Nice location in Seward
Nice location in Seward
I stayed for 6 nights here with my daughter, son-in-law, and their two children (ages 1 and 4). On an earlier visit I had stayed one night in Seward with my husband at the Van Gilder; we all wanted to spend more time in Seward and with the little ones, renting a home seemed to be a better choice. We stayed in the upstairs unit. PROS - you don't have to pay ahead of time; location is very convenient (can walk downtown and to the Sea Life Center); lots of storage/shelf space; new carpet throughout; kitchen well-equipped; interesting lay-out has bedrooms quite a distance from each other which worked well in our case; access to Disney Jr. and Nick Jr. was really nice. CONS = the home is showing its age a bit (e.g. some peeling paint, etc.); limited access to washer and dryer (which is in the basement - and you are asked to pay for usage); construction noise (one morning began at 6:30 AM and we were there during a warm spell so had all windows open). Seward is lovely. Do not miss the Sea Life Center and be sure to take a cruise (we took the half day cruise). There is a great playground in a beautiful setting that we visited most days we were there. Great shopping, too. If you head to Anchorage on the way plan to stop at the animal research center and at Aleyska Resort to take the tram up to the restaurant (or you can walk it).

Close to town, typical ranch home
Close to town, typical ranch home
When we walked into this home it was filled with surprises for us. I did not realized this home is separated into three cottages, which the one I booked is the two bed rooms on the first floor, and there is one upstairs and another one on the side of the house. I was expecting to book the home without sharing any walls. The home is exactly what you see, except the last two photo which belongs to another cottage in the house. Which confused me that I thought there are three beds in one room. One room has queen bed and another has two small twin. So if you have 6 people in your group, two persons will have to sleep on the sofa. The house is a typical ranch home, so everything is not as up to date and can use some upgrades, but we only stay for a couple days so it is not a major concern. However, for the surprises, you are only allow to wash clothes from 3-9pm and pay a fee for wash and dry. We found the fee is for the cleaner which was okay. It was inconvenient for us because during those time, we are out enjoying the outdoors, so how are we suppose to wash our clothes? We came from a cruise, so we have some clothes that need to be washed for a week. Another con was we can not use the kitchen to cook any fish otherwise there's a fee. How can you not cook Fish in a fish country? The home can be noise during the morning when people upstairs are up early and you can hear every foot steps they make. Also, the construction across the street did make an addtion to the noises. Lastly, if you shower, you have to make sure upstairs are not showering becuase they have priority on showers. If any of these cons does not bother you, I think it is a fair home and money worth for a couple days. You must try the Glacier hiking if you are in Seward. Have fun and enjoy the breathtaking views.

Owner response: Thank you for your comments. To explain a couple of things that are a little misleading. First: According to all of our information about our 2 bedroom suites, each suite has a queen bed in one bedroom, two twin beds in the second bedroom and a queen murphy bed in the living room. Two queens and 2 twins sleep six people, there is no need for anyone to sleep on a sofa. That is why we limit guests to 6 people, so they all have a real bed to sleep on. We do not advertise a ranch home, a cottage or house. We call our units "2 bedroom suites". It is not our intention to make guests think they have the entire house. We have pictures from both units to show people that there are two units. The picture of the outside of the house shows it is a historical house built in the 1940's. We have updated the important things like the furnace, water lines, electricity, furniture, floor coverings, appliances etc. Second: There is a very good reason for the limited laundry hours. The washer and dryer is there for housekeeping, guests are welcome to use them after work hours. If a guest is using the laundry during our work hours we are unable to complete the housekeeping tasks. If someone needs to use the laundry during our work hours they simply need to ask first if the laundry room is available for their use. Third: The upstairs unit does not have priority over the main floor for the shower. They have the same note. The note asks that if someone is taking a shower, please wait until they are done so you can both get a good hot shower with full water pressure. It is just a courtesy. Fourth: Frying fresh caught fish leaves a fishy smell that is almost impossible to get out. That is why we provide a BBQ. It is a courtesy to future guests that we ask that fish not be fried inside. Just like asking people to not smoke inside. Finally: Most of the hotels in Seward are over $250.00 per night for a simple room that sleeps 4 people maximum. We provide 2 bedrooms, a living area, fully equipped kitchen and private bath for up to 6 people giving them 3 separate private sleeping areas for less then a hotel room. Our suites provide an alternative to people wanting more their money.

Clean & Comfortable!
Thank you so much for the lovely accommodations. Everything was so clean and comfortable. It was a lovely place to come back to each night after our long and busy action packed days!! We loved your touches, the stenciling on the walls, pretty bedding, etc. It is evident that you take great pride in these guest houses and work hard to take care of them. We hope that we can make it back again someday.
