Ansignan house description
This charming light and airy village house is set in the heart of a typically French Roussillon village the origins of which visibly date back to the Roman occupation of the area nearly two thousand years ago. The village perches on the hill top overlooking a beautiful valley filled with vines, olive trees and other fruits. The valley is crossed by a working roman aqueduct built around 64bc by a local merchant - Senator Ansinius - hence the village name of Ansignan. The aqueduct still provides water for the crops growing in the valley.
The house is unusual for a French village home as it features both an extensive roof terrace with panoramic views of the surrounding valley, mountains and village, as well as a charming secluded and protected garden with orange and olive trees as well as three well established vines and romantic shady pergola for dining.
The interior of the house contain 4 good sized double bedrooms as well as a well equipped kitchen with open plan living/dining area. There is also a good sized garage with bikes available for cycling up and down the local mountains gazing the panoramic scenery on offer.
The village has a charming central square with restaurant, bar and small shop. Fresh fruit and vegetables are also sold daily and a visiting bread van arrives each morning.
The beach is a 45 minute drive and skiing in the winter time is an 75 minutes away by car.

Lovely home in a picturesque setting. French character at its best. We loved hiking and exploring around the roman aqueduct and hope to go back very soon!

Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your wonderful home. It is so beautiful here. What a treat to be here. In Florida we don’t have mountains and a cool breeze so we are very much enjoying our time. We are relishing each day. Love it! Thanks again so much!

Very comfortable and home-like house, with the village to explore but vines and hills out the back. Always sun and shade to choose from in the garden, two minutes from a leafy green swimming hole, and castles on crags not far away. Remote enough for real peace but easy too. Hard to leave.
