Colosseo Foro Romano (Coliseum & Roman Forum) apartment description
Italy Perfect Winner of Trip Advisor-FlipKey's Award of Excellence 2011, 2012, 2013. Travel & Leisure Magazine Italy All-Star 2013.
4 Night Minimum Booking Period.
Enjoy a rare terraced apartment in the Monti village within Rome. This ancient neighborhood neighborhood near the Coliseum contrasts with the modern design and amenities of the Novello apartment.
The Monti district is loaded with Roman character. It isn't as well known as other areas, yet it is right in the center of the Eternal City with many of the famous sights within walking distance. It is characteristically Roman, one of the most ancient neighborhoods in the city. Wonderful restaurants abound. The Coliseum, the Roman Forum are just a few minutes by foot.
Built in the 1800s, the building opens on Via Leonina about at the corner of Via dell'Angeletto. The immediate neighborhood is in the limited traffic zone, so mostly pedestrian traffic. The public areas have just been renovated with painting and decorative elements. The apartment is on the 4th floor, no elevator, 50 steps. You'll be well rewarded when you reach the apartment however and you can work off some of the pasta and gelato you are likely to enjoy during your time in Rome.
A terrace is a must-have for many of our guests and the Novello apartment fits the bill. The terrace is large and is a most enjoyable feature of this bright apartment. Decorative ironwork frames the view and urns. A ceramic-topped table an wrought iron chairs welcome you to enjoy the Roman skies at any time of day. The washing machine is in an enclosed area on the terrace.
The apartment as a very pleasant feel, bright, open and up-to-date. The living room has large windows onto the terrace that can be shaded with heavy drapes. It has a large sofa that converts to a double-sized sofa bed. The television has a European DVD player. The television has no broadcast reception so good for playing DVDs only. There is a library of English-language DVDs. There is also a dining table for four so you can prepare meals at home if you prefer.
Air conditioning is located in two places in the apartment, living room and bedroom to ensure your comfort. Wifi is complimentary.
The kitchen is open to the hallway to the living room on one side and to the bedroom on the other. It has a two burner gas stovetop, microwave oven and under-counter refrigerator. Mind the awkwardly placed step from the hall into the kitchen.
The kitchen opens onto the bedroom and bathroom. There is a door from the kitchen to the living room.
The bedroom is a comfortable size. The bed is 140 cm x 200 cm (55' x 79'). There are bedside lamps and shelves. Closets on the side away from the window that overlooks an internal courtyard. The bedroom has a desk and then separated by a sliding door, a small study could be perfect for a privacy to work from Rome. The study has large windows that overlook a quiet internal courtyard.

Fantastic location for a trip to Rome
The Novello apartment is in the fashionable Monti neighborhood, which is a fantastic location for a trip to Rome. The short walk to the Colosseum, Palatine Hill, and Forum allowed us to soak in those magical places multiple times. The apartment is right down the block from the Cavour metro station, making use of public transit very easy. The neighborhood is fun and comfortable, with great restaurants and pedestrian life. I cannot think of a better location to stay in Rome. Italy Perfect was extremely helpful and professional throughout the booking and pre-travel process. If you are arriving early in the day and want to shower and unpack before the evening, you will need to factor in the cost of checking in the night before. Italy Perfect makes this clear once you start the booking process, but it is good to know as you are reviewing apartment options from the very start. We truly appreciated the wonderful recommendation for a private car from the Fiumicino airport, which made our arrival easy and relaxed. Consuelo, our greeter, was very helpful and professional, setting the tone for a special stay. The apartment is on the top floor of a charming building, with a terrific patio. The apartment is remarkably quiet given the hustle and bustle below, and we could not hear any other units within the building. The bedroom is completely open to the kitchenette, but the living room has a door and can be used without disturbing anyone who is asleep. The apartment was very chilly in November, but there is an effective albeit bulky space heater. The bathroom is cramped by U.S. standards, but the living room is comfortable with good sitting options.

Beautiful and enchanting flat
The Novello is such a beautiful and enchanting flat. Perfect location within walking distance of the Coliseum and forum. Not to mention the wonderful restaurants and gelato shops all within a few steps. The best part of this flat is the terrace. Being able to go out at night and enjoy a glass of wine on the terrace and listen to the street music was amazing. The location of this flat is close to the metro station which is nice if you want to travel to other parts of the city without having to walk everywhere. As far as recommendations for restaurants and gelato shops I would recommend Trattoria 19 and Il Gelatone. The 19 is a colorful restaurant which is a 5 minute walk from the flat. They have a great menu and the most friendly staff. The prices are very affordable as well. We ate here 3 times during our stay in Rome. After dinner I would recommend stopping by Il Gelatone for the best gelato we had in Italy. They had the largest selection and are very affordable. I would definitely recommend the Novello to a friend.

A refuge in the heart of RomeGuest comment entered by owner
A refuge in the heart of Rome
A well appointed apartment for two was the perfect refuge just a stones throw from Ancient Rome and in the middle of dynamic Monti. Being just down the street from the Metro, just a stop from Termini train station made this apartment perfectly located with less tourist hustle as other areas. The area was safe and friendly and close to everything we needed, yet designed to be very quiet. Given the layout of the kitchen being in the bedroom I would say this is really most suited for a couple or perhaps a family with children. Once you get over that you see its perfectly set up. The Terrace is a wonderful feature to be outside yet have privacy.

