We LOVED our stay here and plan on returning again. The condo was very clean. The close access to the washer and dryer, general location to the pool and boardwalk were real bonuses. And since I was cooking almost all of our meals there, it was great not having to pack pots ,pans, dishes and such. We loved being able to look out at the pool and see whether or not it was busy before having to get dressed and walk there to find that out. The beach was absoulutely gorgeous and CLEAN and not croweded! I really enjoyed being able to see the ocean from the kitchen, den and porch. Oh, and we were told by the island that no white lights or camera flashes are allowed on the beach at night from May-Oct (because of the turtles). We found out from a couple that lives there that you can cover your flash light with a colored (but still translucent) solo cup or colored saran wrap or just use a red or blue light if you want to walk the beach at night. They said that is when you find tons of shells and crabs and conch shells all over the beach. We didn't find that out until our last day there, so we weren't able to try that. The owner was quick to respond to any emails that we sent asking questions....even during our stay. I would definitely recommend this condo to anyone wanting a QUIET beach getaway. If you want to go on vacation and just go to the beach or spend time in the pool, then this is your place. The closest grocery store is 15 minutes away so make sure you take your food/spices/drinks and condiments with you. Wal-Mart is about 20-25 minutes away. The grill is located in a communal area just behind the pools, but it is in full sun during the day, so keep that in mind if you plan on grilling out for lunch. For entertainment out, we went to the HWY 21 drive in theater one night. Can't beat being able to watch 2 new release movies for $7/person! We went out to eat one night at the Foolish Frog. My husband says that they were the best fried scallops he has ever eaten. We cooked the rest of our meals there in the condo. And for a sweet treat, we stopped at Crave CupCake Boutique in downtown Beaufort for cupcakes on our way home. We also went to Hunting Island State Park while there and climbed the 167 steps up the lighthouse and spent time on that beach as well. It is also very clean. WE LOVED LOVED LOVED our time there. Pack your clothes, toiletries, food, spices, condiments and drinks and head on down there! Check FB for pics that I took.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

What a relaxing, peaceful vacation. The condo was like a home away from home, very clean and inviting. It rained our first night there but the screened porch was a great way to spend a rainy night. We even got to enjoy watching a school of dolphins swim while lounging on the beach. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a peaceful, serene place to enjoy some down time!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I suppose that anyplace would pale in comparison after having spent 2 1/2 days/nights in a very nice suite at a Hilton. However, this condo needs some refurbishment. Bed slept well, but towels and furniture cushions, pillows were old and need replacing. One of the toilet seats was broken - a new one was installed while we were there. Other than this, the place was serviceable and handy to the laundry room (right next door). It is also VERY important to know that the beach where you can swim is about 2 1/2 - 3 miles away at Hunting Island State Park. However, I was grateful to be able to stay in this area and to absorb some of the very unique culture and beauty - nearby Beaufort was the place where many of the scenes from the movie "Forrest Gump" was filmed - a neat, neat place!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: We are advised not to swim in the ocean when there are riptides. There are three pools on the island and one is right outside the screened patio of this villa. Each guest is called to confirm safe arrival and ask if the villa is ok. Anything reported is addressed (like the broken toilet seat). New bedroom furniture & rugs were put in new 2 years ago adding more dresser drawers, a jewelry drawer, a phone and TV to the bedroom. The stove and refrigerator were replaced new last year. The heat pump that resides on the roof exposed to the elements is to be replaced this year. Living room updates are planned. There have been no increases in rental rates for this villa since 2003 (gate fees decided upon by the Home Owners Association have increased some). Constructive criticism is welcomed. Significant health issues have prevented owner visits to the villa since June 2009 but new linens, towels and pillows are on the way. We aim to please our guests!

We enjoyed our stay here. The island is beautiful, Beaufort isn't too far away, and the cove a block away covered with herons and egrets at roosting time in the evenings and early morning was amazing. The fitness room is great. The owner was thoughtful to call us the evening of our arrival to make sure everything was OK, and it was. The unit is exactly as advertised and reasonably priced, and we have no complaints other than we didn't get much sleep. It's not the owner's fault, but like many first floor units, especially where everyone has hardwood or tile floors, we heard a lot of noise from the people upstairs. They were up at 5:00 am every morning, and we literally heard every foot step. I hesitated to mention this, but I'm afraid the noise, during the day as well, really was more intrusive than any place I have ever lived or visited. My wife and I are not particulary light sleepers, but it was a real problem. It was unfortunately made worse because we were inside more than normal, because it was cold and wet the weekend we were there. In all other respects I would recommend this place, but if you're light sleepers or the sound of "the people upstairs" might be an issue for you, I suggest a little caution.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway.
Owner response: The unit upstairs is not always rented and not all upstairs occupants are noisy. When there are occupants who are noisy, I have called the frontgate and talked with them about the problem. A guard will come down and talk with the occupants about the noise and ways to correct the challenge. I have gotten good results by doing this. Some occupants said they didn't realize they were distrubing others. All were cooperative. annette

This is an excellent place for a relaxing vacation. Very peaceful. The natural (non-man made) beach is awesome. The previous person the wrote a review went during spring break when kids are out of school. I would suggest going at a different time, if you prefer less kids. I give Harbor Island an A+! I will definately return!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This was my second trip in this condo and it was excellent as was the firstvisit. It was clean and beautifully decorated and the owner was so helpful. Our friends loved it and want to go back again. It was so peacful with so much to see and do. I'd recomend it all ages who like fun and fishing at the beautiful beach. And the long walks were spectacular. Will return again as soon as possible. I have been to Hunting Island @ Beaufort, S.C. many times off & on since I was a child but I had never visited Harbor Island. I stayed @ this condo in August of 2007 & this place is awesome! A little piece of Heaven right off the highway in the middle of nowhere, that makes you realize and appreciate the simple things in life. We hope and plan to come back in the future! Thanks so much!" This is the place to come if you need to totally relax & enjoy the beauty & the peace that only this island can offer!
