Kuhio Shores condo description
106 is the 'best of the best' Kuhio Shores (ranked #2 by TripAdvisor for Po'ipu condos) offers.
Why settle for less than being right on the beach? Where else are you going to find the beach at such a great price with all the comforts of home?
Located right on the beach, Kuhio Shores provides snorkeling, scuba, surfing, swimming, sunning, and beachcombing without having to get in your car or even cross the street. You are five minutes away from Po'ipu Beach and old Koloa town; with excellent shopping and restaurants between the condo and those destinations.
Kuhio Shores 106 is a great location! This one bedroom, one bath, unit will be your home away from home.
Our condo is distinctive with its beautiful native artwork, shell collections, hand-crafted woodwork, etched glass and mirrors, Hawaiian style decor with a Hawaiian CD mix that provides you with a relaxing environment inducing the aloha spirit. Our condo takes you back to the time when the tropics were truly a remote adventure.
Open the windows and listen to the ocean waves lull you to sleep.
Ho'ai bay, right off the lanai, is known as some of the best snorkeling on Kauai. Snorkel with the turtles and the colorful tropical fish, just steps away from the lanai.
From the lanai you can enjoy the view across to the Ha'upu mountain range, or the sunrise on the bay, or looking out onto the ocean, watching the waves, sailing ships, dolphins jumping, or whales breaching in the distance, and the near constant stream of turtles that come within 20' of your feet to the edge of the bay to feed... all relaxing from your lounge on the lanai, sipping your morning coffee.
The lanai faces East, so the lanai is shaded from the afternoon sun, and the ocean trade winds from the East keep the condo nice and cool year round.
We're on the first floor, so you're not confined to an upper floor where the elevator or stairs (and a walk through the parking lot) are necessary to get to the beach. From our lanai, you can spread-out onto the immaculately kept lawn and enjoy unconfined beach access.

The Location Can't Be Beat!
The Location Can't Be Beat!
We were told by many people that Kauai would become our new favourite Hawaiian Island and after spending a week in this condo, we can honestly say that they were right! The location is perfect - a beautiful view steps from the water within walking distance of first rate snorkeling, shops and restaurants. The condo itself is beautifully furnished with every amenity and the owners have thought of every detail to make a stay there comfortable, memorable and stress-free. They were a pleasure to deal with throughout the process. We can't wait to go back and wouldn't consider staying anywhere else!

A Great Place to Stay
A Great Place to Stay
First, there's the obvious fabulous location and views, sounds of the ocean, colorful sunrises and sunsets in a clean, beautifully decorated, and comfortable condo. The kitchen was well-equipped with everything we needed, and the available snorkel and beach gear meant we didn't have to pay for a checked bag. Second, and perhaps just as important to us was how a first floor condo gave us immediate access to the grass and beach with the slide of the patio door, and parking was close. We didn't need to schlep our gear down the elevator and across the parking lot to get to the shore--definitely a plus if you have children, or like us are senior citizens. Working with Chris and Becky was easy and comfortable--our enjoyment was clearly a part of their mission statement. We had a wonderful time--thank you.

Kuhio Shores 106 is the perfect place to stay when visiting Poipu. The condo has an incredible view of the bay and is beautifully decorated with custom-made pieces and built-ins. Chris is awesome! He quickly responds to all of your questions and is very helpful! You can sense that he really cares about his guests and that he wants them to have the time of their lives. Thank you Chris for making our stay so comfortable and memorable!

Best month ever
Best month ever
We stayed here for a month with our two young children, it was absolutely fabulous. We especially loved the beach just a few minutes walk that is well protected from the waves and perfect for small kids to play in and uncover all sorts of marine life in the shallow rocky area. The owners were great to deal with and are amazingly knowlagable about the island. Then handled it great when one of our kids decided to try "color" on the TV with a rock and scratched the screen all up. We also did quite a bit of scuba diving, there is a great shore diving spot just a mile away.

Travelers, you cannot go wrong with Kuhio Shores #106! This gem-of-a-condo was above and beyond our expectations and the owners are personable and professional. Being first-time condo renters, my husband and I were somewhat skeptical that everything would be as promised; however, everything was taken care in a very friendly and professional manner and we couldn't have been happier. The condo is equipped with everything you need to have a care-free, wonderful time. The view from the lanai is the best! Sea turtles and colorful birds abound. We napped there in the afternoon after a full day of activities on the island. The sound of the waves and soft breeze lull you to sleep. The groundskeeper is friendly and works hard to keep the surroundings well-kept and clean. The complex is quiet and was not overrun with partyers or unruly children. You will not be disappointed with staying at Kuhio Shores #106. Happy travels! ... see the above at our web site on FlipKey/TripAdvisor.

