A fantastic deck overlooking the lake, but read on...

The 200ft of private beach is unapproachable boulders, not sand. Accessed only by way of 40-50 steep steps. Getting in/out was tricky with waves crashing against the bottom step. Decks were the highlight. Beach deck was lovely, but did not provide adequate chairs for 8, only 4. Breakfast deck was nice & the only table for sharing a meal. Inside table only had 4 chairs & no kitchen seating. Many rules prohibited use of the grassy area for family activity. BBQ grill located inconveniently in the front of the house not near kitchen or decks. Once you turn your attentions inside, be advised. Space is much less than described. 3 BR? If you count the pull-out sofa in a passthru room (little AC). So BRs are the pass thru rm & 2 other BRs on the main floor. 4 adts to share 1 rm (2 adts on a full sofa bed). The 2nd fl in the pictures-off limits to renters. Renters use the main flr & basement where the sauna & 2nd bathroom are. The LR was nice, but not comfortable for 8. Many house rules & especially prohibiting moving furniture, so how could 8 renters enjoy a movie together? Reading lamps or other comforts for the BRs? None to be found. Burned out overhead light bulbs, many. 300-thread ct Egyptian cotton linens? No way. In fact, the beds, which we had to make upon arvl/strip upon dept, had well worn linens, some too stained, to use. Not enough bath towels & wash cloths to allow everyone his/her own especially since some needed to be diverted for kitchen use. Incredible views from all rooms? Not true. In fact one of the BR has a view of the neighbor’s house a few feet away on one side, & a window opening into a (very hot) add-on shed on the other. (Shed is that windowed room you see on the right in the back) What about the kitchen/dining area? Better appointed than much of the rest of the house, with plenty of plates/glasses/silverware but also included 3 can openers, none of which worked, & not enough room to comfortably sit 7 at the dining table. Cabinets were filled with the owner’s property so all of the week’s groceries had to be piled on the counter netting very little space. Fortunately there’s a built-in supply of filtered water in the kitchen because the water straight from the tap is so foul tasting as to be undrinkable. Security deposit? Well that could take on a # of different meanings, so beware. Did we have a good time, yes. Could it have been better if the home lived up to the listing? Absolutely.
Owner response:Haven't encountered anything close to such disrespect to the property ever. Check out rules were totally ignored and property left unsecured - garage doors left wide open, windows unlocked and open..... I'm pretty sure they don't treat their home just the same way. Right after they left, I got a thank you email from them, saying that they had a wonderful time and the property was great; they had absolutely no complaints. Though when they were advised that the part of security deposit will be withheld for the damage, they got the nerve to threaten me that they are going to post a bad review. I guess, it doesn't matter how carefully you select to whom you rent, you still running a chance to deal with ignorant and disrespectful people.
