Private Wine Country Getaway - Walking Distance to Glen Ellen
- Minimum stay:2-3 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Enjoy the wine country in Glen Ellen, just 55 minutes north of the Golden Gate, or 15 minutes from the Sonoma Town Square! It is the enchanted area of writer Jack London, wineries like Benziger, sophisticated restaurants, or just the bliss of relaxing with a local glass of wine, get the grill going, and prepare something from the incredible selection at Glen Ellen Market ...
This wine country cottage provides you with a cozy atmosphere, closeness to goodness in Glen Ellen, outside space to use for breakfast, lunch or dinner. While not a large house it's elegantly furnished, has two rooms with comfortable beds (one with a free-standing wardrobe instead of a closet though), a full-size kitchen, and the great Sonoma Wine Country all around it.
There are numerous olive trees on the property, roses in the front, a great picknick area out back and on its west side (great for sunsets), a heat lamp in case an evening may be chilly, direct access to Warm Springs Road for those who love riding their bikes here, and it is literally surrounded by tasting rooms within a 15 minute driving radius.
It is close to the Sonoma Valley Regional Park (great for running and hiking!), or the famous Jack London park with its Jack London Museum and peaceful gardens. Drive up to Morton's Warm Springs and dip into their pools, or drive over the scenic Warm Springs Road to the Kenwood area for more wine tasting than may fit into a single weekend - or just walk to Glen Ellen, with its variety of restaurants, a tasting room, the GE market, or the Jack London Lounge and Bar.
Lots of room for dogs to safely roam as its 0.6 acres are fully enclosed by a beautiful redwood fence that also provides additional privacy. It's also adjacent to a large former 2 acre orchard with no building on it, adding to the green scenery and secluded feeling of the place.

The listing description is accurate in every respect. The fully fenced yard was great for our five month old puppy. The bbq and outdoor fireplace were absolutely wonderful. Groceries and restaurants in walking distance. Sonoma Square and Friday outdoor market only a short drive away. The place reflects pride of ownership. We would definitely stay here again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We really enjoyed our stay at Glen Ellen. The cottage was very cozy and for a small structure it has a lot of rooms and a good layout. The property is large and quiet and has a nice feel to it with all the birds flying around the yard. We would definitely stay there again. It was very easy and convinient to get there and it is centrally located. The owner is great and easy going and the place was clean and had everything we could need.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Me and my husband (and dog) stayed here while we were in town for a wedding. The house was situated on a huge property with a nice outside area with plenty of outside seating. The house itself was on the smaller side, but it was very well kept and had everything we needed for the weekend. Would definitely recommend staying there!Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway.

We have just spent four days in the GE Cottage and it was amazing. The location is excellent, the property itself is immaculately presented and the owner's attention to detail leaves you wanting for nothing. We were two adult couples and we had plenty of room to relax and enjoy the cottage and the surrounding area. We would definitely recommend a stay at the GE Cottage. The owner also provides excellent reference guides to the area in and around Glen Ellen, including the various wine estates in Sonoma?Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 4/4

My husband and I enjoyed an absolutely wonderful extended weekend in this lovely cottage with all the necessary amenities. The owner has thought of everything. We walked into town for dinner and cocktails, hiked in the park around the reservoir, and were frequent visitors at the Glen Ellen Market for all our shopping needs. We visited local wineries in town, also within walking distance, and appreciated the extensive travel guide/binder created by the owner. The large, enclosed yard was perfect for the dog and private outdoor dining. We highly recommend this charming cottage/property and will definitely return in the near future!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

We spent 4 lovely days in Glen Ellen with our 7 year old son and 4 year old Lab at this charming cottage. The house is a perfect, cozy escape with a huge outdoor property that makes you feel quite remote but within minutes of the Village –very relaxing and the house was set up just right for us. Super comfy beds and pillows and really cute living room. We were able to enjoy some wine tasting but also provide some fun for our son and dog too. Being able to walk to the village was priceless! We had some great dinners at The Fig Café (favorite for sure) and Glen Ellen Inn, brunch with our doggie at the Courtyard Cafe (they have a doggie menu & kids menu!). The Glen Ellen Market has an awesome selection of goodies. Of course we enjoyed some great wine tasting - if you have kids and/or dogs Benzinger is a hit for sure. Wine Country Chocolates at Jack London Village was perfect for some chocolate tasting, a delight for anyone! Our son enjoyed playing some soccer in the yard and running around with a side trip for mini-golf at Scandia Fun Center in Rohnert Park - easy & very pretty drive from the cottage on the back roads. Elizabeth Perrone Dog Park was a great dog park just down the street from Arrowood Winery. Georg is an absolute pleasure to work with and had great recommendations. This little gem would be perfect any time of the year!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

It's been almost 2 months since we stayed at Georg's cozy Glen Ellen cottage and boy, do I miss it! What a comfortable, perfect base for an escape to wine county. We had our 6 and 10 year old with us and they were in heaven! The yard is delightful for kids and adults alike. The house is very clean, cute and comfortable. And Glen Ellen is great little town...quaint and what I envision wine country was prior to its fame. The Glen Ellen Market is a foodie's dream! And The Fig Cafe and Wine Bar is surprisingly delicious (ended up going twice, it was so good! Oh, and no corkage fee, so bring your newfound favorite bottle of red!). I would be thrilled to get back to Glen Ellen and would stay here without question!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 8/8

Owner info

About the owner: I've always dreamed about a place in the wine country - and now I'd love to share it with you! I live in San Francisco, and would be more then happy to help with recommendations in town, in the wine country, in Napa, or up and down the Pacific Coast as I love to explore this wonderful part of California. I'm a huge fan of the culture and life style in Sonoma. You'll love it too!
Why the Owner Chose Glen Ellen:
It's perfect: Lots of wine tasting, great weather, close to San Francisco - I live in Noe Valley, and it takes me just 1 hour and 15 minutes to drive up, observing the speed limit all the way (huge recommendation - do not speed!! They're always out there ...). The house is cozy, lots of room around it as I like to be outside most of the time, and while small inside it has everything you'd ever need.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
It's tranquil, great wine in the area, one could be out grilling all night (there's also a heat lamp if it get chilly), or I just walk or bike into Glen Ellen, get a (for SF standards reasonable) massage at the Magic Massage Place (in a wine barrel!), or enjoy one of the restaurants in Glen Ellen or Jack London Village. While being sophisticated, the area completely lacks any snobbery, is not overrun by tourists like some areas in Napa Valley, but if you do love to go up to Calistoga for instance to dip into the hot springs up there it's not really that far and it's a great scenic drive. Usually I'm just perfectly happy when driving into this little retreat after a day of exploring Sonoma County, preferably in a convertible during a nice sunny day ...
