Caribbean Paradise - Steps to Beach, Exotic Gardens, Wildlife
- Minimum stay:Contact owner

- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
This home is a nature lovers paradise! It is nestled in a beautiful garden full of flowers and fruit trees AND is only 200 yards from the warm waters of the Caribbean. The yard is so full of wildlife that you will see more animals, birds, and reptiles than you will in the Cahuita National Park. On almost any given day, you will see or hear toucans, iguanas, exotic butterflies, sloths, parrots, howler monkeys, agoutis, or tropical frogs. This home is very unique in Cahuita. No other home in our town will allow you such a personal relationship with nature. We are fortunate that a wild sloth that has chosen to live in our Almendra tree only 5 meters from the house!.
This home provides you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the real Costa Rica without sacrificing any modern conveniences. You will have a full sized kitchen with quality brand name appliances, wifi internet, a safe for your laptop and other valuables, an on demand tankless hot water, and an American purification system for drinking water.
If you choose to leave this Garden of Eden, within a 5 minute walk from the house you can – take a surf lesson, go horseback riding, snorkel, savor the delicious local cuisine of the Paradise Restaurant or enjoy the calming vibes at Reggae Bar.
Downtown Cahuita is a mere 15 minute walk away – just far enough to ensure your tranquility yet not so far that you will need a car. There you will find a mix of wonderful restaurants, shops, bars and tour agencies to cater to your individual needs.
And don’t forget the Cahuita National Park. There you can play on the beach, kayak or simply admire the acrobatic skills of monkeys as you walk through the jungle.
If comparing listings, may I suggest three questions you ask the owners prior to making a decision:
1) Will I have to cross a highway from your home to reach the beach?
2) From your home, is the nearest access to the ocean made of sand or huge old coral formations?
3) Do you have a purification system for drinking water? Don't lose precious vacation time due to stomach illness.

We stayed at this House for 12 nights from late March to early April and it was a great stay. Troy's house does everything it says on the tin. He has a garden that teems with wildlife day and night and, yes, there is a sloth living in the garden. In fact one day the sloth had a visitor so we had two of them for a short period. We were a party of 4 adults, two in their 50's and two in their 20's and there was plenty to entertain us all. The house is well equipped and comfortable but gives the impression of being in the wilds despite being in a village with neighbors close by. The locals were incredibly friendly and helpful and when we moved to another part of Costa Rica they were very helpful in advising us. This really was a taste of paradise.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We arrived between Christmas and New Year. Was greeted by the owner Troy who explained about the house and things to do in the area. Enjoyed the house a lot - close to the small town, but it feels private in the secluded garden. The house lived up to our expectations - there's everything you need (well worth the price). Bring mosquito repellent! (as anywhere else in Costa Rica). We visited Jaguar Rescue Centre in Puerto Viejo (a very, very good experience - go and experince this if you like animals), walked in the nearby national park (bring swimming gear) and visited the botanical garden outside Puerto Viejo (interesting, but not fantastic).Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

All we can say is . . . wow!!! What a darling home and perfect location. It is even better than the description. The home had everything we needed and more; lots of little things that made a big difference- like a great book collection, blender, coffee grinder, beach blanket, a cooler for the beach, etc.. Also, I have had stomach problems when travelling in the past so we were very relieved to know that we were drinking purified water. When we first arrived Troy was there to greet us with a genuine smile. He patiently and thoughtfully answered all of our many questions about restaurants, tours and pretty much everything. We felt like part of the community on our first day there. Cahuita is wonderful. The people in this lovely little town are so friendly. Everyone waves and greets each other on the street. And Troy was spot on about all the wildlife in the yard. We saw Bruno the sloth almost every day and the amount of colorful birds (we saw toucans!) and exotic butterflies that appear in the yard regularly is amazing. We will absolutely be back again to enjoy this delightful home. Thanks Troy!!!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

Everything Troy says in his write-up is accurate. We saw more birds and wildlife in his yard than anywhere else on this trip - including the parks. Troy's home is comfortable - I especially liked the hammock on the second floor. The kitchen is well-equiped and even has a Joy of Cooking cookbook. There were several resturants within easy walking distance with excellent food - and good margaritas. We rented bikes and boogie boards from Big J (Joseph) in Cahuita and were happy with his prices and the tours he arranged. Brigette's had great breakfasts and a river tour that was fantastic.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, tourists without a car, age 55+, sightseeing.

