I needed a few days to just getaway from the everyday stuff that was going on in my life. I needed a time to think, pray, be alone, and figure out things. This vacation rental was the perfect place for that! I thoroughly enjoyed my time there at the Serenity Cottage in Murphys! Margaret made sure I had everything I needed, and keeps the place up just wonderfully! There is a lot of land to explore and hike/walk around. The little cottage was just perfect, with full amenities, everything needed for a short stay! I would definitely come back again and recommend it to friends.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

What a cute little place and Margaret is great! I rented this place for a quick little family get away. Mind you it is missing some everyday items like cable, internet and phone service but it is perfect to spend quality time with your loved ones. Zippy the cat is a lover and Star the horse is sweet. We loved feeding and petting Star. I would have given this a higerh rating if it was up-to-date (much older house, appliances, no cable,no fan in the day bed room, etc) but I would stay there again. Thank you again Margaret for the great trip and wonderful conversations!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you Amanda. It was great to meet you and some of your family. So glad everyone had a great time. Although all the appliances are new with the exception of the range and refrigerator which are a few years old but clean and in good working order, we welcome your comments and have added a fan in the day bed room so that our guests will be as comfortable as possible. We look forward to seeing you again.

As the photos indicate - this is a retreat away from the bustle of the road & cities. And although you'll need your car to get to this "out of the city" location - the only traffic jams you'll find are among the squirrels fighting for the acorns! It felt like we took a step back in California History and enjoyed peace & nature at it's best. This is a quaint vacation cottage that provides the basic comforts of home - and for those who need to know - that means "un-plugged" for the most part. Upon arrival, the thoughtful owner surprised us with her home baked goodies -- just like a good friend welcoming you to your new neighborhood! Next trip - my husband & I will plan to book more than two nights - and use this as a "home base" for travels rather than staying at other locations up/down Hwy. 49 as day trips can easily take us to wineries North & South, Historic sites & up to the Calaveras Trees to return "home" for a quiet rest at night. And bring your "star gazing map & telescope" to enjoy nights stargazing under a clear & stellar sky! Of course, the entire experience will entice you to return -- the sunsets, our new best equine friend "Star" and the morning bird songs calling us back!Recommended for: Age 55+.

TheTom turkey and his flock were fun to watch, and the cat is crazy! We also saw some western tanagers on the red hot poker flowers. All in all, a very enjoyable four days.Recommended for: Age 55+.

About the owner: I love nature & the country and have enjoyed water sports, gold prospecting, photography & wild life so when we came across this property it was near Lake Melones, had seasonal creeks with a small lake and had so much of what I love. The land is composed of gold mining claims and a Homestead. This beautiful property has much history and is being developed into a Biblical Garden. Many trees, Trails & meditation sites have been added for the enjoyment of visitors and to attract birds,, butterflies and other wild life. There is also a fellowship hall and a small chapel. The property has been used for Weddings, Baptisms, Prayer Meetings, Day retreats, family reunions, school group outings, Passover & other Religious celebrations and much more. The use of the Fellowship Hall, outdoor stage and other areas are available for events with or without the rental of the vacation rentals. The development of the Biblical Garden is an ongoing proess with new sites and trails being added. This property is great for those wanting to get away, relax, enjoy time with nature and get back in touch with themselves and loved ones. Many have come only to find that they love it here so much that they keep coming back and have become great friends of ours. We look forward to meeting you.
