I am reviewing this vacation rental company aGreatPlaceToStay.net who also owns Bucks Beach Bungalow because they took such good care of us when the home that we had reserved with another person, turned out to be double-booked. There my family was, sitting in the car after a 5-hr drive, when I was told by the people in the home, that they had reserved the home and had been there for 2 of the 5-nights that they had paid for. I Goggled Vacation Rental homes on my iPod and was happy to see that aGreatPlaceToStay.net was still open as it was after 6pm on a Sunday night. When I called, I was invited to come to their office which was just a couple of blocks away and easily review the homes that were available from their computers. We narrowed it down to 3-homes, and Geri took us to each and explained the differences to help us decided which would be the best for us. We ended up taking the 2nd of the 3 we saw and were very pleased to have the Housekeeper show up within 20 minutes and deliver a welcome bouquet of fresh flowers. She also asked permission to take a quick look around and make sure that the home was completely ready for us. She found a spider-web (they can make a new one every day) and removed it for us, and when we said we wanted to go somewhere to eat, she also told us of a couple of her favorite restaurants that were in the area. The Pink Godzilla was fabulous! This company really understands the meaning of service and I am happy to recommend them to anyone who likes to be treated as an honored guest.
Owner response:Thanks for making us feel like HEROS!! We really appreciate working with you and are happy to give you a 5% return guest discount the next time you stay in one of our Family-loved Vacation Rentals in the Santa Cruz area. Judith

Our overall experience was very poor. When we selected this rental it was advertised as a 1 bedroom, two bath bungalow. There are no bedrooms in this rental. There is one sleeping alcove, and a futon in the living room. Both areas can be closed off with curtains. There is only one bathroom in the rental. Another bathroom is available for use but it is across the back yard and in an entirely separate building. I would describe this rental as a studio with one bathroom. In our opinion the rental was neither clean nor well maintained. We found very dusty furniture, floors and window blinds. Many of the kitchen utensils were greasy and grimy. The counter top appliances (juicer, etc.) were dusty and spotted with what appeared to be dried on food. The fountain on the front deck was full of dirty water and mosquito larva. We were horrified to find a dead bird in the fountain. The conditions in the rental were so poor that we did not want to stay there. We notified the owner that we would be finding another place to stay and we asked for a refund. We were offered a gift certificate, which we declined. Eventually we did receive a refund. This was a very upsetting and disappointing beginning to our vacation.
Owner response:Are you ever amazed at people who don’t read contracts? He admitted he had not read it, but it was still all my fault that the home was not ready and they went and paid for another one. As it turns out my housekeeper was in a car accident and was not able to get to the home as scheduled (in fact I did not know about her problems until 2 days later as her jaw was wired shut.) But on our contract, we state at the very top, our Guarantee. Which is: Guarantee for Home - We spend a lot of time making sure the homes are in the best possible shape for your stay. Of course, we are human, so sometimes you may need to call us to resolve something. This is the procedure to get something handled: 1) When you arrive, please look carefully at the home. Any time within 3-hours of your arrival, we can be called and we will be happy to help you even if it means switching you to another home in our network at no extra charge. 2) This does not exclude the possibility of some appliance etc breaking due to its lifecycle. If that happens, you can call at any time, 24hr/7days a week to our all hours toll-free number 1-888-357-4345. 3) If you wait to tell us about something that you wanted handled until you get home, there is nothing we can do about it. 4) In other words, we will do everything possible to make the home be the way you want it during your stay. We will not be able to refund or give any other compensation for anything that you feel was not right, if you don't give us a chance to fix it. It is a sad commentary, but some people have been known to lodge complaints about things after they have left the home, for the sole purpose of getting a refund. A home is a very complicated place with thousands things that can go wrong, so we ask your patience and help in keeping it as good as it can be. Most of our guests are home owners and know all too well that snafus can happen with the best of intentions and take these events with a grain of salt. To them, we are grateful and we are happy to have them back as guests and offer a 5% discount as a gesture of our appreciation. There was no win with these people. We can only hope that others who read this will understand and notice all the great reviews we have had, and take this one as an unfortunate happenstance, that we hope will never happen again. The Owners of aGreatPlaceToStay.net Vacation Rentals – A network of friends with 70+ family loved vacation homes for you to choose from for you and your guests.

What a great time we had at your beautiful Bungalow! It was a perfect stay for my son's UCSC graduation. The boys really enjoyed the longboards and everyone loved the Hot Tub! I think it's the best I've ever been in!! And great job on having lots of plugs and bathrooms on separate water heaters. I'm putting away my pennies now to come back some day soon. The 4 of us had a great time in this small, but well equipped rental. Its is a short walk to the ocean where there is a great dog park (locals call it "the dirt farm") as well as the beaches which are pet friendly, even with mutt mitts supplied. Our lab really enjoyed playing with the other dogs and we learned a lot from the locals who bring their dogs down for a daily run - best time is around 8:30am or around 5pm. We enjoyed watching the surfers skim over the waves too. We also enjoyed several of the movies the home supplied. Great kitchen too. Thanks Darcy and Seth

Myself, 2 daughters & a Brittany Spaniel "Copper". We did have a fabulous time! The Bungalow was perfect for us. Our favorite parts were the fancy jacuzzi and the incredibly equipped kitchen . We had fun cooking together. The boogy boards were so much fun. Had never done that before, but took them down to the twin lakes beach and had a blast! Great Getaway!

We came for our 25th Anniversary, and it was just perfect!! My wife gave me all sorts of credits for having had fresh flowers put in the Bungalow (I didn't have the heart to tell her that the owners always have them for new guests) Really enjoyed waking up and rolling out the the very private hot tub and listening to the waves and occasional sea lions in the distance while sipping a hot cup of coffee. Took the bicycles out for a fun ride over to the boardwalk and a great lunch on the pier. Also enjoyed the firestove and the shiatsu massage chair. Hope to come back for another anniversay celebration soon. Jim & Mandy from San Francisco

We had a great time! We chartered a sailboat last night for a 2 hour cruise just the 5 of us which was wonderful. We went through Pacific Yacht and charter which was not expensive but memorable. He even let the lads take the wheel which they will never forget.

Wow! What a nice place. Had a great time with the kids and the dogs! They even let me beat them a foosball once. Took the bicycles down the Village and played Volleyball on the large sandy beach. The grown-up enjoyed frosty Margaritas at Zeldas right next to the sand. Also enjoyed a short trip down to the Monterey Bay Aquarium... We'll be back. Thanks
