My family and I just rented this home for Friday, Saturday and Sunday night of Labor Day weekend and it was wonderful!!! There were five of us and we still had plenty of room. It was nice having the house over just a room as we have friends in Durango and they came over and we all were able to hang out in the back yard patio. The distance to Main Street is perfect...definitely walking distance to just about everything downtown. The owners even had shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom which worked out perfect as that was the one thing i forgot!!! Thanks again for getting us in on such short notice...It was PERFECT!!!!!Recommended for: Girls getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers.
Owner response: The patio out back is a great little spot to relax, and we are so glad you enjoyed your stay!

This was a charming house that exceeded my expectations. The back yard is very nice and I was able to have other family members over for a small get together. It is close enough to walk downtown but far enough away that it is very quiet. The house was very clean and had everything we needed and more! I would highly recommend this place. The sleeping porch is fine for one adult or two small kids but it could use a curtain on the small window to reduce the summer heat. The owners have installed a window AC unit so the house is very comfortable. I would stay here again!! My sister paid more for her rental and had problems. She thought this house was a great deal and wished she had found it first.Recommended for: Girls getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: It is always enjoyable when we hear that families have gathered in our home. We are happy that you were able to do that! Thanks also for the suggestion regarding a curtain on that small window. I had no idea it was a problem. It will be addressed next month when we are there!

We recently spent a week at this lovely historic home. Perfect location for a romantic, relaxing get away! The decor is superb - adding to the ambiance that you immediately feel as soon as you enter the home. The owner was so helpful in advising us where we might visit to shop and dine, which were all quite unique. The history in this town is just amazing...definitely will return to Durango and this lovely home which is sparkling clean and very well maintained, which was very important to both of us. Thank you for all your suggestions!Recommended for: Girls getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

We were in Durango for a family reunion and spent four nights in this charming little bungalow. The only negative was no air conditioning and temperatures were in the 90s the entire time we were there. Luckily the rest of our family members were staying in homes with air conditioning so we just spent time with them during the day when it was so hot. We enjoyed being so close to the downtown area and within walking distance of everything. Great place to stay!!Recommended for: Girls getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: We are happy that you enjoyed our place. While nighttime temperatures normally keep our home quite comfortable during the day, there have been a few stretches this summer of warmer than usual temperatures in Durango. We have now installed air conditioning, and an additional ceiling fan. Thank you again for sharing your opinion, we appreciate the information!

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2004
About the owner: My husband and I grew up in the Mid-West, but we love the mountains and have been visiting Colorado together regularly since 1985. As parents of three very active children, Durango has provided our family with a great escape from our busy daily lives, and the opportunity to re-focus on what is important.
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes, Downtown:
After MANY years of looking in and around the Durango area, we finally chose to buy a home downtown because of it's proximity to everything the community has to offer. We have spent time vacationing at both Durango Mountain Resort and at Vallecito Lake. Both locations are attractive destinations, and downtown Durango gives us convenient access to each as well as giving us the added benefit of being part of a very relaxed and connected downtown community. We continue to enjoy giving this experience to our children. It is possible to walk to nearly everything, and we have left the car parked for days during our visits. Added bonus, we are able to eat whatever we want and never gain those dreaded vacation pounds! That's a plus, because of the many fine dining opportunities in town.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We continue to enjoy the tall ceilings, the charm, and the history of our place. We have worked hard to stay true to it's architectural heritage when we have made improvements.
As an added note, while we have developed many fond memories in the Durango area, we have also come up with a list of our favorite coffee shops, restaurants, and destinations. If you are interested in suggestions we will be happy to share that list.
Congratulations on your decision to visit Durango. You are in for a treat!