We had a great holiday & recommend Novello highly
We quite enjoyed our stay here for five days in late September, 2013. The apartment was clean and well-appointed, and having the benefit of the terrace was worth the climb up the steps, although I'm sure glad there wasn't one more flight ! The only criticism of the place would be in the kitchen area where the lighting is dim, and a small freezer whose motor is well beyond the best-before date. I looked for a way to disconnect it, but couldn't find anything obvious. I would suggest that for those who have no need for a freezer, you could request it be turned off. We wanted a place near the Metro, and this is even closer than Google Earth would have you believe. I was really surprised at the reasonable proximity of everything - the Colosseum is 2 or 3 blocks away, walking to or from the Vatican is not a great distance, at most 2 km if that. The neighbourhood has lots of pedestrian traffic, but it's not noisy. Our only problem arose in trying to phone our greeter, as per Italy Perfect stressed instruction. Luckily, the apartment had been vacant the day before our arrival, and before leaving we had arranged to get in at 1:00 PM. Wasted a lot of time at the airport, and Termini station trying to phone, only to get a recorded message that my sketchy Italian interpreted as the call could not be completed. By the time we actually got to the apartment building we were an hour late and literally on the street. I was able to convince a young man, for a small fee, to try the number again but the same result. However, he had a second phone, and bingo! Consuelo, our greeter was committed at another appointment for a few hours so we wandered down the street and had a few refreshments at the Irish pub while we waited. Moral of the story: landlines at the airport and train station are unlikely to connect with a cell phone. Cell phone to cell phone might be tricky. My advice: get yourself to the Irish pub and relax, then start the tedious process of trying to phone. So, despite minor glitches, we had a great holiday and would recommend Novelo highly.

Enjoyed our Stay!
Our stay at the Novello apartment was just what we had hoped for. We felt that the price was good for the great location and nice terrace. Could not have been better located. Lisa from Italy Perfect and greeter were very good to work with. This is a good, basic apartment at a very good price. We almost hope others don't catch on since it's a good deal for the price. Thank you!

Not Quite Perfect

This apartment is in a great location and is big enough for two or three but is a bit misrepresented in the photos. The lock on the front door broke keys for more than one resident in the building. Some plants on the terrace were dead, kitchen utensils were missing, some of the furniture was a little worn out, lighting was inadequate, the kitchen faucet was in need of repair and there is no dishwasher. Early in our stay the electric company decided to shut off power to the entire block. Some animals were living in the walls and keeping us up at night (pigeons according to the owner). Lucky for us the construction noises in the building frightened the varmints away. On the positive side the air conditioning was a lifesaver on 97 degree days. Wonderful gelato is only 50 feet away and great pizza is right next door. Overall compared to local hotels and B&B's we give Novello a 7 out of 10.

Owner response: Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased that you enjoyed the great location, powerful air conditioner which is very welcome during August, the excellent pizza downstairs and wonderful gelato nearby. This is a modestly furnished, well priced apartment with a large terrace in a very desirable area of Rome, which we feel is accurately presented in the photos. We are very sorry though that everything wasn't perfect for you and that some inconvenient, but normal aspects of living in a moderate vacation rental apartment, replaced your enjoyment that you wrote about in the email you sent during your stay to tell us, "We are truly enjoying the Novello apartment and all it has to offer. The location is really most extraordinary!" We are sorry a cutting board and bread knife were missing, thank you for purchasing replacements and for letting us know about the one burned out light bulb. We got back to you the same day you informed us. The owner reimbursed you the expense for the knife and cutting board when she came to replace the light bulb the very next day. That power was out for a few hours to the entire block is not a reflection on the apartment, this can happen anywhere in the world. Thank you for letting us know a few of the plants on the terrace are in need of replacing, this can happen in August when temperatures soar, and about the kitchen faucet, we will make sure to take care of that. We’ll bring the front door lock issue to the notice of the condomiunium if the other residents haven’t already, happy to hear that it didn't impact your stay. You did ask about the noise from the pigeons during your stay which we explained is a common situation in Rome. Neighbors renovating apartments, whether its in the same building or adjoining buildings, happens throughout Italy since buildings are old and in constant need of repair. Fortunately, it is limited to normal working hours when most tourists are out enjoying the sites of Rome.

Located in a wonderful area
We could not have selected a better apartment and location for our holiday. The Apartment was spacious and well maintained and is located in a wonderful area. Fantastic pizza, pasta, pasteries and gelato are all on your doorstep - maybe too convenient! You are within walking distance of some of the most wonderful attractions in Rome. Booking ahead for our airport transfer and the Roma Pass provided for a carefree holiday. Pat and her staff took great care of us before and during our holiday and helped make it one we will not forget.

Enjoyed our mini-break to bella Roma immensely! Were delighted to be among the first Italy Perfect guests to stay in the Novello apartment. The apartment was just as described. Monti area was an absolute delight. Weather was cool, as expected in winter, but a few days were warm enough to sit out for a bit and enjoy the terrace. Hope to return again very soon but worried that others are going to discover what a great deal Novello is and it will become too booked up! Thanks as well for your excellent tips, restaurant guide and so much other helpful information.

We fell in love with the location.
We spent a terrific week in Rome at the Novello apartment. We fell in love with the location. So enjoyed exploring the fascinating Monti neighborhood. Picked a different restaurant every night and were never disappointed. The apartment is so bright and cheerful. The greeter was prompt and very courteous. We felt it was an excellent value. The steps were a little daunting at first but you can't beat this apartment for price and location! We will definitely refer you to our friends.
