Lake June Cottage, Excellent Dock, Most Reviews, Hot Tub, Rope Swing

There's a reason our property has the most reviews of any other in Lake Placid...it's the most fun! Truly an 'old style' lake house with one of the best docks on the best lake in Highlands County. From here you have a long, unobstructed view of the entire lake, including the stunning sunsets. Beautiful 3600 acre Lake June has the highest water quality and white sand bottom.
In May of 2012 we had a 50' white sand beach. However, with the summer monsoons, as of Dec. 30 we now have water all the way up to the sea wall. Either way, there's lots of water and/or beach for all your vacation needs.
The home is not fancy, but is clean, cozy, comfortable, and is one of the best values on the lake. You could pay more, but why? Sure, you can rent a fancier home, but if you're staying on the water, isn't the dock and the view really what it's all about? It's hard to beat this property if that's what is important to you.
Please click on the 'view calendar' icon on the home page to see if the dates you are interested in are available.
I was flattered to see that some of the other property owners in Lake Placid have even copied the exact description of our property in order to promote their own on vrbo. It reminds me of the old saying 'Imitation is the greatest form of flattery.' But my response to that, and question for you, a potential visitor to our property, is 'why go with an imitation?' Take your next vacation at the most and best reviewed lake house in all of Lake Placid, Florida...ours!
For those of you with children, please know that all lake houses are not created equal. Some lakes and locations are not as suitable for younger children (or even adults) to enjoy the water in safety. This property has a 100' clean, white sand beach area with clean shallow water out to the end of the dock....perfect for younger children. Unlike some other locations on the lake which have dark, deeper, water with a mucky bottom near the dock, we have none of that. This is the perfect place to wade and enjoy the water whether you're 8 or 80!
Also be aware of the importance of the location of the house on the lake. Some homes advertised on vrbo are on canals, or less desirable areas of Lake June. We are on the north side of the lake (see map below), with a completely unobstructed view of the entire lake, including the lovely sunsets. It truly is about location, location, location....and we've got one of the best locations on the lake!
The home has two bedrooms with king size beds, one with private bathroom with shower. These are no ordinary beds...they are plush with lots of egg crate and foam covers which will welcome you to sleep in comfort. Second, full bath off main living area.
The entire inside of the house was freshly painted in October, 2011. We also put in new windows on the back (lake) wall, along with new back door and other little improvements.
The sleeping porch (a/k/a Florida room) is air conditioned, and has one twin bed, one brand new double futon, a single futon, rocking chair, and large comfy sitting chair with ottoman, all overlooking the lake.
Please note: One potential tenant stopped by to check out the property when we were there and remarked: 'It is so much bigger than it appeared in the photos online.' If that is your impression from the photos, let me give you the stats on the rooms: The sleeping porch/Florida room (room on the back of the house with futons overlooking the lake). is 13.5 wide by 25 long. The bedrooms are 15 feet long by 9.5 feet wide; these numbers do not include the separate desk/closet areas shown in both photos.
I did not measure the kitchen but once again, our visitor said 'this is larger than I thought it was from the photos.' To be sure, this is not a palatial home, but perhaps it is a little larger than the photos suggest.
Pull out couch in living area also makes into a bed. (I must admit, it's not that comfortable however). There are ceiling fans in every room, including the sleeping porch/Florida room.
This area has what one of our visitors called 'a wall of windows' so you can watch the lake activities from the comfort of your easy chair or rocker in air conditioned comfort if you wish.
Another surprising and rare amenity at this property: enclosed porch has large hot tub and patio table with seating for six.
Large back yard has picnic table and wooden swing hanging from mossy hickory tree.
In January 2011, we replaced all carpet and vinyl throughout the house. The wood floor underneath still creaks, but everything is clean and neat. We also just installed a 46' HD flat screen TV in the living area. Second refrigerator in garage can be turned on to accommodate even more food for larger groups.
We have excellent quality, high pressure city water coming in to the house.
Most lake houses have a dock, but not like this! Two large, custom swings under cover, plus plenty of room for lounge chairs out in the sun. The rope swing is a hit with children of all ages! Feed the fish from the dock, watch ospreys, sandhill cranes, egrets, ducks, seagulls, otters and other wildlife. From here, you have an unobstructed view of the entire lake, including the stunning sunsets.
White sand beach and shallow water volleyball area, with 150' of shallow water out to the dock provides perfect play area for young children and adults alike. Portable fire pit allows you to enjoy a campfire by the lake and roast marshmallows, tell stores, or just quietly relax.
Whether you are a retired couple looking to relax for a month or more in the winter months, or a family looking for a super fun vacation get away at a great value, this is the place for you.
Don't just take it from us, read the reviews below written by some of the folks who have stayed with us and see if this fun property is what you're looking for. If you have any doubts or questions, call or e-mail me and I'll send more information and photos and will be happy to give you all the information you need.

