Ariane, The girls and I had a fabulous time staying in your beautiful home. The period details fascinated us as well as your taste in art. We sunned ourselves on the brick patio and got a much needed dose of vitamin D and a bit of color on our pale faces. Matter of fact the salesgirl at the kitchen shop in the center wanted to know where we had been to catch the rays. We talked, laughed, and played board games in front of the wood burning stove both evenings. The beds were extremely comfortable and your sheets were luxurious. Thank you for your attention to detail that made us feel pampered and special. Georgeann and friendsDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Just back from spending our Thanksgiving at this wonderful property. It has everything you need. Very well appointed, comfy beds and lots of space. The view is spectacular. Close to town and shopping. Beautiful place to relax and still enjoy all Manchester and the area has to offer. Highly recommend the property. Hoping it is available for Thanksgiving next year.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Over the River and through the woods is exactly how you get to our home, and I'm very pleased your Thanksgiving was comfortable, easy, and so memorable you wish to return next year. We will be most happy to welcome you back.

This is an ideal home for a grandparent to spend time with family. The main floor, with an open kitchen and living area, is a wonderful place to socialize. The bedrooms and associated bathrooms are charming, well appointed, and luxurious. The home is well designed in the way the rooms and floors are situated relative to one another. The home has everything you should need and it is centrally located in a scenic and private location. Restaurants, shopping and the outdoors are close by. The home has a natural simplicity to it and is family friendly. Thank you Ariana and Veronica.Owner response: It's the best, spending time with grandchildren. And we agree, our home is ideal for that special time of hanging out with family. Thank you for your wonderful review of your stay on River Road.

We just returned from our second vacation in this home and the children are already asking when we can go back. This is a wonderful family home . We were thrilled with the addition of herbs and vegetables to the flower garden which we were able to enjoy while there: mint for mojitos, rhubarb for a compote, stuffed zucchini blossoms, etc... The garden is a gem, just like the rest of the house. I appreciated that Ariane remembered my small children and had the crib, booster seat and high chairs ready when we arrived. It is so nice not having to lug up any equipment for the children!Owner response: Wonderful to have you and your family back. I'm so pleased the garden was a success, we'll make a point of continuing this new summer enhancement. We are looking forward to your next visit.

This home was everything we could have needed and more. We stayed here over Memorial Day weekend 2012. The house was clean, kid friendly, super close to town and overlooks an enormous field where the kids can run and run and run!! The kitchen was stocked with more than we expected and there were so many toys to keep the kids busy too. The house is very large with lots of areas to hang out solo or gather up with a big group. We especially loved the outdoor screened room which was perfect for lounging in the afternoons. If we ever come back to Manchester, we won't be staying anywhere else!Owner response: Thank you so much for the wonderful review of your visit in our home. You had such beautiful weather for your weekend, I'm pleased you could enjoy the screened cottage. The vegetables will be coming in later this summer, come back and enjoy.

Hi Ariane. I can't express how pleased we are with your home and level of service. Simplicity is amazing. Thank you very much for the bottle of wine. I think we cracked that open within the first 30 minutes! Veronica stopped by last night. She is very pleasant and helpful. We plan to head out into the fresh snow today! Michael Hi Ariane. Our stay was fantastic. Your home will certainly be at the top of our list when we plan our next visit to Manchester. Thanks again, Michael Sent from my iPadDid you find this review helpful? I surprised my family ( my husband and our three adult children) with an unforgettable Christmas getaway at Ariane's lovely country home. It really was everything we could have dreamed of and more! The house is a 5 star accommodation with every amenity imaginable. The location is prime real estate perched beautifully adjacent to the Hildene Meadow. We awoke Christmas morning to a picturesque Vermont scene- snowflakes gently falling and a warm cozy fire in the family room. Perfection! Our family vote is a resounding "yes"- let's do it again in 2012!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you Ariane. You're a pro! P. S. Thank you too to your charming housekeeper, Veronica, for making those adorable gingerbread ornaments on the Christmas tree. We took one home as a keepsake!!!!!!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: I did not realize your Christmas get-away was a surprise, what a wonderful gift for your family. We hope you will return again next year for Christmas on River Road, and we hope to make it just as memorable. Thank you.

A Favorite Place

We've developed a favorite place for our getaway vacations right here. We come every year, and sometimes twice or three times and at different seasons. The house has a particular warmth and charm we simply can't find elsewhere, and its location is sublime, perched high up looking over historic Hildene Meadow. Just this December we came up for a special reason ... my wedding. The house served as an anchor for immediate family during the week-long festivities, and it worked perfectly in that regard. And after all the 90+ guests left after the wedding, it jumped right back to being that cozy getaway we know and love for just the eight of our immediate family. During the week there was no time for boredom ... not just because of the wedding plans, but everyone splitting off to pursue their own favorite pastimes, whether it be hiking, outlet shopping, or visiting special places within an hour drive from the house. Once again, we were impressed by the amazing cleanliness, support services (the housekeeper, Veronica, is the world's best baby sitter), and all the household items in place that you need and expect. The house has great Internet connectivity, so the workaholics among us were relieved to be able to sneak away and get our projects completed in the quiet and coziness of the house's study. My entire family has come to love River Road as our second home. I really suggest you try it, as it could easily become the same for you. Recommended for: Any family looking to come together and have fun in a getaway setting with something for everybody.Owner response: A favorite guest and always welcome. Thanks again for your wonderful review.

Our family of 5 of enjoyed a wonderful week at this beautiful home between Christmas and New Years. We have rented homes in the Manchester Vt area for the past 5 years and this is our favorite. The home was impeccably clean, the kitchen had everything we needed, the beds comfortable and bathrooms high end and well stocked with products as well as towels. The owner was very easy to work with. Will absolutely return.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you Joan for your review, we look forward to welcoming you back during any season.

Year Purchased: 2003
About the owner: This house was originally purchased to be part of the inventory for a high end vacation home club. It was furnished, outfitted, and detailed with this purpose in mind. The business was ultimately sold, but we retained the property. Our family has enjoyed many gatherings at this wonderful home, as have numerous guests. We welcome you to also enjoy a special experience in a home away from home.
Why the Owner Chose Manchester Center:
We sought a house in a location that had the feel of being among the mountains and meadows of Vermont, but not isolated. We are minutes away from everything, great restaurants, shopping, art galleries, antiquing, spas, and all the sports associated with the Vermont seasons.
