This is a beautiful 1400 sq. ft. 3bd 2 bath house on a tree studded lot. The house has hardwood floors in the living room/dining room and bedrooms. Newly tiled floors in kitchen, bathrooms and mud room. This house is located in the quaint little town of Coffman Cove. Coffman Cove offers stream fishing for red, pink, silver, and chum salmon. Steelhead, dolly varden, and rainbow trout are also plentiful in the streams. King salmon can be caught in the cove May through July. Crabbing from rented skiffs produce an abundance of dungeness crab. Clam digging at low tide is also very rewarding.

Bear watching, cave exploring, whale watching, hiking, kayaking are some of the many things to experience in this area.

To get to Coffman Cove you can take a floatplane from the Ketchikan airport or take the Ferry to Hollis and drive on a paved road to Coffman Cove. The Ferry ride is a beautiful 3 hour trip where you can see the occasional Orca or Humpback whale from the boat.

We can arrange for a rental car, charter trip for Halibut and bottom fish or whale watching for additional charges.

This was my families first time to Alaska and this cabin was awesome. All the amentities from home, nothing missing. Excellent location from the dock 5 minutes by suburban or 20 minutes by foot. If you want to see bears this is the place. We saw plenty of bears on the river in broad daylight and even on the road. Tons of deer evrywhere you look so drive carefully at night, If you don't want crowds this is the place! They didn't lie when they said the only crowds you'll see are the are the crowds you bring. If you want to do a self guide which we did see Travis down at the bunkhouse. He can set you up with a boat and all the gear you'll need to catch Halibut and salmon. If I can do it anyone can. The saburban is great and it has a cooler which has plenty of room for your fish. We caught lots of salmon and a few Halibut, could have been more, but no one can control the weather. Can't wait until the next trip back to the Red Dawg Retreat! Thanks for the wonderful vacation!

This is the 2nd time I have stayed in this home, out of 5 visits to Coffman Cove and I wouldn't stay anywhere else. The house is immaculent, has everything you could need for your stay and plenty of room for 6 people. The dining room and living room are open and they make a great gathering area. The setting is beautiful with trees all around. You feel like you are out in the 'wilderness' but you are only 5 minutes from the boat dock. I would highly recommend this home to anyone going to Coffman Cove. If you haven't taken a trip to Alaska yet and you are looking for a great place to stay and fish, THIS IS IT!! Great people and all the halibut and salmon you could want. One more note, the owner now has a suburban available for rent with the home and that makes this an even better deal....no charge for the car on the ferry!

Owner response: Thank you for the great review. It means a lot to us when we have repeating clients. Our goal is to have all our guests enjoy themselves so much that they all will want to come again. Our place was set up so our guests could be comfortable and feel at home while there. By the addition of the suburban, we have eliminated a source of concern for our guests. In the future we hope to be able to add other amenities for your enjoyment. Sharon and Wayne

This was our fourth trip to PoW island and the most enjoyable. This was the first time we stayed in Coffman Cove and the location of the Red Dawg Retreat was perfect for our adventure. Having been to the island a number of times and knowing which streams and rivers we wanted to fish the Red Dawg Retreat provided for a very central location for our day trips. Prior to heading up, Wayne was very helpful in arranging not only a vehicle for our week-long stay, but also our charter trip out of Coffman Cove. The house is nicely furnished and extremely comfortable. The kitchen has all new appliances and is well stocked for cooking for your crew. The house has a very inviting feel, which makes it easy to relax after a day of hiking and fishing. Loved the little touches like the boot dryers, the ice chest, washer & dryer and the deep freeze. We will be back to Prince of Wales for another trip and will definitely stay here again. Thanks Wayne, Sharon and Dan for making this such a wonderful and enjoyable place to stay.

It makes us very happy to see others enjoy it as much as we do. We also appreciate our renters using the other local Coffman Cove businesses we suggested. From a group that has visited Prince of Wales Island many times, we value your opinion of Red Dawg Retreat and Coffman Cove. Thank you for your patronage. For your future vacations, we hope you will return and recommend us to your friends and family. Sharon and Wayne

This was my fourth trip to the island, and Red Dawg Lodge was by far the nicest place I have stayed. Everything in the house looks brand new, complete with everything one would need for a weeks stay. The Lodge is located Coffman Cove, a very cute little fishing town where I found everyone to be extremely nice, and fun to talk to. If you have ever thought about going to AK for some off the hook salmon fishing this is the place to go.....not ony is the river fishing amazing but the wildlife you will see is like that seen on National Geographic: Whales, Eagles, Bear, Deer.......Every time I come back from fishing the Prince I wonder how come I do not go every year, but now that I have found Red Dawg Lodge and enjoyed the people of Coffman I will effort even harder to be back up there on an annual basis. Thank You Dan for helping to set up an amazing trip.