Beautiful view and comfort!
Beautiful view and comfort!
My husband and I celebrated our 25th anniversary at your condo, we were thrilled that the condo lived up to the pics portrayed on your site. It was very inviting and comfortable. The condo was stocked with everything we needed, we definately made use of the cooler and freezer packs available to us as we did a lot of sightseeing and packed a picnic lunch every day. The grounds were clean and beautifully landscaped. The owners were extremely helpful and readily available to answer any questions we had, and freely offered their expertise on places to go and sights to see. The availability of a Wifi network in the condo was also a big plus for us. We would recommend this property and hope to be able to come back again. We only have one concern regarding the bedroom windows as we felt they were not secure with only a screen on the outside and no glass to lock.

We planned a beach wedding and honeymoon in Kauai. We arrived on Tuesday February 26th and stayed until Thursday March 7th. I booked the condo about nine months in advance. Chris was great to deal with and was very quick with all responses. We couldn't have gotten a better condo. The location was perfect. It was about a 20 minute drive from the airport. Chris provided us with a packet early on which gave us a chance to review directions, restaurants, farmers markets, etc. This helped immensely. We planned a few activities and the condo was a great location for all of them. Had we wanted to do more on the North Shore, it may have been a little of a drive. We were perfectly happy staying on the west and south side of the island. The condo itself had everything we needed. Opening the doors to the lanai and watching the ocean was one of our favorite things to do. The sounds of the ocean were so soothing. The trade winds that blew through the condo were perfect. We even had to use the sheet while sleeping at night! We had one little problem the first night we got here with the patio door. The owner of the condo and the maintenance man were very quickly on it and fixed it with ease. The owner even followed up immediately to ensure it was taken care of. You never want things to go wrong but it happens. You couldn't have asked for quicker or better service. The only bad thing is that we have to go home! We have already decided anytime we come back, we want this exact condo. Thank you so much for making our wedding and honeymoon a dream come true!

Relaxing, wonderful vacation in a beautiful condo!
Relaxing, wonderful vacation in a beautiful condo!
My fiance and I spent a week at #106, Kuhio Shores to celebrate my 30th birthday and our recent engagement. We couldn't have asked for a better stay. The owners, Chris and Becky, were accommodating, hospitable, and full of wonderful advice and recommendations. They made arrival and departure smooth and hassle-free. Their information was up to date, clear, and concise. I was particularly impressed that they checked in on us throughout the trip and made sure we were enjoying our stay, and even provided an aerial map of the bay with instructions on how to swim with the turtles. We loved sitting on the lanai and playing "spot the turtle" (and even a seal!) and then taking our beach chairs around the corner to enjoy the sunset. The condo was clean and fully equipped, as advertised. We have already recommended it to multiple people who are planning a trip to Kaua'i. Kuhio Shores is centrally located in Poipu and it made for easy travel to either side of the island. We had a wonderful trip and would highly recommend this unit to our friends and family.

Kuhio Shores is a 40-year-old complex. We stayed in #106 in October, 2012. On our first morning, we awakened not to the sound of ocean waves, but to jack hammers. Next, the bathroom sink overflowed. Happened to our neighbors, as well. The next day, owners of a nearby condo began a major remodel, which involved lots of power tools and workmen walking back and forth during the day. The trade winds from the east didn't keep the condo cool. The living room area was hot from early AM until noon. The bedroom was hot and stuffy at night, despite the use of fans. There were two coffee makers, both of which were broken. There was lots of "mood" lighting, but no lamps adequate for reading in the evening. There is only one small nightstand/bureau in the bedroom, which is not enough storage space for a couple, much less four people. Luggage had to be stored in the living room. The living room furniture is very uncomfortable, with cushions that slip and slide. The TVs are both 23", kind of small, and the Netflix only functions in the bedroom. The barbeque is located next to the dumpsters. Not too appetizing. We saw few people use the beach in front of the condo for snorkling or for anything else, as it's very rocky. We were unable to use the printer for boarding passes at our departure. The owner was very kind, but that hardly compensated for a rather unpleasant holiday. One would be wise to inquire about major remodel/demolition projects before planning a stay here. Too bad for us. We didn't ask. Photos don't always tell the whole tale.

