Sunset Beach is the southernmost barrier island in NC with wide sand beaches protected by rows of dramatic dunes. It is a most relaxing, family oriented beach, with only a few low rise retail outlets, but close to the many amenities of Myrtle Beach. Just off the island there are also many restaurants, shops and other recreational outlets, as well as several world class golf courses. Just a short walk down the beach, Bird Island, a national wildlife preserve, consists of a two mile strand of uninhabited beach(except for the many species of birds, deer, goats and turtles) to make your walk or bike ride even more enjoyable.

Once again we have enjoyed a one month stay at 'Sheer Delight' and had a great time. The owner continues to make changes to the property which make the stay feel that much more like home. Very accomodating and available to answer any quries at any time. We have alrrady reserved for April 2014 and everything being equal are looking ahead to the stay. This is the third time we have rented this home and would highly recommend it to anyone wishing to stay at beautiful and quiet Sunset Beach.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.

I spent a week with my family (parents and teenage boys) at Sheer Delight in July and we had a wonderful time. I have comments to share on both the house and Sunset Beach. First on the house - It was a great house for six people - the beds are a little softer than my ideal (but I do sleep on a VERY hard bed) but the mattresses are nice - no lumps or sags and they don't move every time you roll over. We all remarked that we slept very well every night. The location is very quiet - you might hear people talking now and then but no street noise, no loud music - just very peaceful. The bedrooms in the house are on the smaller side but are perfectly adequate - each with a nice size closet and dresser so plenty of storage for your stuff. The family room/kitchen area are really really nice areas. We were able to all sit together comfortably and watch a movie or eat dinner without tripping over each other. It was nice to have a space large enough to accomodate everyone. We also enjoyed the screened porch in the morning and evening. There is a nice fan on the porch so you could also sit in the afternoon. The hot and cold shower outside was perfect. We were able to get the boys to actually wash the sand off before coming in and so avoided having sand all over inside. The laundry room was nice and had lots of space for storage of any "beach stuff" you might want to just leave sitting outside. The best part of this house, in my opinion, is the kitchen. I have stayed in lots of beach houses and this one has by far the best stocked kitchen of any. There was every appliance or kitchen tool that I could have dreamed of needing. There is also a bountiful supply of dishes for both eating and serving. It was so nice to get through cooking a meal and have everything available! This was my first trip to Sunset beach - I have always gone to other barrier islands in NC. We all loved the beach and island. I love the fact that there are lots of families and activity. We rented bikes and every morning rode the length of the beach on the sand when the tide was out. Great fun to work your way up into the wind and then practically coast the whole way back. There are always people and families out walking or biking or just playing on the beach or around the houses. Proximity to Calabash is excellent (if you like that...) The island is very small and relaxing - I could not think of a better vacation!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We have just spent 5 weeks at 'Sheer Delight' and it met our every need. My wife and I were alone for 4 weeks and our grandsons came for a week near the end of April. The accomodations were great for the four of us providing plenty of room and privacy for the boys when they wanted to be alone. It was particularily great to get up in the morning and sit out on the screened in porch to read the paper and drink that first coffee of the day. The house is very well equipt with everything needed right there. The information provided on VRBO is accurate, the owner is very accessible and is readily available to address anything which may arise. Sunset Beach is the place to go for your vacation, a beautiful uncrowded beach, suitable for a great walk from the house to the end of the beach at the rock jetty or a bicycle ride, whichever suits your mood that day. There are many tremendous golf courses within a 15 minute ride and downtown Myrtle Beach not too far away if you want to take in some entertainment. All the restaurants you want can be reached within a 10 minute ride to Calabash, with a few even closer right on the mainland at Sunset Beach. This is our 4th year at Sunset Beach and while we were not proponents of the 'Bridge' it does make the trip to the mainland easier and it seems to have become acceptable. Everything being equal we will certainly return to 'Sheer Delight' next year, once we are able to finalize our plans for the year.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Great house, great location, perfect for a group on a budget--younger renters beware. The house itself and the location were perfect. However, it quickly became apparent that the owner did not care to have us in the house we had paid for. Two unannounced visits and two calls in the first few days (after the younger renters arrived) led us to realize that we were under unusual surveillance. In the second visit, he informed us that a "neighbor" had reported us as hosting more people than that house could hold. This was untrue, and also highly suspicious given that all the houses on our street were uninhabited. The overall sense was that we were being watched on our own vacation, simply because of our ages. It's clear the owner is overprotective of a property he chooses to rent out. Also, given the circumstances, it can only be inferred that he is particularly uncomfortable with younger renters.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 4/6

This house was just perfect for our family's recent visit to Sunset. The floorplan in the kitchen and living room space is open, conducive to family gathering and spending time together. We really enjoyed relaxing in the hammock under the house after returning from the beach. The screened-in porch was wonderful, just a great place to sit and enjoy a cool breeze while rocking in one of the porch rocking chairs, so peaceful! The floor to ceiling windows in the kitchen made the whole house bright and sunny. We had a great family vacation and really enjoyed our stay at "Sheer Delight!" -Steve & Beth B. and familyRecommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

This is a beautiful home that is well maintained and only a minute walk to the beach. The home is extremely clean and on a very quiet street. The large windows bring in lots of light, and the screened in porch is very comfortable. Plenty of parking is available, and the open kitchen/dining area/living room is very spacious. The value is excellent, making this one of the best homes to rent on Sunset Beach. If you are looking to rent on Sunset Beach, this is the home for you!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

About the owner: Our family has been enjoying Sunset Beach for 25 plus years. So much so that when we retired, we moved here and live just off the Island, so we are close by should you need anything during your stay. Because we are now living in Sunset Beach, we have decided to self manage our rental property after years of renting through Property Management companies, which allows us to offer a rental rate far below what is common.
