Welcome to our new 4 BR, 2489 sq ft Big Island home, located at KaMilo, a private resort within the famous Mauna Lani Resort! Our gourmet kitchen is equipped with African Mahogany cabinets, Thermador stainless steel appliances and granite counters. Up to 10 adults can be comfortably accommodated in 2 master bedrooms with California king beds, ensuite bathrooms, and walk-in closets; a 3rd BR with queen bed and 4th BR with 2 double size beds (not twins!) Pocket doors open the great room living space to the upper lanai with Wolf grill. All bedrooms have 32'' HDTVs and DVD players with digital cable. The great room has a 48'' 1081p LED HDTV, Blue Ray DVD player, HD cable box and surround sound stereo system (5.1 Dolby)

This property was great for our family, including adult children and grandchildren, for the last 2 years.Living area is spacious with excellent cooking opportunities, including the lanai grill. We loved the pool, hot tub and exercise complex and had some fun family cookouts there--the young children really loved it. The property is very close to a well-stocked local store with groceries and other needed things--Foodland--best in the area. There were also fun events in the shops nearby which all of us enjoyed. Going to the Beach Club with the provided pass--a lovely beach in the complex with parking limited to owners--was super. So easy and great. The property is well maintained and the owner very attentive to detail.We really appreciate all the time we have had here. A gem.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, families with young children, age 55+.

My wife and I have been coming to the Big Island for the last five years. We have tried all sorts of accommodations from The Orchid to other condos. Tom's place is by far the best place we have stayed in... period. First off, you always hear about location, location, location. Other than being right on the ocean, this is the best location. A quick walk to a small mall that has everything from a supermarket to clothing stores, to great dinner places (Ruth Chris, Tommy Bahama, etc). There is a snorkeling rental shop and the list goes on. Very convenient. This is also the place on the island that has the least amount of rain!! This year we decided to bring our kids... daughter 25, her boy friend, my son 22 and my sister and her husband. A total of 7 adults that normally do not live together. Sounds like a good sitcom! Tom's place is so well laid out that everyone had their own space. The great room that includes the kitchen, the living room and dining room was the place we mostly stayed. Since there is a huge lanai off this area it allowed yet another space. This certainly made the stay nice. The amenities were great. The kitchen was well equipped and big enough to let three or four people work at the same time. The kitchen island was huge and turned into a place we all got together. The only comments we have are around the pots and pans... they worked ok, but are getting tired. (hint, hint Tom.. ;-) ). There was also free wireless that worked great. The beds were very comfortable and the bathrooms were well equipped and very clean. We heeded Tom's advice and turned the air conditioning off when we left the home. This worked out fine and in-fact there were many times we forgot to turn it back on as we would open windows when we got home and the breeze would keep the temperature perfect. The access to the beach works just fine as we would load up the cars and this would save us lugging things. The beach was amazing and there is even a restaurant right there. I am trying to find something wrong with this place and I cannot. The entire experience was so positive from the initial engagement with Tom to his great home and even how quickly he dealt with a couple of small items that popped up. I plan to rent this place again and have told many of my friends about it. I give it two thumbs up!!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, age 55+.

We just returned from a great week on the big island. This home was wonderful. Lots of attention to detail - the open air main living area was wonderful. The house is very well equipped and was overkill for our family of 4 with 5 year and 9 month old boys. Everything from the wolf BBQ to being equipped with wine glasses, to having simple beach supplies, to the ceiling mounted master shower-head, to providing a portable infant crib. As previously mentioned, the 4th bedroom is really an open space with a very nice pull out divider, but this worked perfectly for the kids just outside of the master. The beachclub is a five minute drive with easy parking and a spectacular snorkeling and kids beach - great combo and even with the outdoor restaurant. Foodland and Kimobean (Im addicted to their Mocha) are about a 10 minute walk/1 minute drive. The Mauna Lani is a beautiful resort on a beautiful island. BTW we stayed at the Mauna Lani Hotel last year and really liked staying in the house in the same resort. We missed being Ocean Front, room service, and maid service. BUT, cant say enough about hanging out upstairs overlooking the golf course and palm trees in the Big Island wind with a glass of wine and great BBQ. We *really* enjoyed grilling fresh fish, hanging out on the upstairs Lanai or in the Open Area great room. Great week, great house. And, btw, Tom was most excellent to deal with.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

