Our stay at the Willow Cottage was wonderful! The trip included my elderly parents, brothers, nephew, my husband and our children. There was plenty of room for six adults and three children to sleep on the comfortable loft pull out beds. The home was beautifully decorated and my parents were able to easily get around the house. The river, ponds and game pavilion provided endless entertainment for adults and children alike. Even with another cottage next door, we felt we had the whole place to ourselves. We caught lots of fish and enjoyed family dinners cooked in the gourmet kitchen. My little boy said "this is a wonderful dream." Can't wait to go back!Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway.

There were 6 of us in the Willow Cottage, and we were quite comfortable. Everything was very clean, and the beds were extremely comfortable. The outdoor porch with fireplace was our favorite spot. We also enjoyed the nice kitchen and cooked quite a few meals. The grounds were spectacular, and I really appreciated the seating that was available across the areas, including the hammock by the river and the various chairs in scenic spots. We enjoyed the animals (turkeys, geese, deer, prairie dogs) and the general quiet and peace of the area. We will definitely be back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Oh my goodness! This place is so, so beautiful! We spent the week after Christmas and New Years with our kids and had so much fun. If you like to fish.....go to the trout pond, put a piece of bread in your mouth, get it a little moist and put it on a small hook. Use a bobber adn when it goes under, pull on your pole and you can catch all of the fish you need. Cook them with cheese grits and..........delicious!!Did you find this review helpful? Our family of 9 had a wonderful time at The Willow Cottage. The home has beautiful details to the decor and was very clean. What a fun property to roam about with adults and/or children. Our kids thoroughly enjoyed the sandbox that was on site, running down to the covered, outdoor building down by the river and playing ping pong, creating play doh art, drawing with sidewalk chalk, etc. The river was beautiful! Our boys caught 5 trout and 1 perch in the stocked pond and we cooked them up for dinner. We also enjoyed playing golf at the nearby golf course. As listed, the Laurel Cottage is very close in proximity to the Willow, but because of the spacious surrounding area, you still have a private feel about you, and the outdoor seating areas are not facing the neighboring cottages, so that was nice. We would enjoy coming back and renting BOTH cottages at the same time with other family members. Thank you, Melba, for accommodating our family.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We are always looking for a great spot to have a once a year week long family vacation. I started looking over a year ago in various areas. We decided on the Willow Lodge with all it had to offer. We were not disappointed at all. Everything was as explained in the advertisement. We have rented many homes over the passed years and this was the cleanest and best stocked we have ever stayed in. My grand daughter and I fished every day and she caught more fish than I did. The water and the land with the mountains was the frosting on the cake. We would highly recommend this as a vacation site for your stay.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had the best time! We couldn't believe the property was every bit as beautiful as the photos in the listing. And we took even more beautiful ones. The cottage was decorated so very nicely and was very clean. The caretakers quickly met us to tell us everything we would need to know. Our best and happiest photos were taken at the trout pond where we had a blast catching the biggest trout any of us had ever caught. We only left the property twice...once to get groceries and once to visit Biltmore. We enjoyed the fireplace on the covered porch the day it rained...and caught more trout...in the rain. We really didn't spend enough time there.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our family vacationed here for spring break the first week of March (2012), and it was the most beautiful home we have ever stayed in through VRBO. We fished in the ponds, hiked trails on Cold Mountain and roasted marshmallows every night! Our children really enjoyed catching ten pound Rainbow Trout! We cannot wait to come back this summer when the weather is warmer to enjoy this amazing location all over again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our Cold Mountain visit. We ranged in age from 3 to 70 and all had a wonderful time. This beautiful retreat fully met and exceeded our expectations. We loved playing in the creek, fishing in the pond, hiking the trails, picking vegetables from the garden, and so much more. This was our second visit. Now we have experienced it in winter and summer. Both were great.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

Our family of five loved staying at the Willow. Wading in the river, fishing, picking vegetables and raspberries, making s'mores at night- there was so much to do. There were great hiking trails and waterfalls nearby. We enjoyed Asheville and Waynesville. And all this in one of the most beautiful houses I have ever been in. Every detail was stunning. The architecture and the design. The hosts were charming and helpful and the house had every possible amenity. We can't wait to come back.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Willow cottage is truly a well built, beautifully crafted property. If you appreciate high quality construction, you will really enjoy staying here (I'm an architect, and really notice these things). No detail was overlooked - from the custom front door, to the faucets, to the skim coat of plaster on the walls. The outdoor fireplace is lovely, and the owner could not possibly be nicer or more helpful.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks for the architect's perspective...we built the cottages hoping that there would be enough people out there looking for beauty and quality on an extraordinary property in one of the Nation's most beautiful regions...it's so exciting to see guests like you making family lifelong memories on the stage that we helped set. Thanks again...we look forward to seeing you soon! Wilton