Owner response: I'm heartbroken you didn't enjoy Kaua'i. I work very hard to make sure every guests gets the most out of their stay, and their enjoyment is paramount. When you told me the sink backed up, the plumber and the housekeeper were there in under 10 minutes to remedy. When you complained about the remodeling neighbors, I was able to get their workmen to shut the doors to muffle the sound. I had the coffee maker replaced as soon as you told me it was broken. I even bought you dinner at the Beach House restaurant. I had spent dozens of hours working with you before your trip, to make sure all your questions were answered. The televisions are only 23" (and Netflix is only in the bedroom). I don't spend a lot of time watching TV in Kaua'i, so I haven't put a priority on this. It looks as though I need to. There are the alternate cushions that tie to the center of the futon; I didn't know your problem was "slipping and sliding" (or I would have suggested this). The neighbor's "major remodel" was only to replace a few exterior windows. I was aware of this, but as it was three doors down, I didn't think it would be an issue. Because of your unique experience, I proposed that the AOAO publish a remodeling schedule that future guests can see before they come. "Comfortable temperature" is a matter of taste, so I can't argue that it was too hot for you. The ocean breeze is nearly continuous off the lanai, and if the air is flowing through the lanai screens, I've been comfortable. At night, I close/lock the plantation shutters and tilt the slats... the airflow goes through the living room and out the bedroom, and I'm comfortable. If the ocean breeze stops (which it seldom does), then I find the ceiling fans sufficient. That's me. I can't fault you for your perception. Maybe you closed-up the lanai windows and didn't allow the airflow? The dumpsters are closed and walled-off in a separate area; I've never smelled them from the barbeques. There are lots of lights, some are mood lights... there are too many switches, so maybe it was hard to find the right lighting; labels on the switches may help. The rockiness of PK's beach means there are few who use it; I did provide instructions on where to find the sand and how to safely enter and snorkel with the turtles. I love having the bay all to myself.
We really loved staying at this condo. Walking from the parking area to into the condo was such a wonderful surprise. What a view! Snorkel heaven too. All the best snorkeling is right there. The Beach House Restaurant conveniently located to walk and eat (10 steps to the restaurant its that close but expensive). The condo has everything you need or can think of needing. We loved it so much we will most likely go again and again. It was super clean and a very friendly owner who constantly checks in to make sure you have everything you need, very accomodating and quick to answer or respond. I highly recommend this condo to anyone who wants a fantastic ground level place to stay that is clean and convenient for snorkeling or dining. LOVE IT!! Chana from Vancouver, WA

Why the Owner Chose Kuhio Shores:
We Love Kauai. Kauai offers all the benefits of a Hawaii without feeling overwhelmed by tourists. I spent a few years living in a rural area in the tropics in the 60's... and Kauai reminds me so much of the way things were back then (of course, with internet access). The island has many micro-climates, from jungle to desert; this is the dry side. It is common for the entire island to be engulfed in rain, and just as you reach Koloa, the rain subsides. Kuhio Shores is right on the beach; you can't build this close anymore. There's a reef ~200yds. out where the waves break, so the water is normally tranquil by the condo. We've never looked at renting the condo strictly as a business; it's for our fun and our guests fun. The greatest reward we get is in helping our guests have the best possible vacation. It sounds 'sappy' but it's true: it's been our most intangibly rewarding venture, and we love doing it. One additional benefit has been the best, most diligent and hard-working housekeeper imaginable!
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
Lawai beach is most popular on the West side of the building, in front of the Beach House restaurant (where the best surfing is). Our East side of the building faces Ho'ai bay with a small patch of beach that attracts the turtles and not the tourists. There are only 8 ground-level units on this side of the building which gives it a sense of privacy. If you want to see and be seen, then the beach on the West side of the building is only a short walk. The condo faces east for the sunrise. There is a year-round ocean breeze coming from the east, providing nearly constant flow-through ventilation. Inside the unit, the wood and art remind me of the tropics back in the 60's... so I'm a throw-back for nostalgia in this respect. It adds to the sense that you're on a remote rural island.
