This adorable home is a quirky little 2 bedroom 1 bath 1940's cottage located in the heart of Historic Downtown Beaufort. We have completed the addition of a beautiful, private, back yard patio. There is a driveway to the side of the house with room for 1 car. Duke Cottage is adjacent to our other property, Baby Charles, VRBO #282865.

From this location, you can easily walk to our gorgeous waterfront park where there are lots of restaurants, galleries, and shops. There are porch swings lining the waterfront and it is a lovely place to sit and enjoy the ‘yacht parade’ on the Beaufort River, which is part of the Intracoastal Waterway. The Point neighborhood, filled with antebellum mansions used in the filming of many movies, is just 4 blocks to the east and a wonderful area for leisurely strolls.

Inside the house there is central AC (and heat), as well as whisper quiet ceiling fans in the living room and both bedrooms. It has a cozy living room with a 40' Sony Bravia flat panel TV, HD cable and a DVD player.

The kitchen is large and bright and has been completely redone with a glass top electric range, dishwasher, and refrigerator/freezer with ice maker, and a stacked washer/dryer unit. All cabinets and countertops are new, with a deep stainless steel sink and a pull down spray faucet. All new pots, pans, dishes, glassware, flatware, and necessary gadgets are provided - as are small appliances like a coffee maker, toaster, blender, and a hand mixer. The kitchen is also stocked with staples such as salt and pepper, coffee, tea, and sugar - just to name some.

The Dining Room has large windows on 2 walls. The dining table is round glass and seats 4 comfortably. There is a lovely curved metal chandelier for ambience.

The master bedroom has a new Sealy Posturepedic mattress and boxspring with 100% cotton high thread sheets and fluffy new pillows.

The second bedroom has a single bed with the same mattress, except that it is a twin. We tried having a trundle, but it is too cramped to be comfortable, so the house is limited to 3 guests.

There is one bathroom, and while it isn't large, it is bright and fresh and comes stocked with plenty of 100% cotton fluffy towels. Amenities and a blow dryer are also provided.

The private patio has a dining table with 4 chairs and an umbrella, and 2 chaise lounges and a huge umbrella at the other end. It is a lovely place to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

Pets are allowed with prior approval and a refundable deposit. Please let me know what kind and size of pet you wish to bring so we can discuss it's appropriateness!

All you have to bring is you and your clothing - we've got the rest!

Lovely time in this little cottage for 2 or 3. Very quiet and peaceful in April. Everything we needed was available in the house. Did lots of walking in the town, spent 2 days exploring and hiking in Hunting Island State Park, golfed one day at Hilton Head Port Royal Course-very nice, ate lots of seafood, would have been very easy to take some day trips to Savannah, Tybee Island, Edisto, Kiawah or Charleston but ran out of time. Very good location to stay and do day trips. Owners very accomodating, loved the welcome cupcakes. Would definitely return and would reccommend to friends. The bed was super comfortable with nice bedding.

We spent five nights in this little cottage and never felt cramped. Everything was immaculate and all our housekeeping needs were more than met. The patio area was a pleasant place for a quiet read, or a chat with a glass of wine. Easy walking access to shopping/restaurant district, and interesting and beautiful neighborhoods to explore. And f you enjoy outdoor activities, take the quick drive to Fripp Island for kayaking, or hiking the trails of its wonderful state park.

My husband and I recently stayed in Duke Cottage for a short two night's stay in Beaufort. We loved the little cottage, and found the owner, Erica, to be wonderful to communicate with. She thinks of a lot of things to make her guests comfortable like providing coffee with all of the fixings (even milk and delicious local pastries). Having flown across the country and driven down in the evening from the Charleston airport, it was such a nice touch to know that our first morning was taken care of. We enjoyed sitting out on the back patio under the Spanish moss with our coffee each morning. It was also a great to leave the car at the cottage and just walk the few blocks to the main tourist area. We wished we could've stayed longer. While there, our favorite thing was a kayak tour out of Hunting Island State Park with Beaufort Kayak Tours. We'd recommend it to people of all abilities. There's so much to see in Beaufort that we will have to return for more fun. This is a great place to stay!

