Our flat is in Highgate, one of London's most desirable areas. Just fifteen minutes from Central London, the village has a genuine 19th century feel and remains relatively unchanged since Hogarth, Coleridge, Carlyle and Dickens came here. Highgate benefits from over 800 acres of Hampstead Heath and enjoys magnificent views of London.
Picturesque lanes and pretty Georgian cottages abound, as do historic pubs where the ancient ceremony of "Swearing on the Horns" is still carried out. Highgate also boasts London's largest private residence after Buckingham Palace. Baroness Burdett Coutts, John Betjeman, Oliver Cromwell, Nell Gwyn, Dick Whittington, Rod Stewart, George Michael, Annie Lennox, and Sting are just a few of the former and current residents of this wonderful village. If you’re up for something different, take a tour of Highgate Cemetery, a vast Victorian necropolis where Dickens, George Eliot, Karl Marx and an array of other illustrious Londoners now rest. Feel like a stroll (or run) through the forest? The entrance to Highgate Wood is just a block from the flat. Walking/jogging paths traverse 70 lovingly preserved acres of oak, hornbeam and holly wood that were originally part of the Ancient Forest of Middlesex which covered much of London, Hertfordshire and Essex. 70 different species of bird have been recorded here, alongside foxes, grey squirrels, and butterflies. There are also football and cricket fields, a children’s playground, a café and an information centre.
Our top-floor (two flights of stairs up) studio flat is on a lovely, quiet street of restored Edwardian homes. Transport links are excellent; the tube is less than five-minute walk and buses even closer. Highgate Village is an easy walk and quaint shops with food and supplies are just around the corner.
The flat has a double bed and a double futon plus full kitchen and bath. It's ideal for 2 people (4 is OK if you're very close - it's cozy!). Monthly rates are available on request. |
