Located in Prospect Harbor, Maine, we are approximately 35 minutes North from Bar Harbor. Our part of Maine is known as "Downeast," a reference that dates back to the shipping industry of the 18th and 19th centuries when Maine was a shipping capital. When schooners sailed from Boston to ports in Maine, they traveled to the east. They also sailed downwind (with the wind at their backs). This led to the expression "Downeast."
Our home is just across the street from the pink granite-lined harbor and has a view of Prospect Harbor, its lighthouse, and lobster boats. Public swimming is only eight minutes away at Jones Pond. The closest beach is Sand Cove, which is a bicycle ride away. The 2366-acre Schoodic Peninsula section of Acadia National Park is only a ten-minute drive and offers exceptional views of rocky coastline. This is a great spot for picnics or you can bike the 12 miles of rocky coastline!
Nine spacious bedrooms with four expansive waterview suites with balconies. Large, first-floor kitchen plus a second kitchen on the third floor.
Three dining rooms. Three full baths and two half baths. First-floor sunroom has views of the harbor and its lighthouse and lobster boats. Family room has 50" TV with DirectTV satellite and combo VHS/DVD player, two large sofas with matching oversized chair, wingback chairs in front of the fire place and game table with two chairs. Wifi DSL Broadband Wireless internet access. New for 2009 - Nintendo Wii game system w/4 controllers & games. Portable crib and (2) highchairs, as well as a standard crib. All three floors have porches overlooking Prospect Harbor and its lighthouse. Thirty-six acres of land in back of the property provides trails for hiking.

just wanted to write you a note to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay at the stinson mansion last week. the house was lovely and so very comfortable. there was plenty of room for all 15 of us. in particular, the women would like to commend you for keeping such a well-stocked, fully equipped kitchen; it certainly was the hub of activity all week long. as for the rest of the house, there was so much room for the kids to play and the adults to relax. the bedrooms were spacious, yet felt cozy and inviting, and we loved the myriad of paintings on the walls, each of us finding our favorite during the week. the view of the harbor and the lighthouse was lovely, and the smell of the salt air, refreshing. the on-line virtual tour of the home doesn't do it justice. my sisters enjoyed searching for seaglass across the street each moning, and came home with a bucket-full each. we also were delighted to meet Dallas, and he managed to hook us up with some of the best lobsters ever! we enjoyed a campfire and lobster bake at frazer point at schoodic on wednesday, and our other days were spent kayaking, biking, fishing, swimming, shopping, hiking, whale-watching (not for the faint-hearted, or weak-stomached) watching the sun set on cadillac, enjoying pop-overs and tea at jordan pond, touring lighthouses, tide-pooling, star gazing at sand beach in acadia, meeting some incredibly friendly Mainers, and marveling at God's beauty all around us. thanks so much for your part in making it happen for all of us. it is a vacation we won't soon forget.
