Caleta Iguana (Beach House in Isabela Island, Galapagos)

Caleta Iguana (Casa Rosada) is a small popular beach house located in Puerto Villamil- Isabela, in the Galapagos Islands.
The house has 400m2 with 7 ample rooms and our private beach has 600m2 where you can enjoy our bar, volleyball court, toilets and recliner chairs.
In the first floor we have 2 rooms and some of our biggest social areas. We have a very large lounge with a library (book exchange and board games), an LCD TV with many movies to choose from, a dinner table and a very large kitchen with everything you might need. Outside, towards the beach there is a terrace with a Grill and BBQ area with tables, chairs, hammocks in the trees and the ocean just a few feet away.
On the second floor you will find most of the rooms (5), as well as a shared bathroom, a social area with a card playing table and a huge deck with hammocks and reclining chairs.
The house has a unique energy and soul which is transmitted back to its guests. Caleta Iguana (Casa Rosada) is one of the most looked after accommodation options in the island and the Galapagos. It has a long history and interesting facts. It was in this house where the famous music group "Iguana Men of Galapagos" used to write and practice their songs. This was their place for inspiration. Iguana Men was lead by Gringo Juan (John Vokes), who died in 2007.
At the outer part of the house we have built an Iguana Pit with many volcanic rocks to ensure a safe area where iguanas can breed, rest, drink water and enjoy the warm sun. You will see many guides with tourists coming by to take pictures of all the iguanas living here. There are now over 200 iguanas living here. You will be able to meet Tyson, one of the oldest and biggest iguanas around!
We also have many other animals visit us such as "Guapo" (handsome) which is a Galapagos Hawk which used to belong to Gringo Juan. From the hammocks, deck and rooms you will also be able to observe many of the amazing Galapagos wildlife such as sea lions, Blue Footed & Nazca Boobies, frigate birds, rays, turtles and more.
Caleta Iguana and Isabela are a must stop destination in the Galapagos!
Puerto Villamil is a small town where about 2,000 people live. It is completely safe and people are friendly and welcoming.

We rented the entire house with 15 family members. The listing was exceptionally misleading. The house is set up like a hostel and is infested with rats and other rodents. Rodent feces were found throughout the house and on two occasions we were startled out of bed by a rat in our room. In the kitchen there are plastic bags stuck into holes in the window screens, presumably to keep rodents out. The odor of rodent spray in some of the rooms was overbearing. None of the rooms lead directly to a common area and all but one share a bathroom, a fact not outlined in the VRBO listing. We were suppose to be picked up at the dock and no when showed up. When we arrived the house , the manager of the property did not have us listed in the book ( despite full payment) and he had to kick out a couple who was already staying there. It was clear the communication between the property owner and manager is poor at best. There is a public bar attached to the home. Nice setting but it invites random people who often think the house is free to roam about. You definitely need to lock your belongings in your room. I would definitely NOT recommend this place to anyone. Even though we had paid in full prior to our arrival we left early, choosing to stay elsewhere at our own expense because we were so uncomfortable at Caleta Iguana. Additionally, the owner chose not to respond to emails we sent after our stay. It wasn’t until we began contacting him on his cell phone that he began responding. And then promised a partial refund which he has to date failed to provide. He operates dishonestly and without concerns for those who are renting from him.Did you find this review helpful? I was under the impression that this rental was a house as have all others been on VRBO. In reality, this property is a run down hostel without hot water but with plenty of rodents in the kitchen. It is on the beach and has lots of marine iguanas hanging out, but there are also plenty of random people walking in and out of the kitchen/living room area. The manager of the property was also absent and actually had our arrival dates incorrect. For the money spent on this property, there are much nicer hostels available.Owner response: Hi Marcy, I read your review and have been very worried about your complains. First of all I want to sincerely appologize for any problems that may have arized as they are my fault. I had to leave the house with Junior in January and I have just recently discovered all the problems that have been happening. I was in Quito starting a new venture and was under the impression that everything was fine in Isabela. Clearly it was not. I am now in Isabela getting the house back into shape. And i truley appologize for the troubles you had. I would love to have you back here for a week with everything paid for anytime in the next year. I will make sure the house is perfect in every way. I really appologize and promise that the house will be back into shape this month. Thanks Marcy and hope that besides the setbacks you had a great time in the Galapagos. All the best. Felipe

This place is right by the beach in a very convenient part of town. Not only you can relax with a beautiful Galapagos natural scenery but you also get to enjoy wildlife right in your own backyard! There is an iguana pit outside the house where they come in the morning and stay all day bathing in the sun -absolutely amazing! The house has many amenities, but my favorite was the social area by the beach. There is good music at the end of the day if you like to watch the sunset with a drink in your hand! Also, if you like to surf there is a beach close-by with good waves. All in all this is the perfect spot to enjoy your holidays in Galapagos! :) http://www.tripadvisor.in/Hotel_Review-g1732554-d2105716-Reviews-Caleta_Iguana_Casa_Rosada-Puerto_Villamil_Isabela_Galapagos_Islands.htmlDid you find this review helpful? About the owner: Name: Felipe Teran Nationality: Ecuador I am 27 years old. I have been managing the house (Iguana Cove) since September 2010. I have been working in the tourism industry for over 4 years now. I got my bachelor of Tourism Management in Griffith University in Australia. Why the Owner Chose Isabela Island:
I will be renting and managing this property for the next +5 years (at least until September 2015). There is no place like this house / island in the world so decided to develop this property for a quality accommodation option in Galapagos.
The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
I live across Caleta Iguana in a small house and will always be available for suggestions, finding guides, bikes, tours or anything at all.