The cottage was extremely comfortable, well-built, well-maintained, well-equipped and clean. Quality construction and furnishings. The owner comes to visit upon arrival, shows large property with a big bonfire area, an outdoor fireplace on the back covered porch (which we used extensively), nice recreational equipment and fishing equipment, a well-stocked trout pond, fields for playing baseball, whiffleball, an indoor pavilion with a ping pong table, etc., the owner prepares a treasure hunt for little kids to find a chest with candy in it. You could never leave the property and have a wonderful time. Beds and bathrooms are very comfortable and nice. The ktichen is very nice, with high-end appliances. The place is thoroughly cleaned and maintained. The location is great for hiking and exploring. A good 30 min from Asheville.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.
Owner response: We really enjoyed having you guys as our guests and meeting your wonderful family. Best, Wilton

My extended family and I chose the cottage based on it's location and description of the facilities. We found the cottage and surrounding estate to surpass our expectations! The owners went out of their way to make us feel welcome and accommodate our needs. We arrived at the cottage to find a table set with labeled place settings, freshly baked muffins at the coffee bar, and immaculately kept grounds and cottage. The cottage itself is simply beautiful; the pictures do not do it justice. Each of the rooms is decorated tastefully, and linens/towels are top of the line. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to make meals at home, as well as a separate coffee bar area with gourmet teas and coffees. The back porch has an outdoor stone fireplace/sitting area, grill, and dining table overlooking the back lawn. We enjoyed eating outdoors on the patio while our children played in the yard. Our children also had a great time hiking, playing ball/outdoor games in the huge yard, fishing in the stocked pond (my daughter caught her first fish!), making s'mores in the riverside firepit, and lounging in the riverside rocking chairs among other things. At night, we enjoyed the outdoor fireplace on the back porch of the cottage as well as watching movies using the netflix movie service they provided. The owners were very attentive and helpful; they answered any questions we had during our stay promptly and checked in with us periodically to make sure we had everything we needed. I would highly recommend this cottage for anyone looking for a vacation in a private, country setting. We found it to be one of the best family vacation spots we have visited to date.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks so much for choosing The Willow Cottage! I know that there are a lot of choices out there and we're grateful we had the opportunity to serve your wonderful family. All the best, Wilton

Of all the mountain vacation homes that we have rented, the Willow Cottage was the finest. There was personal attention given to every detail: firewood laid for us in the fireplaces and the outdoor firepit, fishing poles and a tackle box waiting for us by the cottage door, instructions on how to use the modern appliances in the kitchen, and even a personal welcome by the owners. The cottage was immaculate and filled with beautiful towels and linens, treasured antiques, and luxurious beds and baths. There are trails and hills and open spaces to explore on the property and the town of Waynesville is just minutes away for dining and shopping. According to our children and grandchildren, the Willow Cottage week-end was one of the best gifts we could have given them. We give this property five stars and more.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks for your kind words; we are so pleased to know that the property was a blessing to you and your family. We look forward to seeing you in 2011! Wilton

The photos of Willow Cottage and grounds cannot compare to the meticulous construction and decorative detail and rustic beauty that one actually experiences during a stay there. One enters another world of high ceilings, gracious fabrics and post card vignettes appearing through every generous window. For those who like privacy and acres to hike and explore, this is a paradise complete with rocky, cascading river winding through, and a picture perfect fishing pond. The great room is just what is needed for the family who wants to cook, eat, watch TV and enjoy the fire at the same time. The grandchildren were charmed by having their own special sleeping nook at the base of a large starry window. The house was warm and cozy even through the temperature outside stayed well below freezing. None of us wanted to leave. Even our daughter who is a real city girl was enchanted. We felt well cared for as workers appeared to clear snow and ice from the walks and road so that we could still enjoy our yearly pilgrimage to the Grove Park Inn in Asheville. The owners seemed to take delight in making our holiday special for us. We are having a photo book made of our Magical Cold Mountain Christmas, so obviously we hope we can return next year!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
