Why the Owner Chose Wintergreen

Many resorts do one thing well. Few do all things well. Wintergreen, because it is owned and operated by the homeowners, takes all the income from the resort and puts it back to resort improvements, thereby assuring that the facilities will always be first class. From tennis and golf to restaurants and entertainment to skiing and tubing and a commitment to the preserving the environment, Wintergreen does it all well.

Owner's Map of Wintergreen

We are a family of five from North Carolina who have grown to love Wintergreen Resort. We enjoy the world class golf and tennis, hiking the many miles of trails at Wintergreen (including the Appalachian Trail), skiing and the great restaurants right on the mountain. Our kids, ages 14,15 and 18, love to bring friends up and show them around the resort. With each and every visit, new experiences and memories are generated that keep us coming back for more.

Great House - Perfect for Multiple Families with Kids

Guest: Kwhite (Richmond, VA)
Date of Stay: 02/03/12 Review Submitted: 05/10/12

Three families rented this amazing house during the next to last weekend of ski season. Everyone from the adults to the kids were really happy with the house. The kids went nuts over the bunk room and even with 6 adults and 6 kids we had plenty of beds to spare. We would highly recommend this home and hope to return next ski season.

Great vacation home for groups!!! Amazing views!!

Guest: Amanda (Washington, DC)
Date of Stay: 02/23/12 Review Submitted: 03/06/12

This home is HUGE and incredibly cozy. I stayed in this home with a large group of professional 30-somethings and found the home to be very comfortable, clean and perfect for a long weekend. The location was ideal and the views were unobstructed and stunning. The home had lots of little nooks to hide away and read a book, play a game or otherwise remove yourself from the group and relax. Some in our group didn't ski and seemed to really enjoy spending the day enjoying the home. With all the natural light this house gets, it was lovely to spend the day with a book too. The way the rooms are arranged was perfect. There were many rooms with big beds for couples and lots of bunks (I recall 4 bunk beds) that were perfect for the singles in our group. The fire place and hot tub were great in the evenings. The views from the house were amazing!!! There's a huge balcony off the main floor with unobstructed views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. With the unusually warm weather we've had, we were able to enjoy brunch on the deck in February. The kitchen and dining area were great for groups as it's open and large enough to allow for everyone to mingle around and snack during meal prep times. There's a stero system by the wine fridge that we only found as we were checking out and wish we had found it sooner as it was great. Everything in the home felt new and clean. The only thing that could've made my stay at this home better, would've been higher quality towels. Otherwise, no complaints. The owner Steve was very easy to work with and easily reachable for questions or directions. There was tons of firewood at the house and everyone in the group was commenting on how they wanted to rent this house again every year. Thanks Steve!!!

Perfect Vacation Home!

Guest: Jillian (Virginia Beach, VA)
Date of Stay: 01/26/12 Review Submitted: 02/07/12

This was our second year renting this property. We loved it so much last year that it was an easy decision on where to stay this year. Our group of 10 had more than enough room and space. Each couple had their own room with plenty of privacy and comfort. The pictures on the website don't do the house justice. It is a gorgeous house with amazing views! The house is very well-maintained, clean and well decorated. Our group enjoyed sitting around the fireplace, eating meals together at the large dining room table, and relaxing in the hot tub. Our group shares responsibilities in the kitchen and everyone cooks a meal. The open layout and counter with chairs allows friends to sit and chat while the cook works their magic in the kitchen. The owner, Steve, was extremely helpful in meeting our special needs. He had plenty of firewood delivered before our arrival and was easily accessible for questions prior to the trip via email and once at the house via phone. The owner has provided information books with local attractions and activities. The location is perfect- a short drive to ski resort, spa and pool. I would definitely recommend this rental to friends and family. We are expecting our first baby at the end of the month. We've already started planning future trips to this location. The house would also be very accommodating to families with children with the bunk beds, ping pong tables, DVD players and games. We look forward to going back next year!

Great Home in Wintergreen

Guest: Nikki (Raleigh, NC)
Date of Stay: 12/27/11 Review Submitted: 01/12/12

We stayed after Christmas with another family, 9 of us in all. Great location, beautiful sunrise views. We enjoyed making fires in the fireplace in the afternoons and cooking in the well stocked kitchen. The weather did not cooperate well for skiing so we explored the area--went to Grand Caverns in Grottoes, drove to Staunton for lunch and milkshakes at Wrights Dairy Rite and then sampled wine at Rockbridge Winery. We also hiked up Crabtree falls which is a short drive. The house was clean and as represented in the photos. The house seems to be a 1980's but nice remodel of the kitchen and nice big kitchen table to seat all of us. The kids loved the ping pong table and the hot tub was clean and well maintained. The electric heat was a little bit of a pain to go all over the house and turn on the individual units but no big deal. I used the washer and dryer but the laundry room is a little scary! Overall very good house for a large group and great central location for exploring the Shenandoah valley!