We enjoyed a two week stay in Beaufort and fell in love with the area. The magnificent oaks with the Spanish moss never failed to impress. We've never stayed in a friendlier place before. The owners of the cottage were most helpful with great information on just about everything in the area in a well documented binder. The downtown area is within easy walking, great restaurants and shops. Our favourite restaurant was the "Old Bull" with great service and food. Sanctuary Golf Club on Cat Island is a challenging and picturesque course with a friendly 19th hole to meet other players after a great round. The cottage itself is very well appointed and clean. It was a little too cool for us to enjoy the backyard but it would be lovely to sit there on a nice night to enjoy a BBQ. All in all, we would highly recommend this cottage and we plan on coming back soon.

After dozens of VRBO rentals, this is my first review. Duke Cottage is everything it claims to be and more. But the reason for this review is to express astonishment that the owners have gone the extra mile, at every turn. All the little things you really need constantly (but you may have forgotten to pack) are there... paper towels, hand soap, dishwashing detergent, plenty of toilette paper! The kitchen is stocked like a real home. They furnish great cookware and first rate utensils, in case you really want to cook. There was, also, an extremely convenient way to clean up behind your dog. The thing we most appreciated was the space, even in this small cottage, for us and our belongings. The highly tasteful decorating included NONE of the usual clutter, overcrowding every surface. These owners are most gracious, thoughtful and helpful throughout the entire rental experience, even going to the trouble to notify me that I left something behind and to ship it to me. I would recommend this place to anyone. If you go, don't miss shopping at Lulu Burgess and eating at Dockside.

This was our second stay in one of Erica's and John's properties. Their vacation homes are the best and both Erica and John are excellent to deal with! The location of the cottage is wonderful. Just a short walk into historic Beaufort with it's water front walk, shops and very good restaurants. It's great walking our dogs through the lovely historic residential district. The fenced yard is a real bonus as we love to travel with our canine pals Digges and Lois! We highly recommend staying at Duke Cottage or Baby Charles and we will be back again!

If you have a son, daughter, or family member graduating from Marine boot camp this is a good place to stay. It is close to Parris Island, only about 15 min and there are plenty of places to eat and enjoy while there. It is only 45 min from Hilton Head and about 60 min from Savannah. We were there for seven days and the only issue we had was a glitch with the electric. The owners are very willing to help with what ever you need or needs to be done. We also had cupcakes waiting for us when we got there, it was a nice touch and we had traveled from Englewood, Ohio, about 12 hours. This house will sleep only three so it is for a smaller family, but perfect for us!

We had a girls weekend and it couldn't have been nicer. The home is decorated beautifully. The owners of the home put together a binder with all the information for the area which let us know the best restaurants to go to and directions which were easy to manuver. It was so quiet and the back yard is so quaint and private. I recommend this place to anyone who wants to visit the area. Five stars.

My husband and I were due to arrive on Thursday. We were just getting ready to leave our residence and received a call from the owners letting us know that the city decided to work on the road right in front of the cottage. Due to this little inconvenience, the owners not only called us but left us a great surprise in the fridge to make up for something that was beyond their control. I will definitely recommend staying in this cottage. Listing description was accurate. Pictures were spot on... Property was very clean and very well maintained. The cottage also has a secluded patio with grill and fan located in the back. My husband and I loved sitting outside, grilling steaks and having a cocktail. The historic Bay Street is also within walking or biking distance. We will definitely be staying in this same cottage next year!!

                      Owner info

                      Year Purchased: 2009

About the owner: After growing up in FL and spending many years in Texas and Arizona - living in the Washington DC Metro area for 22 years was enough COLD weather for us. As soon as our son went to college, John sold his computer business and we headed to Beaufort! Now he focuses his energy on alternative energy and enjoying the outdoors. I still do Hospitality Interior Design for a major hotel chain, but also spend most of my time enjoying this gorgeous area. Our son visits as often as he can, as do our many wonderful friends. Life is good here in Beaufort!

                      Why the Owner Chose Beaufort:
We bought this little house because it backs up to our other property, VRBO #282865. We love the location and the neighborhood, and we wanted to be able to offer additional accommodations! We also JUST added VRBO #472201 - a spectacular antebellum home we just totally renovated!

The Unique Benefits at this House:
Our guests comment that it is a perfect distance to the waterfront and Bay Street. They love being immersed in the history of the area and being able to walk to everything. It is just far enough to be away from all the weekend noise and traffic, yet still in the heart of it!