We chose Cahuita because we wanted to have a vacation away from the over-Americanized large resort mentality. This house helped create the perfect balance for us. The house was perfect for the three of us. Troy met us when we first got to his home to pass along all the essentials. But his pointers on local stuff to do proved super helpful. We used rental bikes during our entire stay and some local bus rides. The absence of a rental car was never an issue. The beaches and wildlife of Cahuita national park was our highlight. The amazing experience we had wouldn't have been possible without this comfortable house and Troy's hospitality. Highly recommend and big thanks Troy!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

There are no words to describe this rental. The house is gorgeous and very private. You truly feel like you are in your own jungle getaway near the beach. The owner is a fantastic person and we really enjoyed meeting him. He truly cares about this property and your Costa Rica experience. If you are looking for a fantastic deal, an amazing house, great location and everything you need, look no further. We can't recommend this place enough!! We will be back to visit the house, Trent and Bruno the sloth, who lives in the front yard! :-)Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

My sweetie and I spent 12 days at Troy's super cozy home, which is set in a lovely garden just a little bit off the main beech access about 1/2 a mile out of the town proper. We really enjoyed sitting on both the downstairs and upstairs porches and watching birds and animals in the garden. This was quite the relaxing paradise for us. We made the 2 minute walk to the beech most days and played in the water then sat in the shade of palm trees along the beach and read... We were completely blown away by the folks and the food at the Regge bar that's on the way to the beech. By some luck of the landscape and trees etc, the music didn't pollute our tranquility at the house but was very enjoyable when were were at the bar... If you are particularly unfit or disabled in a way that would restrict you from climbing the steep and narrow stairs up to the second floor you might consider giving this home a miss. But know you will be missing something great ;) Having said that, there are a couple rooms downstairs you could sleep in, so really I only say this because it might restrict how much of the house you could enjoy. We rented bicycles for the whole time were were in town, I'm kind of out of shape, so when we arrived the 1/2 mile ride on bumpy dirt road was not super fun, although after a few days it was quite doable. Next time I'd like to rent an ATV :) Still glad we didn't rent a car for the trip, helped us keep a great mellow vibe. When we wanted to travel a ways to do some touristy stuff we booked through Willies and they arranged transport easy-peasy... Also the 1/2 mile+ walk from the bus station to the house with our luggage in tow on a particularly hot day when we arrived was a bit rough on me. We arranged for a local taxi to pick us up at the house and drop us at the bus station on our return was a very well spent $4 :)Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

Just returned from a week at Troy & Bruno's home...it was heavenly! Everything was as listed and Troy was patient with all my emailed questions prior to our arrival. We stayed a week, cooked in the adorable kitchen (loved the set of knives & pots). The beach was so close by, clean and great. Then again, it was hard to leave the hammock and yard so lovely with palms, flowers and visiting creatures. Walking to town is easy, as is renting bikes. I found a Sunday morning market to buy veggies & fruit. I highly recoanyone this rental for anyone wanting a sweet, cozy, jungle experience with amenities, beach and Cahuita all close by.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

Stayed here with my family in April '11. The house exceeding all expectations. It is comfortable, beautiful, clean, convenient, and affordable. It is about a 5 minute walk to the beach, and 20 minutes walk into town although there are other restaurant nearby. We rented bicycles during our stay as were without a car and it was perfect. Seems as though most cars are driven by tourists and locals get around on bikes. Cahuita is a fantastic little town, with great choices for food and surrounded by wonderful beaches. Troy could not have been more accommodating and helpful. The house has a kitchen with everyone one would need in a vacation rental. We do not hesitate to recommend this property, and it's owner. We would certainly stay here again. Thanks Troy for helping to make our vacation super enjoyable and memorable.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

This was our first stop during a 2 week stay in Costa Rica, and we spent the remainder of our trip comparing the rest of the country to Cahuita. We wish we could have spent more time there! The town is gorgeous and relaxed (and not at all tourist-y), and Troy's house was beautifully maintained, close to everything, and precisely the restful stop we were looking for. Troy helped us plan our trip and patiently answered all of our questions about the property and the town. Upon arrival, he even gave us a tour of town, including pointing out the best restaurants and the best places to snorkel. Highly, HIGHLY recommend! We'd stay here again in a heartbeat.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2006
About the owner: I went to university and spent my adult life in Los Angeles. My traveling outside the U.S. had been pretty limited. In 1996 I decided to visit Costa Rica. The wildlife, friendly people, and warm beautiful waters made me fall in love. From that point forward I decided to save money and move to Costa Rica as soon as possible. That was finally accomplished in 2006. I now allow people to rent my home not only to help provide me with income but more importantly share the true Costa Rica in a true home and community with others. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. PS That is Bruno in the profile picture with me.
Why the Owner Chose Cahuita:
I chose Cahuita after spending a lot of time in other areas of Costa Rica and Central America. I have found it to be what I had always envisioned paradise to be - sunny, warm, green, full of wildlife and culture.