A++++ Myself and 5 Family members stayed at this well maintained, incredibly located property. Highly recommend! ( I hestitated to highly recommend because you may book it and I cant get back in there again!!) We have stayed at another property in the area and this was hands down way ahead in every way, and hope to return as soon as we can. The house was clean - very well equipped and has an incredible dock. You can live on the dock pretty much! Comfortable huge swing seats, great loungers, lighting and power, room for a boat which I took and had an absolute blast on the clear, clean, large lake. We fished off the pier and caught bass up to four pounds and one night an 11 pound catfish so the kids think its heaven! The owners communication is great. The house has everything you will need, beds were comfy and plenty of sleep options. The hot tub was well used and added to the relxation and overall experience. All in all facilities great, location perfect, no negatives at all. Book it you wont be sorry.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We stayed in this cute cottage home for about a week. When we first walked in, it felt comforting, welcoming & it was cozy! The cottage had everything you could ask for and more! The kids enjoyed the rope swing! We all enjoyed fishing from the dock and the beach volleyball and I personally enjoyed sun bathing on the dock with easy access to the lake. The evenings were great to relax in the hot tub! We enjoyed cooking every night and we are so in love with the stove!! The griddle made the most perfect pancakes!!! It rained every day but we didn't let it ruin our time! That just gave us inside family time to play board games. We would love to go back again!!!Recommended for: Pet owners, families with young children.

Loved the quaint cottage feel and especially enjoyed cooking on the gas stove, complete with griddle and grill. Great family vacation. We have 3 kids ages 14, 9 and 4. Our boat blew up on the third day we were there and the kids still had plenty to do. There's a volleyball net the kids enjoyed, as well as, a great little beach for the little one to build sandcastles on. The huge swings on the dock were great for the adults and some much needed R & R. Overall great experience. House is as pictured in the owner photos, which is always a relief. Certainly would recommend to friends.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Let me start off by saying the house was excellent and as advertised. We arrived on Saturday June 23 for a week stay at the house. Upon arriving , we knew the weather would be bad for a day or two, due to tropical storm Debbie brewing in the gulf of Mexico. We had know idea of what was to come.On the afternoon of Sunday June 24, the weather got worse and tornado warnings were issued for the Lake June / Placid area. A tornado struck around 4 pm that afternoon and severly damaged the house right next to us and completely destroyed the house across the street from us. After notifying emergency personnel of the Tornado, I called the owner and advised him of the damage to his house such as shingles missing and vinyl siding missing. The owner offered to refund us our money for the rental but we chose to wait it out. The owners quickly had his maintenance people come and check on us and the house. The Maintenance man was wonderful and took care of us. By Wednesday the weather was beautiful with blue bird skies. We tubed on the lake and played in the water for the rest of the trip. What started out bad , ended up being one of the best and most memoriable vacations that my family as ever had. Thanks again to the owners for allowing my Family to rent his lake house.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: We are very thankful everyone was safe and that no serious damage was done to our house. The little bit of damage that was done has already been repaired, with the exception of a few shingles which will be replaced soon. We do have excellent on-call maintenance folks to address any problems or emergencies. Hopefully we'll never need them again for tornado damage repairs!

What a Place. We rented this house in March 2012. Things could not have gone better. A very comfortable home, beautiful lake with a dock to spend the day relaxing in the sun. Our host-Dave- went out of his way to make us feel like we were family. We will be back soon. Thanks Dave.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children.

The three of us (myself, my wife, and our dachsund) spent a delightful 2 months at the lake house. The accomodations were WAY above what one would normally expect at a vacation home. Flawless TV reception, wifi, comfortable bed(s), and convenient location places this property among the most desireable we've occupied. Cudos to David & Vicki for their effort at making you feel at home. And congratulations to you if you choose to make reservations.Recommended for: Pet owners.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2003
About the owner: We have now become a family of 8 with the addition of our new grand daughter. We look forward to her and our many future grand children creating the same great memories we have at the lake.
Why the Owner Chose Lake Placid:
We began visiting Lake June 18 years ago as a weekend getaway and quickly fell in love with the area. Ten years ago, we finally took the plunge and purchased this property. We have shared more laughs, played more games, told more stories, and had more fun at this place than at any other vacation spot we have ever visited. This is truly the best investment in family time we have ever made.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
My favorite time at the lake is sunrise on the dock with a cup of coffee and the Good Book. There is no better time or place to enjoy the beauty and solitude the lake provides. For those who like to sleep in, and after the day-long excursions of tubing, wakeboarding, skiing, jet skis, sailing, rope swinging, water volleyball, or just snoozing on the swings, the pontoon ride at the end of the day is an all time favorite. You just can't beat seeing the sunset from the pontoon as you slowly cruise around the lake, waiving to the other boat loads of folks who are doing the exact same thing.
And after doing everything else, a great way to relax is to slide into the large hot tub on the screened in porch.
If you like to cook, you'll love the DCS Professional gas cook top complete with 4 large burners, grill, griddle, and massive exhaust hood.
For the money, you can't beat this as a place to enjoy the company of friends and family! This property has 100' on the water, and is 200' deep, plenty of room to have lots of fun in the water and park your cars, play yard games, etc. Please note, this is a quiet neighborhood so we will not rent to those who are looking for a place to have a wild party. Lots of fun, absolutely; too much drinking and craziness, absolutely not.
