling, especially to Maine, searching for antiques and spending time with our 2 year old Shih Tzu puppy. Thank you for considering the Stinson Mansion! Best Regards, Heather Paulhamus