Owner response:The home is equipped with central heating and air. On the ground floor, rooms are also equipped with auxillary heaters to customize the temperature per individual. This is also more energy efficient. The laundry room is clean, well lit and very functional.

Great for Family Groups

Guest: Connie M (Alexandria, VA)
Date of Stay: 11/11/11 Review Submitted: 12/12/11

The setting is lovely and the view spectacular from this home. There was plenty of room for everyone in our group of 12, we didn't even use one of the downstairs bedrooms. The 6 children loved the bunk room equipped with video games, toys and a ping-pong table. The adults enjoyed cooking in the well stocked kitchen. We all enjoyed the outdoor firepit during the chilly evenings. We went into Charlottesville for a football game and it was an easy drive. Steve, the owner, was very pleasant to work with and went out of his way to ensure that we enjoyed our stay. We would definitely rent this property again, our children are already asking about going back next fall.

Fall Weekend

Guest: Beverly (South Riding, VA)
Date of Stay: 11/04/11 Review Submitted: 11/15/11

Our group of two families (4 adults and 5 boys, ages 6-10) stayed here for a long weekend in November. We loved the house and the area so much, we ended up calling to add on an extra day, after we arrived. The house is PERFECT for families. The downstairs was kid central, featuring a large room with Xbox and 3 sets of bunk beds. The adult retreat was upstairs with the gorgeous kitchen and lovely furnishings. The views from the windows and the deck could not be beat. Everything was exactly as described, and in fact the pictures really do not do the home justice. Our expectations were not only met, they were exceeded. Steve (owner) was very accessible and pleasant.

Tough Mudder Weekend

Guest: Mike (Akron, OH)
Date of Stay: 10/21/11 Review Submitted: 11/10/11

We recently rented the home during the Tough Mudder weekend. Five of us participated in the event and enjoyed every minute of it. The house provided a perfect backdrop to the weekend and was a welcome site both before and after the race. The pictures on VRBO do not do this home justice. It has a large open concept with a great two story fireplace and vaulted ceilings. The kitchen provides a perfect setup for making large meals and the two level deck offers a great view of the night sky as well as the sunrise as it peaks over the surrounding mountains. The hot tub was used often, more-so after the race, and the fire pit area provided a great ending to each night. If any of us muster up the courage to sign up for Tough Mudder next year, we'd absolutely stay in this home again. A true mountaintop oasis.

Great Family Fun

Guest: Jayme (Richmond, VA)
Date of Stay: 09/01/11 Review Submitted: 10/12/11

This was a great home for our multigenerational family getaway. Grandparents, children, and grandchildren enjoyed the amazing indoor and outdoor space. The weather was fantastic and we were able to take full advantage of everything around the resort at free or discounted price with the guest passes furnished by the owners. The owners were also very helpful. They suggested activities and answered any questions we have in advance of and during our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would recommend this property to others.

Top-Notch Accomodations

Guest: General (Richmond, Virginia)
Date of Stay: 08/12/11 Review Submitted: 09/06/11

This is a beautiful home. A heavy 1980s patina hangs on many of the homes in Wintergreen. Not this house. The interior has been thoroughly updated and tastefully decorated. The beautiful interior is a nice complement to the stunning views from all rooms on the first floor. If you like mountain views, this is your house. Also, the living rooms on the first and second floors allow this house to comfortably fit a number of families with children. A couple of significant benefits of this house over other places we have stayed. 1. The WPI guest passes are extremely important. Without them, you will not have access to Wintergreen's beautiful pool and fitness center. Also, the passes get you access to better golf tee times and the lake on Saturdays, and the passes entitle you to various discounts. 2. Steve is extremely responsive and helpful. We had all the benefits of a professional management company without the markup. 3. On the property are some nice amenities: a hot tub, fire pit, and hammock. Our family enjoyed all of them. In addition, the house has air conditioning, which not all houses in Wintergreen have. 4. The two-car garage is connected to the house and near the kitchen, making loading and unloading our baggage very easy. 5. We have stayed at houses in Wintergreen that required the guests on checkout to take care of an extensive laundry list of items one would have assumed were covered in the cleaning fee. Steve's check-out requirements were quite reasonable, which made our departure pleasant. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and plan to return.

WONDERFUL Large Vacation Home!

Guest: Familyof6 (Raleigh, NC)
Date of Stay: 07/31/11 Review Submitted: 08/19/11

This is an absolutely lovely home near the top of the mountain in Wintergreen. Our family of 6 had more than enough room! My children loved the location, the fire pit in the backyard, and most of all, the hot tub on the lower deck! The kitchen is beautifully renovated and has everything you need. DirecTV is a nice convenience for the adults. Highly recommended!
