This peaceful gated property is located just outside of Ubud. We stayed in the Java House. It is a two-story, three bedroom guesthouse with two outdoor bathrooms. The outdoor bathrooms are fantastic! The top half of the house is a 100 year-old Java home the owner had shipped from Jakarta. It has lovely intricacies about it! The bedding has mosquito netting. Mosquitos were present but NEVER a problem during our stay. There was a resident Monkey who liked to visit us in early morning hours but he too was never a problem. Since the release of Eat, Pray, Love, the town of Ubud is booming with visitors (with its delicious organic cuisine and its lovely art we now understand why) and was less peaceful than we imagined but as soon we stepped back into Pelangi we found escape in its tranquility. Our serenity restored! Pelangi has been carefully designed to make you feel at home away from home. Each room has been artfully arranged. The rooms are very clean and the bedding has very comfortable linens. There are two bikes available for use however the road was under construction while we were there so we didn't ever venture out on bike. The view of the jungle and river is breathtaking! Carolyn is a beautiful soul and a true pleasure to talk to (if you are lucky enough to find her here during your stay) Her Balinese staff is eager to help make your stay wonderful. Each morning, a beautiful array of fresh fruit was served with toast and tea! Pelangi is sure to please even the most discriminating traveler!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

We've been to Bali four times, and this was the most beautiful Estate we ever stayed at. The beauty of the Pelangi Estate is only surpassed by the enchanted nature that surrounds it. Perched above the river, we were nestled in our exquisitely appointed antique Java house. In the morning we would wake up to beautiful sounds of the river and hop into the gorgeous pool with it's refreshing water features pouring down on us. After a session of yoga, we enjoyed our lovely breakfasts on the serene veranda. We loved the rock crested outdoor showers and bathroom, which was very spacious and created this harmonious indoor-outdoor experience. After full days of visiting Bali, upon returning to our villa, we would curl up on the antique sofa and feel perfectly content at home. We felt very cared for by the kind hearted staff, they treated us like family. Visitors are very fortunate to have a property owner who cares so much for every detail, we simply never wanted to leave this oasis.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2010
About the owner: I fell in love with Bali and her gracious, smiling people on my first visit in 1989 and it quickly became clear that I belonged here. I closed my advertising agency in California and moved to Ubud in 1993. Design, travel, music and photography are my passions. Designing the villas on this property has been a labor of love-- a colorful, exotic, and comfortable living environment to share with friends, family, and fellow travelers.
Why the Owner Chose Ubud:
My partner and I chose this land (which I had my eye on since my first trip to Bali!) to create our tropical Shangri La because it is near to town, yet is secluded and peaceful. It overlooks a gently flowing river and waterfalls which create a magical ambience, and the sound of water is so calming. To me, Ubud is the most beautiful, soul-nourishing place in the world. We hope you feel the same when you stay here.
The Unique Benefits at this Estate:
The best thing about the property is our amazingly gracious staff of 20 years. They embody the quintessence of Balinese hospitality-- thoughtful, polite, sensitive to guests needs, and ever-smiling. Rati is the property manager who oversees the staff, Wira is the house manager and concierge, Kadek is a fantastic cook, and a first-rate masseuse, and daily maid. Nyoman is the safest driver I've ever known. Pak Tut, the chief groundskeeper will take you on a tour of the river valley and rice fields you will remember forever. Gusti and Sandi are your night security guards, but you won't need much protection inside the security-gated and walled property. There are not many places in the world where you can still leave all your doors and windows open 24/7, but this is one.
The gardens are spectacular-- a haven for butterflies, birds, and fireflies at night. Having a meal on any of the outside lanais, with the sound of the waterfalls and the fresh breeze is pure heaven. Riverside massages by spa-trained staff in the shade of the coconut palms, and early morning rice field hikes will become favorite pastimes. Morning yoga and workout routines outdoors in the garden or indoors on the smooth hardwood floors are a great way to start the day. We have weights, bands, and workout videos if yoga isn't your cup of tea. The master suite has a Farr infrared detoxing sauna, which feels great after working up a sweat, as does a dip in the refreshing saltwater pool or river.
On request, the staff can make fresh organic juices; they are well-versed in making healthy meals. This is a perfect respite for creative people, writers and artists who like to be out of the fray, but need all the modern conveniences like cell reception and wireless internet. The comment we get most from guests is 'we never want to leave!', which is about the best compliment there is.
