PRIVATE ISLAND RETREAT
Westport, Ontario, Canada
Kick back and relax at Sleeping Bear Lodge on Summer Island . . . sun, swim, boat, fish, eat, and explore the lake and nearby shops, restaurants and quaint towns. Enjoy your own 3 acre island... a 5 minute boat ride from shore.
Bobs Lake is a fisherman's paradise!...15 miles long with many bays and islands. Big fish are plentiful, so bring your fishing gear! We can supply the boats. This is an unsafe environment for non-swimmers.
This new 2100 square foot timber frame home sleeps 10, with a screen porch, decks, hot tub, TV/DVD, 2.5 baths, fireplace & washer/dryer. A canoe, sailboat, and fishing boat are also provided. No smoking or pets are allowed inside or on the property.
The large kitchen is fully equipped, so you will feel right at home. There are many eating areas. We have an extensive movie library with puzzles & games for rainy days.
Westport is only a 10 minute drive to great shopping, a small fun museum & restaurants. Perth with its old world charm, is 25 minutes north and has restaurants on the Tay River, plays, shops and a must-see town park. For more adventure, Ottawa is 1.5 hrs. northeast with excellent free tours of Parliament, markets & outdoor restaurants. Kingston, 1 hr. south, offers food, shopping, entertainment & ferry tours to Bolt Castle.
Because you will be on an island, a motorized boat is needed to reach the island... and to fully enjoy the lake. Here are 3 boat options:
1) Bring your own boat & launch from the nearby fishing lodge.
2) We have a big 22' pontoon boat with an upper deck that we rent to qualified boaters for $800/wk which is necessary for groups over 4 people. It's upper deck is ideal for sunning, reading & watching the wildlife, while others are fishing off the lower deck. It's also fun to just anchor out and jump in! Swim season is usually from Memorial Day through mid/late September.
3) Westport Village Rental in town rents fishing, pontoon, ski boats & jet skis and will deliver to the lake. www.wvr.ca
Please look at the 'Rates' section for available dates. With no gradual beach area and deep water at our docks, this vacation site is an unsafe environment for non-swimmers.

Just a quick note to tell you how much our clan enjoyed your little island paradise. We had just an incredible week; perfect weather (5 hours of rain - total), great fishing - Caitlyn caught the largest bass, great peace and communing with nature. Oh by the way, the most challenging thing we did all week was your 1000 piece Bear jigsaw puzzle - very challenging and obsessing. I can only compliment you both for your vision, hard work, and attention to detail to craft such a wonderful place. Thanks for allowing us to share the experience. - Doug & family ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We had a wonderful week staying here on "Summer Island". The weather was perfect (only a little rain one day)! It was great for our family to spend such a relaxing week together. The girls loved it! They made a list of all the different animals we saw, went fishing (Caitlyn caught the biggest fish all week!), boating and went on nature hikes around the island with Pop. What a beautiful home! This will be a vacation to be remembered and hopefully revisited one day. -- Erik, Amy, Mackenzie, Caitlyn, Katie,& KevinDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Thank you for welcoming us with open arms into your beautiful "Summer Island" home. This truly is a special place. Being used to our busy lifestyle, we were amazed at how peaceful and quiet it was on the lake. We all enjoyed every boat ride, swim, and fishing trip we took. Our three children were thrilled with the fish they caught. A Big Pike and a Big Bass for each of the boys, and our daughter (age 6) caught her very first fish! We took many pictures and video of our excursions both on and off the island. We managed to go to Perth and enjoyed a Mexican Fiesta for lunch, as well as looking in the shops there. We loved Wheelers and the ride out there in the country. The breakfast was delicious. We also made it into Westport a few times for groceries and shopping. The local country General Store for ice cream was also a favorite. We leave today with fond memories of our vacation and of our time in your amazing (and wonderfully furnished) home. Big Bear Lodge & Summer Island will be remembered as one of our best vacations ever. The children are already asking us to reserve another week next year. They want to make this an annual visit. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear The Riley Family, Thank you for letting us use your home for the week. I loved it. Your TV is bigger than ours. The lake was great. I caught 7 fish. The most in my family. They said I was lucky. My two best fish were a 13" and a 15" five pounds. Thank you very much. We want to come back next year. Thanks! - Patrick (14) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks for your house. It was just like home (and a movie theatre). I even caught (the longest in the family) a 19.5 inch Northern Pike at the island across from here. Thanks, -Chris (11) PS. Hope to come again next year. I hope my dad will get 2 weeks because there is soo much to do.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We came and loved the entire time here. We spent a day in Perth, a day in Westport, played golf 18 holes twice at MapleView Golf Course. It was beautiful weather, sunny days, cool temps, warm sun and a pleasant breeze. John & Bob caught six fish so far... We ate out at the Mexicali Rose in Perth and Fiddleheads also in Perth for drinks and wonderful nachos. Alexander Keith beer from Halifax was the best! Also ate at the Cove in Westport (lunch) and enjoyed the Rideau Museum very much. While in Westport we went to the local bakery on Main St. to buy wonderful bread & a multi-fruit pie. Yum! Had a fantastic trip to Ottawa. Saw the changing of the guard...We recommend touring the Parliament building and the Art Museum. Another great day here! - Molly It has been a wonderful week. Only problem---it went by so fast. Just want to thank you for allowing us to experience your beautiful home on Summer Island. It is certainly a beautiful, relaxing, and awesome setting. We had a great time fishing, reading, touring, playing golf---and just sitting and enjoying this fantastic beautiful place. Thanks again for allowing us to experience this privilege. - John I wish we had time to spend more of it in Westport. The Post Master was wonderful, we had quite a conversation with him. DO NOT MISS the Village Green shop. I bought so many things there! Also, go to both bakeries & Rosie Yumski's. - Bob & LutziDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for sharing your "Summer Island" with us. Your home is so wonderful--- warm & inviting! So beautifully decorated!... It was quite chilly but the fireplace & stove kept us warm. We enjoyed hearing the "hoot owl" at night... Friday we spent a fun 5 hrs. in Westport. We loved the quaint shops (I even did Christmas shopping) & had a nice dinner at the Cove. We had a wonderful day!... Saturday woke up to brilliant sunshine reflecting off the lake---gorgeous! Joy sat in the sun & read all afternoon; Todd fished off dock & saw a beaver go into the water. Lake calm---like glass... fish jumping. Near dark, saw 2 otters dive off Summer Island & swim and frolic in the lake. Went in hot tub---relaxing!...Great movie selection!... Thank you!!!Did you find this review helpful? Why the Owner Chose Bobs Lake:
In 2000 our friends announced that they were buying an island in Canada on Bobs Lake. We thought they were crazy! But the next summer we decided to vacation with them and we all had so much fun...swimming, fishing, boating, tubing, eating together, watching movies & turtles sunning, the loons, playing games and star gazing. On a clear night on the lake, you can see millions of stars. We returned the next summer, and the next with our college kids, who had a blast. We were hooked! In 2003 we also bought an island on Bobs Lake about 10 miles north of our good friends! Construction was completed in 2004.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Peace, solitude. Watching the wildlife...loons, beaver, muscrat, herons, osprey, piliated woodpeckers, turtles; kayaking, relaxing in the hot tub watching shooting stars, star gazing, sunning on the pontoon boat, great fishing & swimming, sitting by the fire, working puzzles, reading.