This place was perfect for our group of friends (3 couples and 2 singles). Everyone had their own privacy, flat screen, and lanai. I do have to say the amenities here are very high tech and if you are not savvy with technology, I suggest you meet with the property manager, Lissette who was very accommodating, so she can show you how to operate everything. The owner, Tom is also very accessible when a problem arose. The only real issue which was more of an inconvenience, was the lack of a working ice machine, which is a must in Hawaii. Tom had immediately contacted a repairman, but since everything runs on Hawaiian time, we just bought our own ice. I'm sure by the time I have this written and if not sooner, Tom will have fixed it. As stated in a previous review, there are now screens on the lanai doors. The owners have provided plenty of accessories for the use of tenants that make any visit complete, which included beach towels, a cooler, beach chairs and boogie boards. Being that the subdivision is still fairly new (warning, there is still construction going on, but it's only during the daytime hours and the week days), a walk at night to the clubhouse is very dark, so the owners have also provided several flashlights. No detail was left unattended. The home was well stocked throughout and there wasn't much we needed that wasn't provided. Our first visit to the Big Island was welcoming due in large part to the owner's thoughtfulness to their guests. For the price, this is an excellent value. I would definitely recommend this place for groups, families and relatives.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, tourists without a car, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: After 4 unsuccessful attempts to fix the ice maker, Thermador has decided to replace the refrig/freezer, under warranty! Glad you enjoyed your stay.

I HIGHLY recommend staying at Kamilo. Great pools just steps away, state of the art workout center, golf out the back door and the private beach is to die for! It could not have been better and will from now on be an annual family trip. Note, there is a local grocery store and shops just a minute or so down the road, and the Fairmont Orchid is a short walk. Also, the private beach has a great restaurant/bar and also rents paddleboards, surf boards, scuba diving etc. The beach is also great for snorkling. I could go on and on. It's worth it!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.

We stayed in this condo for a week in March 2010. All together, there were 12 people (4 families) in the condo total (8 adults, 2 children ages 8 & 5, and two infants). None of us had ever been to the Big Island before. and weren't sure what to expect. All in all, our experience couldn't have been better. Tom (condo owner) was wonderful to work with, and promptly answered all our questions. The condo was excellent--there was ample space for all of us, the kitchen was a dream to work in, the lanai a perfect spot for early morning coffee (as well as for the children and their toys!), and the condo itself is well-situated in terms of access to beaches, grocery stores, and shopping. The laundry facilities were excellent, we used the grill on the lanai many times, the boogie boards in the garage were available for our use (we used them a lot) and the stack of guidebooks on the coffee table came in handy on multiple occasions! We couldn't have chosen a better place to stay, and would highly recommend this condo to anyone looking to stay on the Kohala Coast. In fact, we've all discussed renting this condo again the next time we vacation on the Big Island. This is absolutely a 5 star condo, and had I been able to give it 4.5 stars, I would have. Reason for the downgrade to 4.5 stars? First, one of the bedrooms has a "moveable wall" separating it from the rest of the house. Thus, while whoever stays in that bedroom technically has privacy from the rest of the house, the wall does not block out any noise. It was fine while we were there, as the couple who stayed in the room are normally early risers, but they did comment once or twice that they would have appreciated better noise control. Secondly, the back bedroom was lacking a screen door as part of the sliding glass doors. The Big Island is very windy, and we would have appreciated being able to have the sliding door open all night both for fresh air, as well as being able to listen to the wind. Because the screen door was lacking, we couldn't keep the sliding doors open at night. All in all, these things are really quite minor, and I expect Tom will add a screen door as soon as he can. We had a fabulous week on the Big Island, and renting this condo was a large part of why we had such a great time. We would highly recommend it to anyone looking to rent a place where having a lot of space is a necessity.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: Screen had been order when house purchased but was mistakenly returned twice by Developer. It finally got installed to everyone's relief! After 4 unsuccessful attempts to repair ice maker, the Thermador repairman has requested a replacement refrigerator/freezer but estimates 1 mo to deliver!