Comfortable, airy, solid vacation home at a very good location, only a couple of miles from C.Cove's pier... Don't be fool by the rough exterior! has all the amenities needed to have a great time... Excellent distribuition if you bring kids/company. Has a map where all the "hot" fishing spots are and Wayne makes sure that you feel well cared for... We caught all the fish we wanted (salmon and halibut) and some crab too. We are certain that we'll come back and stay here again.

We look forward to your next visit and hope you will recommend Red Dawg Retreat to your family and friends. Thanks again, Sharon and Wayne

The cabin was wonderful! Our daughter said her bed was so comfortable she could stay in it all day except there was so much to do outside! It was nice to be able to cook (we had every pot and pan we needed), do laundry and relax and watch a movie or tv while we were inside. Everything was clean, organized and well maintained. Appliances were new and there was also a barbecue which we used to cook the days catch on. The property manager and the owner phoned to make sure we had everything we needed or if we had questions. The people of Coffman Cove were very friendly, we even "borrowed" a neighbor's dog for a walk one day. We celebrated the 4th of July with the entire town and they hosted a salmon, halibut and hamburger barbecue. There was also a fun run/walk, parade, kids games, greased pole and of course fireworks. Awesome fireworks! Our 2 teenage sons and 21 year old daughter enjoyed meeting people, fishing and exploring and then coming back to the cabin showering, relaxing in front of the tv and sleeping in comfortable beds. (Mom really loved it! Way better than tent or trailer camping!) We went stream, lake and ocean fishing. We spent one day on the ocean and caught our limit of halibut and salmon. It was a blast! Wayne recommended J & J Charters and John along with his son Tim were super fun, friendly and excellent guides. The cabin has crab pots provided so we also tried our luck crabbing. We caught quite a few, but no keepers. Hatchery Creek Falls was one of our favorite destinations. The salmon were spawning so they were trying to swim up the falls--hundreds of them and it was amazing to watch. The eagles were also watching intently to catch some of them. We saw deer along the way to the falls as well. The bears were missing, but that was ok with us. There were some extremely low tides while we were there so we also enjoyed exploring the tide pools. Eagle Creek was one of our favorite trout fishing spots. We visited the town of Craig and did a little shopping, but we found that the local store "The Riggin Shack" at Coffman Cove also had some great souvenirs, fishing tackle, band aids and all the other things that we had forgotten to bring or buy at a larger store. Roxie was friendly and knowlegeable too. There is also a liquor store and bar next door that is very clean and a good place to meet people. Our family had a wonderful time and we all hope to return to the Red Dawg Retreat. We highly recommend this for families!

Your description of Red Dawg Retreat, Coffman Cove, Prince of Wales Island and all the friendly people there is exactly what we expected to hear. Wayne and I feel exactly the same way. It is very gratifying to hear that our guests have a great time creating family memories that will last a life time. We hope the word gets out that Red Dawg Retreat has interesting adventures for everyone. Please think about us for future vacations and refer Red Dawg Retreat to your friends and neighbors. Hard to go wrong for the reasonable rates at this property. The property is well located and we were able to access a lot of different areas of the island easily. We found 2 places to eat at in town. We went in Mid June, and due to a local drought, the stream fishing was just ok. The salmon couldn't make it up the streams yet. We also took a short ride up the El Capitan Cave. Very interesting . The house itself, has pretty much everything you would need and was very comfortable. In between fishing, my grandsons appreciated the cable TV. We also appreciated the washer and dryer. A nice choice in a beautiful area. I hope to return sometime.

"WOW" This was the best fishing trip ever. We can't thank Sharon & Wayne enough for all there assistance in making this a wonderful experience for my son, brother in-law and myself. We had been to Alaska in the past and didn't need all the extra expense of a full service lodge. We flew in to Ketchikan and took a Float Plane for a quick 30 min. flight into Craig. and jumped right into the rental car. We hit the local store to pick up enough groceries for the week, the cabin was GREAT! it had everything and it all looked brand new. My son just loved the Map of the Island on the wall with all the fishing spots, we caught fish at everyone. Over the week that we were there, we caught over 200 Salmon (Pinks, Silver, Chum and even a few Red) It was incredible, The best 7 days of fishing we have ever experienced. We never even tried the Ocean but we saw some incredible Halibut & Kings coming off the dock, so many went 80lbs plus. On the way home we went through Hollis, left the car at the Ferry Terminal and took the 3hr cruise back to Ketchikan. I got so many great pictures of fish I will be telling stories for a long time or at least until we go back, NEXT YEAR. Thanks again for a great affordable trip, Ron Baca
