We’re delighted to be back after 4 years. The cottage is just as we remembered it: so warm and welcoming; so neat and clean. The weather was perfect: a nice balance of cool and clear, mixed with sunny and overcast conditions. No fog. There was a soft rain one night which lulled us to sleep after the most spectacular double rainbow. Only one of the arcs was complete, but the effect was breathtaking as they both rose over Bar Island – certainly a sight none of us will every forget. We foraged for mussels and other shellfish every day with great success. Fiona sighted dolphins one day, and the eagles were with us every day, sometimes flying so close to the deck one could almost touch them. There appears to be some nest-building activity and some boundary setting between adults and immature birds. On our last trip we took day trips to the Bar Harbor/Acadia/Ellsworth areas. This time we went north to Lubec/Campobello/Cutler/Machias. The many maps and books and brochures were useful – helpful – and deeply appreciated. Thank you, Mike and Cindy, for your many thoughtful appointments throughout, including notes and scrapbooks! The week has flown by, and we will miss the grandeur of the Bold Coast in its raw juxtaposition to this cozy cottage.

Truly this is the ideal “cottage by the sea.” We arrived late on Saturday when it was dark. We all were tired and went right to sleep. Our introduction to Maine was this breathtaking view. Each morning we spent time, drinking coffee and taking in the awesome coast. As true to our tourist nature, we traveled from Campobello to Bass Harbor, taking in the local sites one afternoon at a time. Despite the travel, we still took time in the morning to enjoy the cottage. Some of the more memorable local sites: watching harbor seals along the coast at Great Wass Island Nature Conservancy, discovering the unique sound of the ocean waves on pebbles at Jasper Beach; being entertained by the Machias historical society at Barnham Tavern; eating fresh caught lobster and mussels; and of course blueberries, blueberries, blueberries! We had a wonderful week and a true Maine experience. Thanks!

What a wonderful place for a Maine family vacation! We enjoyed breakfast on the deck and the wonderful views. We visited a local blueberry farm and had fun at the Machias blueberry festival. Day trips to Acadia and seak kayaking were offset with lazy days here at the cottage. Thanks for making this place easy to vacation in by providing so many of the basics – it makes the whole experience all the better.

What an amazing vacation! It’s hard to believe our week is already over. Perfect weather, cool mornings and evenings, warm days. Beautiful views! We really enjoyed the peace and quiet. We were also lucky enough to meet with some locals; we took a short trip in the causeway on their lobster boat and Curt went out with them the next morning. To do lobster fishing, eight miles out. Thanks for making this the honeymoon of a lifetime!

Cindy and Mike, What a charming place; it was one of the best vacations we've had. The view is breath-taking and a pleasure to wake up to every day. The lobsters were fantastic, had the pleasure of meeting someone that give us the connection to buy them. The neighbors next door were very nice and gave us some good tips onwhat to enjoy during our stay. Thanks for making our stay in Jonesport such a pleasure.

We arrived at “Cottage by the Sea” tired and hungry. We were not disappointed with the cottage. You have a “like home” abode by a sea resplendent in sounds, waterfowl, smells, a full moon, amazing sunrises, diligent lobstermen and on and on. I’ve quickly settled in. As first-timers to Maine, we spent more time in the car than at the cottage - Bar Harbor, Acadia Natl. Park, Eastport, Jasper Beach, W.Quoddy Lighthouse, Ellsworth, Winter Harbor, Machias, Schoodic Peninsula (which we felt was more beautiful than Acadia). The fall colors were at peak. We did some antiquing, saw the eagles twice, but that was thrilling! Lots of loons and surf scooters, cormorants – no moose, though, but a strange fin swimming along the rocks, just after low tide was ending. Was able to spend several hours on the “path” to Bar Island – what a shelling overload. Brought home a bag of shells! I wish we had another week to just relax, but we must head home tomorrow. We had a great time. You have a wonderful cottage and have it filled with everything one would need away from home.

The adventure of ours is the true story that parallels a fantasy. We live in a little seaside town in MA. In the summer it gets very hectic, similar to the crowds in the first Jaws movie! Just like the wizard of Oz, our house began to “twitch” on the early Saturday morning that we headed up the coast along with Hurricane Danny. The next day when we awoke, we were not in MA anymore! I looked out to the sea and saw all the beauty that gets lost and taken for granted. I thought that maybe even “Glinda” may float down in her bubble from the north, but she wasn’t suited on this trip. But now, even though I don’t want to, I must click my flip-flops together 3 times and go home. Thank you for letting us share in your joy! Happiness shared is delight doubled. Like all the other people before us, we didn’t want to leave. It was a home.

Restful and relaxing cottage with spectacular view. Hiked down to the beach and took a swim. Visited Campobello, West Quoddy, Jasper Beach, Schoodic Point, and the garden at Great Wass Island. The trails on Beal’s Island were challenging! Jonesport is very laid back with friendly people and this area shows what the real “down east” Maine is actually like. You have done such a super job on the cottage and we were amazed at all the little details you have thought of that makes it such a pleasant experience to stay there. Thanks for letting us rent it and we hope to be able to return in the future.

Our two-week stay here at your cottage was a great get-away for us. Life seems to slow down here. As others have said, the townsfolk are so nice and friendly. Loved Blueberry Hut. We dined at Chandler and Riverside, but lobster and scallops at Bluebird was our favorite. Your book was ever so helpful here. Campobello and the light house was our favorite side trip. Played golf at Barren View. The kitchen here is so well-equipped. Thank you and may the Lord bless you for sharing the beautiful ocean scenery. Neal and JoAnne, TN

About the owner: We are retired educators - Mike was a science teacher, principal, and associate superintendent. Cindy taught 5th grade, special education, and spent her last 15 years in education as a high school counselor. Mike grew up in northern California, and Cindy is a Minnesotan. We currently split out time between Lake Tahoe, Nevada, Goodyear, Arizona, and Jonesport, Maine. We have five children and ten grandchildren. Why the Owner Chose Jonesport:
Jonesport is unique in that it exemplifies Maine. Most tourists don't travel north of Bar Harbor, yet there is a beautiful coast and pretty villages. Jonesport has one of the world's largest lobster fishing fleets. The town is quaint with it's harbor, white church steeples, and friendly people.
